CENTERSTAGE DISCOVERY & YOUTH AGES 4–10These classes are fun, active introductions to creative drama for your child. Taught by theatre-education specialists, each class will include drama games, activities, and crafts based on a seasonal theme.

INTERMEDIATE ACTING AGES 9–14This is one of BCT’s most popular classes. In this class, open to all levels of young actors, students will explore acting and character through improvisation and ensemble work.

INTERMEDIATE MUSIC THEATRE AGES 9–14The BCT Academy is very pleased to run this popular class! Open to all levels of music theatre student. Students will work together on scenes and songs from the Broadway canon to hone their musical theatre performance skills.

ADVANCED ACTING WITH TOBY SCHINE

Experience the process of putting up a show from auditions, through rehearsal and on to performance. Perfect for students looking for a first production experi-ence or veteran students looking to further hone their craft!

What makes each actor unique? Exploring inner monologue, technique, and emotional truth, this class is open to all students interested in the craft of acting “from the inside out”.

INTERMEDIATE IMPROV FOR THE ACTOR AGES 9–14Through improv games and exercises students explore character development while learning how to make big choices, think quick on their feet and actively listen to their partners.

DISCOVERING THE ACTOR’S PROCESSDesigned for high school students interested in developing their craft as an actor. Through scenes and exercises students will begin to develop their own artistic voice learning to work from what makes them unique.

M E E T T H E C A S TKAI CLIFTON (LIONEL)is absolutely over the moon excited to make his Boston Children’s Theatre debut as the male lead, Lionel, in Fancy Nancy: The Musical! Other roles include the Scarecrow in The Wiz, the Dentist in Little Shop of Horrors, Daddy Warbucks in Annie, Conrad in Bye Bye Birdie, The Wizard in Wicked, Simba in The Lion King, and coming up in May, Joseph in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at the Saint Gregory’s Gym in Dorchester. Roles at Wheelock Family Theatre include the Bully in Pinocchio and the Reporter/Wally in The Trumpet of the Swan. He recently played Freddy (main character) in Blue Line Bowdoin, a show at Fort Point Theatre Channel. Kai thanks his Mom, Nana, sister, friends, family, teachers, and the cast and crew for their constant support!

TERESA GELSOMINI (MOM) is thrilled to be in her second show with Boston Children’s Theatre!! Her first experience with BCT was over the summer with the Studio Four Program, which was an amazing opportunity to take extensive classes in dance, acting, and music, as well as be part of a show. Other stage credits include Thoroughly Modern Millie (Boston Children’s Theatre), Chicago, The Addams Family, Little Shop of Horrors, Oliver Twist, The Tell-Tale Heart, Beauty and the Beast, and The Children’s Story (Tyngsborough Theater Program). She’d like to thank her family, friends, and teachers who always support her to achieve her ambitions in performing and life.

DYLAN KERR (STUDENT; UNDERSTUDY TO BREE) is a 15-year old from Gloucester, MA. She has been performing in musical theatre since she was 6, and this will be her 21st show. Favorite roles include: Peter Pan (Peter Pan), Cinderella (Cinderella), Portia (Cinderella), Judas (Godspell), Bombalurina (CATS), and Frenchy (Grease). She is an award-winning dancer and has been trained in jazz, tap, hip hop, ballet, contemporary, lyrical, and acro. She especially loves tap and jazz. Dylan is also a member of the Boston Children’s Theatre Senior Show Choir. She would like to thank the Fancy Nancy creative team for this wonderful experience, her friends and family, her voice teacher Austin Davy, and her parents for their constant love and support.

JESSIE LEWIS (BREE; UNDERSTUDY TO NANCY) is a 14 year old from Needham who attends the Cambridge School of Weston. She is excited to be involved with her second production with BCT. Some of her other past productions include Duffy in Annie at North Shore Music Theatre, Annie in Annie at Riverside Theatre, Ermengarde in A Little Princess at Fiddlehead Theatre, Amber in Hairspray at Needham Community Theatre, Becky Two Shoes in Urinetown at WDW, and Mayzie in Suessical with ACT. Jessie would like to thank her family and friends for all of their support and the cast and crew of Fancy Nancy for making this such a great experience!

