Chez Jean, Montreal. I really

liked it because it was veru

much like a family house. They

organized big pasta meals at

nights, breakfast was self

service whenever we wanted

in the morning...

They also had lots of old but

cool stuff to lend for free, such

as winter sport equipments

(ice skates and sled...)

A youth hostel in Kyoto,

the most crappy and

probably out of safety

standards ever. Big

crowded tatami

dormrooms, incense to

kill mosquitos, very small

common rooms, holes in

the roof, electric cables

everywhere... no shower

and only 2 toilets.

But I can't say that I

disliked it, we finally

stayed a full week

because the

athmosphere and people

were great. And of

course it was the

cheapest YH of the city.

To replace the inexistant

showers, they offered us

free entrance to the

"public baths" with

jacuzzis and saunas.

sleep are not always the

Milan. The hostel was

big, but the employees

there weren't very nice.

girls were separated, so

location of the hostel was

also far from everything.

Plus, we needed

(obligatory) to buy the

member-card of the

hostel (Hostels HI), and

there was nothing about

that on the website.

deal with more shabby hostels

and didn't care too much about

sharing bedroom. Now it's a

must for me that they're clean

and look nice and I prefer to

get my own room. But I still

prefer hostels to hotels

because 1: it's cheaper and 2:

you get to meet new people.

A pro Palestinian hostel

next to the famous

Damascus gate of the

Old City. Their location is

great but it's sooo dirty.

I stayed there for three

weeks almost four year

ago, when I was 24, and

back then I loved it.

Because I met nice

people, it was cheap and

because of their location.

Now I would never stay

there. It's so shabby. And

when I was younger I

didn't mind to share

doorms with 12 other

people (men and women)

but now I prefer to stay

alone, and if I'm travelling

with my boyfriend a

private room is a must.

I liked very much a hostel in

Luxor, Egypt, which was

(Brasil): it was perfectly

located, the ambiance was

cool, it was really cheap and

there were a lot of activities

available to the customers

(from touristic tour to "hostel

clean, security was

impeccable, but there

were no ambiance

small guesthouse which was

just opening (I didn't know that)

but they had put soap,

shampoo and toothpaste in the

bathroom for people who

forgot. It was just from the

supermarket but I thought it

was a good idea. They were

also very friendly, I was late

arriving but I called and they

stayed up. After my stay I got a

text message saying they

hoped I had enjoyed my stay. It

was a very good experience.

I stayed in a hostel where

room so it was weird but
