Wet Pour Safety Surfacing

From time to time children will accidentally fall from the safest of equipment.

The purpose of Safety Surfacing is to cushion the impact of falls and reduce severity of injury. To meet the requirements of BS EN 1176 and BS EN 1177, impact absorbing surfaces must be installed beneath all equipment with a critical fall height of more than 600mm – unless it is under 1m and is installed on good quality grass (or similar).

Where the existing surface is tarmac or concrete, safety surfacing should be installed beneath play equipment irrespective of critical fall height.

CONTINOUS WET POUR SAFETY SURFACE IS ONE EXCELLENT ANSWER

Wet-pour safety surface is mixed on site and poured into place by our dedicated team. Completely porous and is composed of rubber granules mixed with polyurethane binder to give a strong, firm chemical bond.

The base layer (impact absorbing layer) is composed of thick, chunky rubber granules, while the top layer of EPDM is screeded and hand rolled to provide a tough wearing course. It can be laid on top of existing Bitmac or concrete areas providing that they are porous and well draining. In new construction, the wet-pour, is laid directly on top of a MOT type 1 stone base, without the need for an expensive layer of Bitmac or concrete. The ease of application and range of colours means that safety surfaces can be laid to suit specific and individual designs as and when required, giving increased play value and creating a virtually seamless coloured areas of stunning visual impact.

FEATURES & BENEFITS

Flame Retardant Safagrass Safagrass is designed to extinguish flames within 60 seconds.

Fire Retardant grass mats were the first flame retardant mats to be developed for playground safety surfaces. These improve playground vandalism as it reduces the flame spread in the event of a fire. These mats are similar to our standard Safagrass mats but produced in a different polymer with fire retardant properties. Tested to EN ISO 11925-2 and EN ISO 9279-1 the mats comply with standard horizontal and vertical burn tests required when building regulations are to be met. Beware of Unsuitable Standard Tests Report issue by RYNAT: Health and Safety Consultancy

• N.B. Please check the suitability of this product prior to installation as the CFH figure will be affectedby soil type, moisture and grass.

Playtiles

Top Quality Product - Rigorous manufacturing standards and special moulding processes, ensures a top quality product that is consistent in density and size. 5 years Warranty

Top Quality Materials - Manufactured using best quality raw materials from UK ISO registered manufacturers. Rubber being a milled, seived and graded Styrene Butadiene Rubber (Black) in reclaimed truck/lorry tyre shred form, bound using a 10% ratio of moisture curing Polyurethane Pre-Polymer. All Playtiles are pressure moulded using the same shred material throughout.

Dimensional Stability - Moulded with a shrinkage allowance so measure over 1 m.sq. Also available in 500mm x 500mm. All Playtiles are moulded to a ± 1mm thickness tolerance.

Diverse Applications - Other uses include paving, golf courses, stables, roofing protection, dry ski slopes and ice skating rinks, patios, walkways, changing rooms, climbing walls and factory floors.

Versatile Applications - Unlike sand, gravel, bark and other loose materials, Playtiles are accessible to wheelchair users and children in buggies. Disabled children can play with their friends instead of watching from the sidelines. Worth remembering for your special applications.

Construction - Pressure moulded using a 1 part mix, the top surface on all tiles is identical, with a smooth top surface with a 5mm x 45° chamfer around the perimeter and are visually divided into four using a 'V' chamfer across the centre - commonly known as a cruciform.

There are two types of rubber Playtiles:

Standard SBR Rubber Playtiles: made from recycled truck tyres. They are naturally black in colour but can be dyed during manufacture to either green or terracotta red. This dye however, is not U.V. stable and will fade or darken in time. These tiles will also release a black carbon over time, which could be transferred on to shoes and clothing and are not suitable for areas where young children are crawling.

EPDM Topped Rubber Playtiles: have a 12mm thick topping of EPDM rubber. EPDM is not a recycled product, is more U.V. stable and does not release carbon black. More expensive than SBR Playtiles, they are ideal when appearance is more important as they are brighter with a more permanent colour.

Unlike standard Playtiles, the EPDM range does not wear blacker in time on heavily used areas as each tile is made from virgin through-coloured granules providing a more permanent colour.

The underside of Playtiles

Playtiles are available in 1m² size and in 14 various thicknesses. Playtiles are fully tested to EN1177 and BS7188 and all comply or exceed their criteria.

Critical Fall Heights Playtile have achieved are:

Tile Thickness (mm) 25 30 35 40 45 50 55 60 70 75 80 90 105Critical Fall Height (m) 0.8 0.9 1.1 1.3 1.4 1.8 2.0 2.2 2.6 2.8 2.7 2.8 3.2

Compliment your Playtiles with our wide range of insert pictures, numbers, letters and signs - educational play!

Character, number and letter inserts can be moulded into the surfaces of Playtiles. These are cut from brightly coloured EPDM sheets and pressure moulded into the Playtile during the manufacturing process.

Inserts are made from maintenance-free EPDM sheet rubber. They are permanent and will not affect the Playtiles critical fall height.

Inserts are available as:

Green Blue Light Grey Terracotta Red Yellow

Safety Tiles will not prevent accidents, but help reduce the risk of serious injury in the event of a fall.

All Playtiles over 45mm thick have a unique design feature in a large round hollow cone foot formation, which gives greater strength, durability and improves the critical fall height. This foot formation has been tried and tested throughout the world and is often specified. It should not be mistaken for the old failed 'egg box' design. - Playtile samples have also been independently fatigue tested and have been subjected to a 20,000 cycle bombardment of a 50kg mass with no signs of failure.

Playtiles have many advantages over wet pour surfaces, they provide a consistent factory guaranteed thickness over the entire area, will not crumble or crack, are easy to repair, hard wearing, do not need time for drying or setting, relatively easy to install, vandal resistant if installed correctly and are accurate to check for costing purposes. They can also be stored as a ready made package and if replaced are pleasing to the eye and are not obvious. As the Playtiles carry Factory guarantee, there are no discrepancies unlike the common wet pour problem where the rubber manufacturer blames the binder manufacturer and vice-versa and then both blame the installer, resulting in no action.

Playtiles should never be laid when still warm as shrinkage may still occur.

Rubber compounds are not guaranteed against staining. It is possible that a carbon black release may occur as the tiles age during hot spells. The problem can be overcome by using a transparent surface coating. All coloured Playtiles will darken in time due to UV exposure.

All Playtiles have been fully tested by The Independent Centre for Sports Technology in accordance with European Standard EN1177 and British Standards BS7188:1989 AND BS5696 Part 3:1979 'Methods of Testing Impact Absorbing Playground Surfaces' and all comply or exeed its criteria.