HAVEN PEREIRA (WANDA), an 11 year old from Winthrop, MA, is excited to be back at BCT after performing in Pinkalicious last season. Most recently she played Belinda Cratchit in A Christmas Carol at North Shore Music Theatre, where she also played Young Fiona in Shrek & Keeley Gibson in Billy Elliot this past season as well. Other favorites: NSMT, Sound of Music (Marta); NextDoor Theater, Gypsy (Baby June); Stoneham Theatre, Miracle on 34th St (Emily). Haven is a dancer, gymnast, and animal lover who often sings the National Anthem for local events. Many thanks to all her teachers, BCT, and the Fancy Nancy cast and crew; Endless love to family!

BRYN SMITH (NANCY) from Hamilton, MA is super excited to return to the BCT stage as Nancy in Fancy Nancy the Musical. She is having so much fun in this role and hopes you enjoy the show! She performed this past fall as the Tin Soldier in BCT’s The Velveteen Rabbit. Some of Bryn’s past roles include Brigitta in North Shore Music Theatre’s Sound of Music, Cinderella in Marblehead Little Theatre’s Into the Woods Jr., and in Stage 284’s productions of Annie Jr. and The Sound of Music. Bryn has also performed in many musicals and plays at her school. She would like to thank the cast and crew for all their hard work and send love to her family.

DAVID SULLIVAN (STUDENT; UNDERSTUDY TO LIONEL), a sixth grader at the Advent School, is delighted (that’s fancy for happy) to be part of this amazing production! Previous credits include Steve Whitebottom in Duck & Cover (The Player’s Ring), Buddy Ricks in The Edge of Peace (Central Square Theater),

Randolph MacAfee in Bye Bye Birdie (The Footlight Club), Billy in Assassins (Harvard-Radcliffe Dramatic Club), Narrator in Where the Mountain Meets the Moon (Wheelock Family Theatre), and Tommy Mara in Miracle on 34th Street (Stoneham Theatre), among others. In addition, David has spent the last three summers as part of Boston Children’s Theatre’s Studio 3 playing roles of Ching Ho in Thoroughly Modern Millie Jr., Schlomo in Fame Jr., and Lewis in Pippin. David was recently featured in a television commercial for Lego and has filmed many other industrial commercials. Thanks to Toby and the entire cast of Fancy Nancy for a great experience!

CHARLOTTE UM (RHONDA), age 14, is thrilled to be making her BCT debut! She has been classically trained with Boston Ballet for over 12 years in ballet, pointe, modern, and character. She has also trained vocally with the Boston Children’s Chorus for the past 5 years. Credit highlights include Cinderella (Joy), Peter Pan (Tinkerbell, Dance Captain), Grease (Patty Simcox, Dance Captain), and Boston Ballet’s The Nutcracker (lamb, polli, flower girl). She has also performed in Spring Showcase at the John Hancock Building, MLK Memorial Concert at Jordan Hall, Nelson Mandela’s Memorial Service, and has sung for Mayor Menino, Mayor Marty Walsh, Governor Charlie Baker, and Governor Deval Patrick. Charlotte would like to thank Toby Schine for giving her such an amazing opportunity, the wonderfully talented cast, her two older sisters Noël and Adeline, and her parents for their endless love and support!

M E E T T H E S T A F FEMILY BEARCE (LIGHTING DESIGNER) is a New England based lighting designer. She has recently worked on Tuesdays with Morrie at Cherry Lane Theatre, The Housekeeper with Fresh Ink at Boston Playwrights’ Theatre, and will be working on Roxbury Rep’s Death of a Salesman. Emily has also assisted on The Seagull at the Huntington Theatre Company, and interned with Punchdrunk on The Drowned Man: A Hollywood Fable. www.ebearce.com

MICHAEL BLUNT (PROPS MASTER) Originally from Connecticut and a proud graduate of Salem State University Theater, this is his first time designing for the Boston Children’s Theatre and is happy to be working with them. Other Props credits include A Christmas Carol (Shakesperience Productions, Inc.), and Shakespeare/Marlowe (Shakesperience Productions, Inc.) Enjoy the show and don’t forget to be fancy!

