Sussex area residents who wanted afarmer's market in their area now haveone every Sunday.
The first farmer's market in the villagewas held May 17 and will be held everySunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at ArmoryPark, W239 N5664 Maple Ave.,through Oct. 25.
Linda Saladin, president of the mar-ket, said the market came about after thevillage of Sussex asked residents on aFacebook page if they were interested in
having a farmer's market for the village."We received about 900 responsesto the positive," Saladin said. In response, the village asked those interested in amarket to create committees to help cre-ate the market. There were three commit-tees formed which included work on marketing, financesand seeking applicants to participate in the market.
Saladin hoped the organizers had hoped to get 15 to20 vendors for the Sussex Farmer's Market for the firstyear, and now have 26 vendors on a weekly basis.
Saladin said vendors come from southeast Wisconsinand have to create the products themselves, as opposedto resale.
"Everything has to be made by the vendors' organi-zations," Saladin said.
Saladin said Armory Park was chosen as the locationbecause it had the greatest availability during the sum-
mer. In addition, there is ample parking and space for the
market.Saladin said a broad time frame was chosen to mar-
ket to allow for the option of having pumpkin and squashavailable during the fall months of the market.
"In the beginning it was a little slow because we did-n't have vegetables or anything. We have many artisansin addition to produce vendors and we have a hot foodvendor. We just wanted a real mix of people, partly tocover the early part of the season when we wouldn't haveas many vegetables and then later in the season some of the (vegetables) goes away but brings in more squash,"Saladin said. "We just wanted to cover the whole farmingtime frame."

ASK THE ADVISORASK THE ADVISORWhat Should You Know About Establishing a Trust?
You don’t have to be a CEO or multimillionaire to benefit from a trust. In fact,
many people gain advantages from establishing one — so it may be useful to learnsomething about this common estate-planning tool. Why would you want a trust? For one thing, if you have highly specific wishes on
how and when you want your estate to be distributed among your heirs, then a trustcould be appropriate. Also, you might be interested in setting up a trust if you’d liketo avoid the sometimes time-consuming, usually expensive and always public processof probate. Some types of trusts may also help protect your estate from lawsuits andcreditors. Currently, only a small percentage of Americans will be subject to estatetaxes, but estate tax laws are often in flux, so things may be different in the future —and a properly designed trust could help minimize these taxes.
If you decide that a trust might be right for you, you should work with an experi-enced estate-planning attorney. Trusts can be highly effective estate-planning vehi-cles, but they can also be complex and varied — so you’ll want to make sure youunderstand what’s involved.
One important decision will be to choose a trustee. The trustee is legally bound tomanage the trust’s assets in the best interests of your beneficiaries, so your choice of trustee is extremely important. Your first impulse might be to select a family member, but before doing so, consider asking these questions:• Does he or she have the experience and knowledge to manage your financial affairscompetently?• When called upon to make a decision that may affect other family members, willyour prospective trustee act in a fair and unbiased manner?• Will naming a family member as trustee create a strain within the family?• Does your prospective trustee have enough time to manage your trust? Does he or
she even want this responsibility?• Do you have other family members who are willing to serve as trustee if your cho-sen trustee cannot do so?
This last question leads to another key aspect of establishing a trust — specifically, you can name a “co-trustee” to help manage the trust, and also a “successor trustee”who can take over if the person named initially fails or refuses to act in the capacityof trustee. Again, you will want to put considerable thought into whom you ask to takethese roles.
And you don’t have to stick with individuals, either – you can decide to ask a finan-cial institution to serve as trustee. By hiring such an institution, you will gain itsobjectivity and expertise, but you still need to ask many questions about costs, serv-ices provided, and so on.
Finally, as you develop your plans for a trust, consider communicating your wish-es and ideas to your family and anyone else who may be beneficiaries of your estate. When family members don’t know what to expect, disappointment and frustrationcan follow. If you know your loved ones are on board with your estate plans, you mayfeel even more comfortable in putting these plans in place.
This article was written by Edward Jones for use by your local Edward JonesFinancial Advisor. Edward Jones, it employees and financial advisors are not estate
planners and cannot provide tax or legal advice. You should consult your estate- planning attorney or qualified tax advisor regarding your situation.

