11. Overall, what are your thoughts about the difficulty of the Park Pursuit?

Response Comments

1 We loved it. If you were not from the area, several clues (like the first) were a bit tough, even with google. The Hula challenge was great - able to catch our breath instead of immediately running.

2 I think it was GREAT this year. It was shorter and the mix of distances between challenges was GREAT. The clues were challenging at times but always fun!

3 Maybe I need to just get into better shape, but I thought it was very difficult!!!

4 I would have liked the distance between spots to be more consistent. Some were REALLY far, which was difficult, and some were so close that you could see them from your current spot.

5 Clues= too hard. Challenges=too easy.

6 It was better last year as far as the difficulty and amount of challenges, but the distance last year ended up being a bit too much.

7 The half court shot was alittle too crowded, chaotic...

8 Liked the mix of challenges- physical, mental, random :)

9 I would've liked to have seen more physical challenges

10 some clues were harder then others.

11 I thought the water if life clue was the hardest I think having just one more hard clue like that would have made it perfect

12 Good mix, would have liked maybe 2-3 more challenges or 1 more really tough clue like the Waiola park one.

13 Some clues were very difficult being out of town.

14 questions were difficult on some

15 it was fun!

16 The clues were tricky this year, but fun. We need to brush up on our sporting skills for next year. The basketball and frisbee toss took us a while!

17 I wish it was a little bit longer but I liked how the activities were a little more rec. based and not all athletics. I loved the dancing.

18 It was nice that there wasn't too much distance between clues. Park Pursuit in Elmhurst was really challenging in terms of distance, LaGrange was easier so it was more enjoyable

19 Length of the race seemed spot on compared to Winnetka (which seemed a bit long.) But, I would love to see some tougher challenges.

20 To make the challenges more difficult so teams have a change to catch another team if they are stumped on the challenge.

12. What was the MOST DIFFICULT part of the Park Pursuit?

Response Comments

1 Finding the recreation center/figuring out clue to get there. The basketball challenge was also the hardest to complete. We like the challenges where all team members were involved.

2 1/2 court shot was insane!! We took the penalty but 5 minutes was pretty long to wait!

3 All of the challenges were super fun. The half court shot was pretty hard though!! As well as the top spinning.

4 Clue was hard to figure out, did not really connect to the park itself

5 Getting to the Rec Center was difficult because the clue was hard to understand. With the course length (which is perfect), keep the clues easy for out-of-towners and make the challenges more fun. They were quite easy... We wanted to get dirty and have some fun...

6 If you don't have a smart phone with internet access, you really have no chance of figuring out the clues.

7 Getting our 4th team member to run was the hardest of all. We also had a hard time hitting our half court shot, but that's to be expected.

8 Need more challenges at each stop, instead of just handing out the next clue, challenges allow teams to catch up or extend their lead.

9 That darn half court shot :-)

10 We read to much into the clue.

11 I do not know any ZZ top songs by name which made the first very difficult for me. The next most difficult was a tie between Basketball Challenge and Frisbie Golf but both were very fun and I would do it again.

12 the tasks them selves were not too hard but getting to a few places was hard and took extra time

13 As the first group to stations 4-7, it seemed a little unfair that some of the stations weren't even setup by the time we got there. FLW was hiding behind a bush when we showed up. Waiola Park was sitting in their cars as we got there, and then had trouble teaching us how to do the dance. The LTHS clue wasn't at the right school. Also, talking with other groups, it seems like different groups had different rules at some of the stations.

14 Figuring out Waiola Park took us a while, and finding news about Elm Park took us a little longer than others too.

15 Loved the minute to win it competitions..this is a real equalizer, just as in the past with the oreos. Did not like the Huki Lau...we were made to wait for our turn..then it got backed up so the instructors split off and teams caught up.

16 For out team, this challenge took the longest to learn all of the steps. But was definitely fun!

17 We couldnt figure out the clue:( We realized afterward that it wasn't that difficult, we just didn't

18 The hardest part was figuring out that the first location was the Rec Center and figuring the location of Waiola park. We really struggled with figuring out what location to even try to find. We did research the city some but it is hard to guess what they are going to ask. Overall it was a fun event!