CHRIS CHO (MUSIC DIRECTOR) is proud to be working with Boston Children’s Theatre again after the summer production of Thoroughly Modern Millie Jr. last year. He’s been working with many theatre companies and schools such as The Theater Offensive, Performing Arts Center of Metrowest, Second Stage Productions in New York, Wellesley Middle School, and Berklee College of Music. He’s currently working as a Music Score Editor at GP Productions, teaching a musical theatre class at Boston Children’s Theatre, orchestrating and arranging theatre, pop and film music for various companies.

KEVIN DUNN (MASTER ELECTRICIAN) is a freelance theatre artist living in the Boston area. They developed a love for theatre during their time in high school. They have been thrilled to be able to turn that into a career in theatre. Outside of their work with Boston Children’s Theatre they have been involved with Central Square Theatre, Boston Playwrights Theatre, and Stage 284. Outside of their theatre work they are also a musician primarily inspired by the folk traditions of Appalachia. They have had a wonderful time working on this production of Fancy Nancy and hope you enjoy the show!

COLLEEN EGAN (STAGE MANAGER) grew up in the Boston Area. She graduated from Adelphi University and then proceeded to start her career in New York. Credits include; Broadway: Tartuffe (Roundabout Theatre Company), Off-Broadway: In Real Life (Manhattan Theatre Club), Tours: Around the World in a Bad Mood, Ailey II, Workshops: Feeling Electric (later title: Next to Normal), Drift, Finding Nemo the Musical, Concerts: Bright Lights, Big City. Colleen has also worked on numerous concerts and recordings with Sh-K-Boom/Ghostlight Records and worked a variety of projects, shows, and events with The Walt Disney Company. She is excited to be back in the Boston area and working with such a talented cast and company!

JEZ INSALACO (COSTUME DESIGNER) is a Costume Designer studying Theatre Design/Technology at Emerson College. This is her second show with Boston Children’s Theatre. Other credits include co-costume Designer for Anne Frank, directed by Burgess Clark, O Beautiful, directed by Benny Sato Ambush, Cyclops, directed by James Blaszko, and Good Television, directed by David Miller. She had a blast with Fancy Nancy, and thanks the cast and crew for being wonderful!

ERIC LOVE (ASSISTANT DIRECTOR/CHOREOGRAPHER) is the Assistant Artistic Director and Director of Education for Northern Stage in White River Junction, Vermont. Eric Love and Toby Schine co-directed The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley for Boston Children’s Theatre last season. Favorite directing credits include Twelfth Night, Ariel’s Way, and Eurydice by Sarah Ruhl featuring aerial silks, live cello and a chorus of 9 masked female “stones.” Assistant directing credits at Northern Stage include A Christmas Carol and Mary Poppins. Most recently, Love directed Dartmouth professor Jamie Horton and Broadway actress Caitlin O’Connell in The Standby Lear for the New Works Now festival at Northern Stage. This summer Love will direct an epic production of School of Rock for Northern Stage’s new Summer Musical Theatre Intensive. ANAT MANO (SET DESIGNER) is a senior majoring in Theatre Studies at Wellesley College. This past year she stage managed, set designed, and wrote for an original one act play, Face Value, and was the Set Designer

for Wellesley College Upstage’s production of Matt and Ben. Fancy Nancy was designed under the guidance of her advisor and long time scenic designer for the BCT, Janie Howland, with whom she worked for Death of A Salesman at the Lyric Stage Company Boston and to whom she owes a great deal of gratitude. Anat would also like to extend a big thank you to Toby Schine for his infectious enthusiasm and welcoming her to the Boston Children’s Theatre, and to Rob Edmondson for his knowledge and tireless support.