"My sister Angela (Blair-Allen) suffers
from liver disease," Blair explained in aninterview with the Express News. "Shewas diagnosed with Hepatitis C in 2001and that is why I decided to get involvedin this cause.”
The walk is open to the public andboth individuals and teams are encour-aged to attend. The event allows peopleaffected by liver disease to come togetherand raise funds and awareness for the

“Unfortunately liver disease gets a badrap-‘You drank too much and ruined yourliver’-but there are over 100 types of liverdisease and an estimated 500,000 suf-ferers in Wisconsin alone. My sister is anurse and we believe she contractedHepatitis C after being pricked by a nee-dle. Events like this help educate the pub-

"The fact that I can still get out of bedand stand up is my main accomplish-ment," Mary said with a laugh.
As impressive as her spry 4'11"physique is, more awe-inspiring is Mary'spositive and humorous approach to life. Awidow for 22 years, she speaks animat-edly of her husband of 40-plus years,Norbert, whom she met at Marquette

close," she said. In fact, Mary's reday gift was a surprise trip to with both children and their spouall the grandkids, which Mary leaonly after she was cryptically toldmy Passport ready."
As she looks back on a life wMary said, "I don't believe I am aI am and all the events and thing

B Y NIKKI ACKERMANSTAFF WRITERThe Department of Natural Resources
urges all All-Terrain and Utility-Terrain vehi-cle riders to be safe this riding season, andone lesson stands above them all: helmetyour head.
Wearing a helmet is the single mostimportant thing one can do to ensure asafe and fun season, said DNRAdministrative Warden Gary Eddy in aphone interview with the Express News. With approximately 350,000 ATVs and
UTVs registered in Wisconsin, "we have alot of machines on the landscape and pre-cautions need to be taken," he said.
"Always protect yourself with the use of a helmet; it is highly important," he said."People have the misconception that if theyare riding at a low speed or if they are agood rider, they will be safe. But there area lot of unforeseen things out there--rocks,bumps in the road, things you can notaccount for. Each year, most of the state'sATV and UTV fatalities were not wearinghelmets."
With a record high of 27 deaths onthese machines last year, riders are encour-aged to follow these safety tips offered byEddy and the DNR:
• Take a training class: "If you are not
familiar with ATVs and UTVs, get yourself into a safety class," said Eddy. All ATV rid-ers at least age 12 (and UTV operators atleast age 16) and born after Jan. 1, 1988must complete a course prior to operatingan ATV or UTV. This course may be com-pleted either in a classroom or over theinternet. Visit the Wisconsin DNR websiteand search keyword "ATV Safety" to learnmore.
• Do not drink and ride: ATV trails canbe "rough, rocky, and unpredictable andthey require peak concentration and reflex-es," states information provided by theDNR. "Our recommendation is that riderspractice a 'zero alcohol' policy until they
are done riding their machine for tsaid the warden.
• Remember the pros weargear: Eddy says riders who want tstunts and driving techniques seencompetitions on television and inshould note these competitors andenced professional riders wear and other safety gear. "Sometimeasy to forget about the safety eqrequired on our public properties awhen riding on private propertsaid. "The helmets are the way
protect yourself so you can comand tell the great stories about rides."
• Check with parents: Eddyoung riders to always check in wparents or an adult before their rihave these adults check their helmapprove their travel routes.
• Limit your operation on roaand UTVs are not designed for sable operation on paved surfacEddy. "While some public roads afor ATV use, traditionally the mwere meant for trails. This has bebig concern because the vehicles wmeant to be on the road," he said
• Follow protocol: Slow doresponsible and expect to meet ot
ple on the trail. Stay on the right sidtrail.• Keep headlights on at all t
increased visibility. Bottom linfun, but be safe, said the warden.
"ATV-UTV riding in summer is tic season for all ages to get outsenjoy Wisconsin," Eddy said. "Twants all riders to be safe while the outdoors. One simple prevmeasure is to put on that helmet. are meant to do one thing and tsave lives."
