Finding Surface Area To find surface are you must first find the
area of each section of the object. For this lesson we are going to use a
cereal box Formula: Length X Width
http://www.mathplayground.com/area_perimeter.html This site will provide you with fun practice

Surface Area of a Real Life Object
You can use any cereal box. To find the surface area of a cereal box. They may be different sizes but you can still find the surface area.

Safety FirstSafely cut the cereal box on The edges of the box

Have a Good EyeUse a ruler on the lines of the box to find the length and width of each section of the box. You can do this in any appropriate form of measurement (feet, inches centimeters, etc…). For the cereal box I thought that inches was most appropriate.

Time For Some MathNext multiply the length and width of each section of the cut cereal box. Then put that number in a line and add each section together. After you add them together you will get the total surface area of your cereal box.