TOBY SCHINE(EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR & PRODUCER)Since joining BCT in 2008, Toby has produced over 40 musicals and plays, including World Premieres of the critically acclaimed new work Reflections of a Rock Lobster and the musical Calvin’s Monster. Directing credits at BCT include Spring Awakening, RENT, Legally Blonde, and Sweeney Todd. Having established BCT’s college preparatory program, Toby has coached scores of students who have gone on to gain acceptance to the world’s top training programs, including the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, New York University, Carnegie Mellon University, The Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, and the University of Michigan. Toby also manages BCT’s extensive training programs for children ages 4 – 19 and oversees BCT’s Summer Studios and pre-professional acting seminars. Prior to joining BCT, Toby was Assistant Director of Education at North Shore Music Theatre (NSMT) in Beverly, MA. At NSMT, Toby was responsible for managing the theatre’s diverse programming for children, including the multi-

generational Horizons Program for children and senior citizens, and the collaborative Creating-A-Musical program with urban schools. Toby’s directing credits at NSMT included the premiere of Seussical, Jr. and A Christmas Carol, which he assistant directed with NSMT Artistic Director Jon Kimbell. With over 10 years experience in Arts Administration, Toby was instrumental in building the UNBOUND Program in Morrisville, VT. He has also worked extensively with the VT Rural Partnership, the VT Young Playwrights Festival, and the 21st Century Program to develop arts programming and opportunities for youth in Central VT. A graduate of Reed College, Toby also studied at the British American Dramatic Academy.

BURGESS CLARK (EXECUTIVE ARTISTIC DIRECTOR)A 30-year theatre professional, Burgess Clark was nominated in 1991 and again in 2005 as a “Distinguished Teacher in the Arts” by the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts for encouraging and supporting students with exceptional artistic achievement. Burgess has taught for the University of Hawaii and acted as Director of Theatre for The Mid-Pacific Institute. He also served as Director of Education for the Honolulu Theatre for Youth and was the Director of Theatre at the Perry-Mansfield School of the Arts in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. From 1988–94, Clark was the National Instructor for the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts/Office of Very Special Arts, working with special populations and those who educate them. Five of his students have won the National Young Playwrights’ Award. An accomplished writer, Burgess wrote for the Emmy-

nominated documentary series Part of the Family on PBS, hosted by Gary Burghoff. He was the recipient of the Beverly Hills Theatre Guild’s Julie Harris Award for his play, The Ivory Alphabet. Burgess was also honored at the 15th Annual William Inge Theatre Festival as the “New Voice in American Theatre.” He was awarded the Vermont Playwright’s Award for his drama, The Touch. A member of the Dramatists’ Guild, Burgess has won several other playwriting awards, including “Best Play” from the National Association of Dramatic and Speech Arts, the Mary Roberts Rinehart Award for playwriting and a Special Services Achievement Award from the U.S. Army for Purple Hearts. Purple Hearts was produced in San Francisco and toured to the Edinburgh Theatre Festival in Scotland where it placed among the “Best of Fest.” Burgess’s other works include Down Came the Rain, Relative Strangers, The Velveteen Rabbit,

Island of the Blue Dolphins, and an adaptation of Dylan Thomas’ A Child’s Christmas in Wales originally written for the National Theatre of the Deaf and since produced at Boston Playwright’s Theatre. Since 2008, Clark has served as the Executive Artistic Director of Boston Children’s Theatre, New England’s oldest theatre company, where he has directed such classics as To Kill A Mockingbird and The Diary of Anne Frank. At BCT, Burgess has penned original pieces including the musical

Calvin’s Monster and Reflections of a Rock Lobster—distinguishing BCT as the first children’s theatre in history to address the topics of bullying and the gay teen experience. For his pioneering efforts with Rock Lobster, Burgess was nominated for the 2012 Elliot Norton Award for BEST PLAY and BCT has been named BEST OF BOSTON 2012 and 2013 for family entertainment by Boston Magazine. Burgess divides his home between Boston and restoring an 18th-century farm in Walden, Vermont.
