SUSTAINABILITY FOR THE CASTOR INDUSTRY
Main Observations :
➢ Average productivity in model farms has increased
substantially, thanks to SEA intervention in last 5
years.
➢ Each model farm connected with 50/100 castor farmers
in surrounding area.
➢ Over the last 5 years, it is seen that initiation of Model
Farm Project in any district has had the rippling effect
of even non-project farmers subsequently adopting the
best practices of the project thereby enhancing their
productivity and overall production of castorseed in the
country.
SUSTAINABILITY FOR THE CASTOR INDUSTRY
Reason for increase in productivity :
by SEA
➢ Overall productivity increased, thanks to
a) Good Agronomics Practices
b) Quality Seeds
c) Spacing between two plants (6’X6’ or 7’X7’)
d) Increase in Nos. of picks
e) Increase in number of branches & pods
f) Continuous guidance and supervision
experts, Co-ordinators.
SUSTAINABILITY FOR THE CASTOR INDUSTRY
Plan for 2021-22 (6th Year) :
➢ Next year, we plan to have 600 model farms and about
250 farms under water harvesting. Total expenditure
estimated at INR 80.0 lakh (US$ 115,000)
➢We Solicite the support from all Stakeholders
SUSTAINABILITY FOR THE CASTOR INDUSTRY
This year along with the yield improvement
project, undertook water haravesting project
on a 50:50 basis, where the participating
farmer bears half the cost.