19 Question # 5 was very hard to figure out.

20 The discription made up think there was some kind of Tiki lounge, so went back to downtown just to find out that we were definitely in the wrong place and had to head back to Wiola Park.

21 Finding that place was hard for our team. Great clue! I think this caused a lot of separation.

22 Clue for Waiola Park

23 It took us a long time to compete the Frisbee Golf challenge. We also had trouble figuering out the park was Waiola Park. Learning the Huki Lau dance was alot of fun!!

SurveyMethods.com Page 12

Page 13: Survey: 7th Annual Park Pursuit - May 2, 2013, La Grange ... annual park pursuit_2013... · Survey: 7th Annual Park Pursuit - May 2, 2013, La Grange Report: ... 11 I do not know any

24 I think a lot of groups got stuck on this clue. It took us a while to figure out, but once we got it we had a "doh" moment.

25 It was neat how NuToys was tied into it this year. Everyone loves spinning tops.

26 The Lua was a little biased, the ladies teaching the dance didn't seem to find it a race, and kept us there for a long time and kept showing us this dance and forgetting parts of it too, and then the groups after us didn't have to stay at that location as long. Kind of a biased challenge in length of time there. They should have shown us the dance once, and then we should have had the opportunity to try it.

27 Our group got lost looking for the recreation center - we're not from the suburbs so we didn't understand the clue for that one and we got really turned around. We felt like you'd have to be a local to get it - no luck Googling on our phones or anything. After that, though, it was an AWESOME race and we can't wait to do it again next year!

28 The Huki Lau challenge itself was not difficult, but deciphering the clue was challenging for our team.

29 Great mix of challenges. Each person on my team had a challenge where they excelled making it fun for everyone.

30 I would like to have seen more challenges that involved the entire team.

13. What was your FAVORITE PART of the Park Pursuit?

Response Comments

1 The top spinning was fun and challenging because it was outdoors but I also LOVED the first challenge with the songs all in aplha-order! CLEVER!

2 Basketball Challenge and the Huki Lau were fun.

3 Also having the finish at a bar, not a park facility.

4 Thought using the community was awesome.

5 I really liked them all pretty much the same

6 All of them. It was really fun!

7 Also liked minute to win it challenge.

8 We were close to the end, we were one of the last teams to finish and when we got to the Methodist Church, they didn't have us do the Challenge. They just gave us the clue to go to Auerilios Pizza. We were bummed that we didn't get to do the challenge. I understand it was close to 1pm at this time but the challenges were fun to do.

9 This challenge was super fun. We had hands and tops flying everywhere!

10 I think the teachers wanted us to practice a bit more but we were in a hurry to win. It was a lot of fun though.

11 Some groups didn't have one person make each shot like it stated you had to. We would have done the same and had our best athlete make every shot if it wasn't required, but followed the rules.

12 Top spinning was a challenge and maybe should require less tops to be spun with being outside in the wind, but it was fun

13 This was a fun challenge because it required everyone on the team to play a role. I would also rate the Train Station/Memory Color as a close second, because I thought it was clever to plant them around the course and many teams simply did not take notice.

Response Response Text

1 Relay races or maybe splitting up the teams and having each member go to a different location to find the next clue.

2 I don't have specific ideas, but I felt like some of them went way too quickly. I liked when they had the potential to take more time, because I felt like that created distance between teams and gave others a chance to catch up. Some were too short, especially at the end, and with those locations being so close together, I felt like the end was really rushed and didn't allow for adequate competition. You knew where to go next because you could see the next location or follow other teams.

3 more team interaction where groups have to work together to succeed a goal, less i-phones!

4 More active games.

5 More team oriented activities where all parties are working together for 1 challenge vs the indiv. team activites like basketball.

6 Something involving mud, something involving strategy... if you're going to make the course length long then make it worth while.

7 Ropes course, obstacle course, a few light physical challenges mixed in throughout the course.

8 More entire team based challenges. The basketball was good, and so was the math puzzle and the top spinning. But the frisbee would have been better had it been a par 4, requiring all team members to participate. Did not like the minute-to-win-it where it was basically just one person participating. Also, I think it is more fun when the challenges are more physical. Last year had some great ones with the sand castle, the water balloon launch, zombie gauntlet, water filling chair, etc...

