Pictorial Timeline or Storyboard

Make an illustrated timeline showing the important events of the story from the beginning of the book to the end. Each event on the timeline should have a picture and a 1-2 sentence caption explaining what the event is. Remember, timelines are always in chronological order!!! (15-20 main events should be described on your timeline.) You may choose to use paper, posterboard, PowerPoint, or any other creative medium you choose.

Movie Proposal

Imagine you are the author of the book you read. Suddenly, the book becomes a best-seller. Write a proposal for a movie producer, trying to get that person interested in making your book into a movie. Begin with a summary of your book. Explain in detail why the story, characters, and setting would make a good film. Suggest actors to play the parts of your characters. Suggest a location to film. Include ideas for costuming. Please include pictures of the actors you are suggesting, the location you would use, and costume suggestions. You may NOT choose this option if your book has already been made into a movie! You may write a letter to the producer or create a PowerPoint or Prezi as your presentation. Checklist for Completion:

The proposal begins with a summary of the book. Explanation of WHY the story, characters, and setting would make a good movie. Suggestions for actors are included for all MAIN characters (with photos and

Movie Poster

Imagine you are the author of the book you read. Suddenly, the book becomes a best-seller and a movie. Create a movie poster, advertising your book as a movie. Your poster must include several images, depicting the main characters, the setting, and the main conflict. It must include at least two movie reviews. Your poster must entice people into watching the movie (and wanting to read the book). Your movie must take up an ENTIRE piece of poster board and be colorful!! You must include a 1-page summary of the book on the back of the poster (glued/taped to the back). You may NOT choose this option if your book has already been made into a movie!Checklist for Completion:

Poem

Write a poem about the book, one character in it or some other aspect of the book. The poem must be at least 16 lines long, but does not have to rhyme. You may choose to do this in a variety of ways:

1. You may free-write a poem, consisting of your original words and thoughts.2. You may use quotes from throughout your book to create a poem that makes

sense and captures the essence of the book, a character, the theme, or some other aspect of the book.

3. You may write an A-Z poem about the book. Each line must be a complete sentence. The first line starts with a word beginning with the letter “A”; the second line begins with a word that starts with the letter “B”, etc.

This must be submitted on a small poster with at least 2 colorful illustrations. (May be typed or neatly written on the poster…)

Pro/Con List

Write a 2+ page of the pros (positives) and cons (negatives) of the book (AT LEAST 10 of EACH!!). Be sure to include an example from the book of each pro and con. You must include 2-3 sentences explaining WHY each is positive or negative. BE SPECIFIC!!! Do not just write, “Con: The characters were terrible.” You must justify why each item is positive and why each item is negative with specific examples from the text.Checklist for Completion:

The list is 2+ pages long (AT LEAST 10 of EACH!!!). The list contains BOTH positives AND negatives. Think about things such as the

author’s writing style, how the characters handled the conflicts in the book, the setting, etc.

Write A Review

Write a 1+ page review of your book for a newspaper or magazine. Model your review after actual book reviews (look up reviews on Amazon or Goodreads). Discuss and critique the plot, the characters, the ending (while not giving it away), use of literary devices (symbols, foreshadowing, dialect, irony, figurative language, etc.), other books by the author, overall opinion, etc. Your review should be 1-2 full pages in length.

Extra! Extra! Read All About It!Develop a front page for a newspaper based on your book. Create a newspaper title that makes sense with your book (include a date line). Make sure each article has a headline. Include pictures with captions. Summarize the plot in one article. Cover the antagonist (“bad guy”) in another article. Do a feature story on the protagonist (“good guy”) in the book. Make sure you create a short blurb on the weather. Include at least 3 ads that would be pertinent to the story. Collage

Create a collage, using magazine pictures, clipart, personal drawings, etc. on a large piece of paper (see me) that describes/represents your book. Your paper should be FULLY covered in pictures, with no paper showing. On the back, describe what each picture represents and how it relates to your book.

Scrapbook

Create a scrapbook of pictures/items that represent the major events in your book. Under each picture/item, write a brief (2-3 sentence) description of the event. This should be made from the point of view of ONE main character in your book. You must include AT LEAST 10 MAIN EVENTS from the book, and they must be in the scrapbook IN ORDER! You may choose to make the book in any way you choose. Remember, scrapbooks include mementos such as photos, stickers, souvenirs, postcards, etc. Checklist for Completion:

Create a playlist of songs that may play throughout the book if the book were made into a movie. You must include AT LEAST 15 SONGS on this playlist. Remember…The songs MUST BE APPROPRIATE!! Also, create an album cover for the soundtrack to your book’s movie.
