India:

It is a country full of contrast. A beautiful country with great history and background as many of you aware of it. It is also known as a country of mystism. The second most populated country in the world with the highest poor in the world as well according to the WB report.

ThereThere is an unthinkably vast difference between urban and rural India. Of the total population 68% of the people live in rural India. Regarding wealth sharing, 1% of the population controls 58% of national wealth, while 54% control the rest of national wealth. India has the highest number of poor in this world – 266 million live with less than $ 1 per day. This is rural and slum India. However, the living standard is the urban is unthinkably high. If possible, I recommend you to watch a movie “Slumdog Millionaire”. This gives better idea of how India’s slums are. IndiaIndia’s claim of economic growth did not reach the rural India much. While you can survive easily in a rural village with € 250-300 per year, the same amount is barely enough to survive in an Indian city for a month. Andhra Pradesh:

AndhraAndhra Pradesh is the newest state that was bifurcated from the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh, located on the south-eastern coast of India, which was divided into Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in 2014. It is one of the five southern states. The new state has a population 49.67 million as per the National Census 2011. AP’s new capital city Amaravathi, located near Vijayawada, is estimated to be completed by 2020 – 2025. Until then, Hyderabad remains the de jure capital for both states.

AndhraAndhra Pradesh has two better known regions as Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema. Vishakhapatnam, located on the Bay of Bengal and Vijayawada, located on the river Krishna, are the two most important cities in this state. Vishakhapatnam has a wonderful beach and ahome for the southern wing of Indian Navy and its forces.

Andhra Pradesh has the second richest temple in this world after the Vatican. It is a temple dedicated to Hindu deity Vishnu located on the hills of Tirumala in Tirupathi. It is visited by bil-lions of people every year. The other tourist places are Vishakhapatnam, Arakku Valley (a naturally formed hill cave, tribes, and the landscape etc), Kurnool, and Vijayawada.

Vijayawada:

Vijayawada is a wonderful city and a peace-loving city. It is the administrative capital for KrishnaKrishna district. It is located on river Krishna and has a population of just over 1million as per 2011 census. However, there are 250,000 migrated construction workers alone in the city as on 2015. The city has a reservoir built on the river primarily for agriculture and drinking water. When the water level is below, it is primarily used for drinking purpose. There are three canals runs through the city reaching villages and other smaller cities in the neighbouring districts.

The name, Vijayawada, has many interesting toponomy, most of them related to religions. Vijay-awada has two important religious places – Our Lady of Lourdes – a Catholic shrine locally known as Gunadala Matha and the other is Durga – A Hindu deity temple. Both are located on hilltops of different hills. The city has almost all religious faith you find in India, including those which are very rare in other places. Vijayawada is known as business and educational centre of Andhra Pradesh.

Vijayawada is one of the metros in the country where you get free Wi-Fi at selected places such as Railway station, Bus station, heavy markets roads etc.

Vijayawada is known for its heavy traffic both by roads and railways. Vijayawada is the gateway to the rest of the southern states and is well connected by National Highways running through this city. National Highway 16, a part of Asian Highway 45 and Golden Quadrilateral is a major highway that passes through the city and connects Kolkata and Chennai.[56] While, other highways such as, National Highway 65 links the city with Pune–Machilipatnam route and NationalNational Highway 221 with Jagdalpur of Chhattisgarh. Inner Ring Road connects both NH 16 and 65 and serves the main purpose of easing city traffic congestion. The Bus station is the fourth largest and busiest in the country along with Delhi, Chennai and Hyderabad.

Vijayawada railway station is the third busiest handling 320 trains per day, being the central point connection down south and north Indian cities. Vijayawada airport is connected to almost all the cities in India.

Mosquitos are plenty in Vijayawada. Though, you have a well secured room, you will still finda few mosquitos to give you company in the nights. We will provide you a good naturalayurvedic lotion. However, those who want to have their own, please.

Since your stay will be in October, it is the season for the northeast monsoon sliding in. How¬ever, it remains hot and humid most of the days. You find a kind of ‘stickiness’ in the weatherbecause of its closeness to coastal areas. This also possible to have cyclones sometimes be¬tween early October to December. So, come prepared for a cool/ hot or rainy season. As ofnow, the weather forecast for Oct in Vijayawada is 32° - 34° C mostly sunny and possible thun¬derstorm.

The day time temperature right now is 34° C, but feels like 42° C during the day.In all purpose, the nights will be cooler and days will be hot. Cotton clothes are always wel¬come.

Clothings /1Avoid half-trousers when you are on the streets or market places or during field visits.Nobody is going to ask you about your choice of clothing in the rooms.

Regarding personal items, I strongly recommend buying here. You can avoid added weight toyour luggage. You find almost every international brand in Vijayawada, and perhaps with lessprice as well. If you want, you bring your towels, soaps/shampoo etc. But, please do remem¬ber, we will provide you all these things when you are with us in Vijayawada. However, anypersonal medications, please bring with you because, we may not get same brand. And also, don’t forget to bring your doctor’s description with you. You may not get immigration clear¬ance without docto’s descriptions, if you are carrying medicines which maybe prohibited inIndia.

Please remember: Though people smoke public places here in India, however it remains stat¬utorily prohibited smoking in public places. I request you to avoid in public places.

****The Strong recommendation - India is religiously sensitive. If you want to enter intoany Hindu Temple, make sure, you are permitted. In India, people consider every foreigner as‘Christian’, and Christians are not permitted in some temples in some places in India.

Next important recommendation to keep in mind is - use of left hand. It is considered in India,as highly disrespect to touch a person or an item especially any religious items with your lefthand. It is taken as an offensive. Same way, if the any of your toes (of your legs)/feet happen totouch anyone accidently, even if the other person is very small and younger, don’t hesitate tooffer ‘sorry’. You will be on the safer side.

I am only giving you some cautions, so that you are aware of the cultural constrains you mightface in some places.

It is a wonderful country. People go out of their way to help you if you ask for any support. Asyou walk on the road, people might stare at you. Please don’t get offended. This is a way, weIndians try to recognize someone new in our midst. Most of the people you might meet on theroad, will smile at you. A welcome smile from us!!!

Health insurance

Make sure, you have a health insurance with air-lifting possibility

Risk management/1

There would be someone to be with you from my team, or you can go out into the city on yourown. The city is by and large peaceful. The roads are well protected round the clock.