9 Need a challenge at every stop to teams to catch up to leaders, extend a lead, etc...

10 I like that there were alot of Parks outside that we got to do challenges at; not too much inside.

11 Some type of challenge at each clue location...no locations with only a clue drop. Possibly start groups at different clues to avoid a cluster of people moving from location to location.

12 Miss the food challenge!!

13 Baggo Challenge, perform a short obstacle course, enjoyed throwing cards into a watermellon from previous, clothes pins into a milk jug,

14 i like the race being in a suburban downtown area. the one at the Lincoln Park Zoo was great. this was my 3rd PP but i hadnt done the last several. Could you do 12 stations/check ins?

15 Nothing like the hula dance. I'm fine dressing like an idiot and dancing, but don't make me have to "learn" the routine from people who don't know it themselves, and then don't have us be subjectively judged. This is a race! Time counts! Everything should be objective based- do you meet the objective or not?

16 Maybe more clues that lead to team building. Like things the make you do on a ropes course, example getting your team from one side of the park to the other and everyone has to be on a plank of wood at all times.

17 More minute to win it all four on team must complete task (basketball and frisbee challenge) that brought our team together Three legged races

18 send people to different places so not everyone is following eachother.

19 If it is a park pursuit... shouldn't it be related to the different parks in the area? This way it is easier to figure out the clues to the questions.

20 Maybe included with the clues there could be a picture of the destination but cut up in envelopes and then you have to put it together to see where you are headed next.

21 50 yard dash, 1 mile run, pull-ups, flexed arm hang (physical fitness tests) swim, tread water, CPR quiz, CPR demonstration, more minute it to win it challenges, puzzles, play game spoons, blackjack, 5 minute boot camp class,

22 Keep it a mix of physical and mental challenges

23 Another Minute to Win it challenge. Some sort of golf, chipping challenge. Could we ever do a water challenge? Like the paddle boats in downtown Naperville.

24 Some type of relay activity

25 I love the show Amazing Race, and I think there's tons of great challenges from the show that could be easily modified to fit Parks Pursuit. Team building activities are also great choices and can be easily modified to fit the race too. I enjoy a good balance between physical and mental challenges mixed throughout.

26 Less throwing (I suck at sports)

27 I would like to see challenges at all stops instead of Clue Drops.

28 Some kind of eating challenge.

29 I like the Minute to Win It challenges. It's good to have a combination of brain teasers and physical challenges.

30 I think there should be a challenge at every stop.

Response Response Text

1 Wheaton, Naperville, New Lenox

2 Arlington Hts has a nice downtown but parks are spread out

3 Grayslake, Chicago

4 A town/city with a forest preserve element to it.

5 I like locations with historic areas and great little downtowns like La Grange. Please keep it in areas like that.

6 Oak Park (not sure if you've already been there or not), Chicago PD (lakefront area?), Schaumburg, college towns?

7 enjoyed la grange, prefer areas that have a "town" feel, easier to navigate through.

8 Elk Grove Park Distict - we have several parks, 5 seperate facilites within a 5 mile radius (2 recreation centers, 2 water parks, Pirates Cove), municipalities, schools and Busse Woods (Forest Preserve) within the 5 mile radius. We also have several good size places to eat following the event. Flat terrain, not alot of unincorporated and safe crossings when going from "place to place". We are located right off Hwy 53 (easy to get to)!! We have done this every year; we would love to host!!

9 Tinley Park Arlington Heights

10 Elk Grove

11 Naperville

12 South Suburbs,

13 St. Charles, Downers Grove, Itasca, Naperville, Joliet

14 Des Plaines, DeKalb, Glencoe, Glenview

15 Downtown Naperville, Downtown Wheaton, Brookfield Zoo,

16 Definitely suburban, keep it out of Chicago. Morton Grove? Skokie?

17 Des plaines park district, good history there or Joliet park district

18 Downtown Downers Grove Wheaton Naperville

19 I think each year a different town should be picked so everyone gets to know the surrounding areas parks.

20 This was my first time doing Park Pursuits, maybe Chicago or Naperville?

21 Glen Ellyn, Downers Grove, St Charles, Lombard. A downtown area is essential to make this event work.

22 Des Plaines, Joliet, Wheaton, Arlington Heights, Naperville, Carol Stream

23 Downers Grove, Naperville, Tinley Park

24 Naperville Downers Grove

25 Skokie!

26 Lakefront or downtown with a architectural or cultural theme

27 I would love to see a location that could incorporate some forest preserve or wooded terrain.

28 I would like to see the event back in the city.

29 Chicago!

30 Mt. Prospect

31 Send teams in different directions (reverse) More than 4 players per team

32 This course was better than previous years because the distances were shorter between each challenge. It's more fun to participate in challenges than run/walk long distances between them. The team loses momentum if we have too long to travel.

16. How satisfied were you with the final location of Aurellios?

Response Comments

1 I didn't like the set up...everyone just sat at booths with their teams. There was no opportunity for networking. I feel like an open standing room would be more beneficial. It was too cramped.

2 Was a tight fit. Food went really fast.

3 Pizza was LEGIT!

4 The pizza was delicious. The seating was a little cramped.

5 Perfect spot.

6 Initially there was not enough pizza. Maybe too many people finished at the same time? Either way, we had to wait too long to eat. Eventually we did get enough, but it was not prepared quickly enough.

7 Seemed like we could have used abit more room for us all.

8 wish there was more pizza, ran through it pretty quick

9 Not enough seating

10 Lots of room.

11 Very good, best since Arena in Elmhurst

12 by the time we got there no seating and pizza was cold.

13 Wish it had more outdoor seating- pizza was good though.

14 Was very difficult to get a seat as one of the last few teams to finish and the pizza was cold.

15 It was a little crowded for how many people were there.

16 YUM! :)

17 want healthier option

18 This is our 2nd time participating and both times the final location did not have enough seating for everyone. Some people had to sit outside, but if the weather was bad there would have been more people standing inside Aurellios. It would be nice to find a place that has seating for all the teams. We've been walking for 3 hrs and look forward to resting at the end.

19 This was a much better location than last year, and the pizza was delicious!

20 The food was delicious.

21 It was rather small and they couldn't keep up with the pizzas but it was delicious food. Thanks!

22 This was a huge upgrade from the final location of last year's race in Winnetka.

23 The pizza buffet was great... they could have used more staff. The bartender was very slow.

24 Great food and beer. Next time, have more than one bartender!

25 Great food and beer. Next time, have more than one bartender!

26 Except there was nowhere to sit and ran out of pizza.

27 By the time we were finished...there was no where to sit and there was only salad left and by the time we realized they put more out other had already finished it. So we left and went some where else to eat and get something to drink.

3 Great pizza!

4 K.I.S.S.!!

5 they had a hard time keeping up with us. the pizza and salad was gone as soon as it was out.

6 great pizza

7 by the time we made it back to eat... there wasn't much left to eat.

8 healthier option

9 Could have kept up with bringing more pizzas out better, but it was all very good.

10 Thanks for having lots of salad!

11 Food was good.

1 Dry Fit next year????

2 Very Colorful

3 Very sweet

4 With as popular as bright colors are now i would have expected a neon color that stands out!

5 They turned out great however something bright like Aqua Blue or Tangerine Orange would be fun!

6 didn't like color-too dark. Otherwise they were fine,.

7 Great shirts!! Love the logo.

8 It would be nice to go to moisture wick shirts some year. I am much more likely to wear them again.

9 Loved the two colors on the maroon - nice!

10 Ugly color

11 Color and design can be better. More clean cut look.

13 I liked the new logo. It would be fun to change it up slightly each year based on the location and theme. I'm sure you could get the C&M section involved to help design if needed.

Response Comments

1 However, we had to leave before all teams arrived and missed out on this part.

2 Depends on how much more but most likely within reason.

3 No more than $30-40, though.

4 I don't feel like the prizes matter...I don't think that's the draw for people to participate.

5 Our park district pays the fees, so I feel my prize is getting out of the office to do park pursuit.

6 It doesn't matter to me about the giveaways. As long as there is food I am happy. I am more concerned with the quality of the game itself than the prizes.

7 We have to put this in our budget anyways for our directors; as it gets more popular, there are more teams. you may need more prizes now.

8 I thought the program was fun.

9 Sure our district pays for our team, so why not...

10 Depends on how much more.

11 seemed like you had a nice amount of gieaways, $25 is a great price for what you get.

12 Not in it for the free swag, to me this is a teambuilding activity for me & my coworkers. My agency sent 3 teams this year and we'd love to send more- but if the cost increases, we may not be able to do that.

13 Yes, but I dont think you need them.

14 What does $100 pay for other than food? We thought it was alot since you have volunteers. Have each participating district donate a prize for the raffle in addition to the fee (round of golf, gift basket, etc..)

15 Price is good as is.

16 It's about as expensive as we can afford

17 iPad seemed a bit much for one person to win for a team event.

18 If more people could win prizes.

19 The Park District paid our way, so I am not sure if they would be or not.

1 Thanks for an awesome event! We had a great time and look forward to more - or hosting one in our area!

2 I will have to make sure I am in shape next year! It was hard for me to run the long distances. Plus, our team accidentally skipped a clue, and so we had to go all the way back to the other location- and then go back to where we were. But overall, I think I would Park Pursuit as "challenging but fun".

3 We appreciate the hard work you put into it. If the park pursuit is similar next year (too-difficult clues & easy challenges) we probably won't participate in 2015.

4 It was alot of fun since the weather was great. Now that I have been through it once, I would do it again.

5 Last year was better in regard to format, amount and style of challenges and distance between locations.Had we not left physically sore from the hills & distance it would have been outstanding. This year was still fun but was too short and basically too easy. Too many locations were visible from previous spots.Challenges were either exclusive of members or too easy.It was also better last year how groups were not all following the same clues.More difficult/challenging is good, just not by length.

6 Great job!

7 I love the Park Pursuit! Already looking forward to next year. I think a good mixture between the difficulty of last year and the ease of this year would be perfect for next year.

8 I thought this was a great location, been a participant for the last four years and they seems to get better every year. Keep up the GREAT JOB!

9 Loved it....The weather cooperated and the staff was great.

10 i didnt know we were supposed to bring our own waterbottle to refill and I did not have anything to drink until we spun the tops. since you are walking and jogging most of the course a few more snack/water stops would be great. especially if it was warmer or hot out. thanks it was a great day and i love the idea. i havent done it since the lincoln park one and i am glad i did it again.

11 If you setup at a school, ask them first if it's OK to be there ;) Have a hotline to call if you get lost. Every time you call, you get a XX minute penalty.

12 Great job it was a ton of fun

13 You all did a great job planning and executing this event.

14 Overall it was a great event. There was obviously a lot of planning and hard work put into the event. We enjoyed it!

15 We skipped a location and had no way of knowing. Teams should have to check in and say where they came from so they know they are in the right place.

16 Thank you for organizing this -- it was a blast.

17 Based on this race alone. I think many teams mine included "followed" other teams. It would add 2-3 different routes as it makes it harder for teams to follow others.

18 My coworkers and I love this event. It is great for team building and we have so much fun. Thanks for all your hard work!

19 The final clue at the restaurant should be based on who completes a task first, not who arrives first. This is for consistency because every other area was based on who completed the challenge in order to move on.

20 Thank you. It was a nice break from the office.

21 Thought LaGrange was a great location to have it! Saw a lot of the town, that I have never even been to before, and the downtown area was a nice place to begin and end. I liked some of the history we learned about the town as we did the challenges and clues. The length of the course was a good length, wasn't too excrutiating, last year's seemed to be a lot longer! It was also a good idea to END near the BEGINNING! :)

22 We LOVED this race - can't wait to come back next year!

23 This was my 3rd year in a row participating in Parks Pursuit and I have enjoyed each one. I hope it continues!

24 Have two sets of challenge cards so teams are less likely to follow each other around the course. Great event this year - The location and layout of the course were excellent.

25 I think it would be fun to have different groups take different routes. There were a couple times we were able to see the next location by following people there.

26 The day got kind of long. I would like more challenges a little closer together.

27 It was so much fun, wish it was more than only once a year! It is a great team building event!

28 The only upsetting thing was, we were told that your group had to be together in order to do a challenge and was not the case at a couple of the stations. They were allowing only 2 team members to complete the task to get the next clue card. We never seen the other players ever show up before they were off to the next location. Why have the rule if its not going to be followed.
