INNOVATIVE FLOW ASSURANCE SOLUTIONS ENGINEERED TO MAXIMIZE TRANSPORTATION AND PRODUCTION PERFORMANCE

PRECOMMISSIONING

Planning for your production assets to deliver maximum throughput starts at the construction stage. Water used in hydrostatic testing may be left in the system for extensive durations, making the pipeline vulnerable to either oxygen-influenced or microbially influenced corrosion.

To control the rate of bacterial growth in the hydrotest water, and also to control corrosion, the water needs to be treated with chemicals. Moreover, the eventual disposal or discharge

of the water is one of the primary considerations when choosing the most optimum protection chemistry. SureTHRU hydrotest products offer the flexibility to choose between a standalone treatment or a combination of treatments that may include any or all of the following:

» Oxygen scavenger » Corrosion inhibitor » Biocide » Dye

These chemical additives are available in either a liquid or a solid form, and offer effective mitigation of oxygen corrosion and adverse microbial activity, thus eliminating any potential integrity and operability challenges. The dye is used to assist in the detection of leaks. Proper drying of the pipeline following a hydrotest is critical. Using glycol-based products for this operation is common industry practice. The SureTHRU product family includes the supply of monoethylene glycol (MEG) at a 100% strength or in 50/50 or 25/75 ratios with water.

OVERVIEW

SureTHRU™ flow assurance chemicals are designed to maximize flow efficiencies for production assets, optimize operating costs, and enhance throughput while reducing the risk of blockage or failure. There are several challenges in establishing and maintaining efficient hydrocarbon production, especially across long distances, with changing environmental profiles and increasingly deeper fields. Corrosion, scale, asphaltenes, wax, hydrates and emulsions are some of the most commonly encountered flow assurance problems. The Halliburton SureTHRU family of chemicals leverages our operational experience to help assure optimum throughput across the lifetime of your transportation and production systems.

MAINTENANCE

Deposit buildups in production systems can reduce the effective flow area or cause a blockage. Deposition is a day-to-day challenge faced by the hydrocarbon transportation and production industry. Paraffin, asphaltene, scale and hydrates are some of the most readily identified concerns. Corrosion

products, emulsions and flocculants can also adversely affect the flow of hydrocarbons.

Drawing on over 35 years of operational experience in pipeline flow remediation, SureTHRU technology offers a broad range of proprietary and specialized chemicals that include:

» Paraffin and asphaltene solvents specifically designed for the removal of problematic paraffin wax and viscous organics from the production system; this category of remediation products also has chemistry that helps prevent the re-deposistion of paraffin and asphaltenes

» Scale removal products that offer effective dissolution of scales, using either traditional acid-based treatment or advanced non-acid solutions

» Surfactants and dispersants for efficient de-oiling, breakdown of emulsions, foamed cleaning solutions or desludging of stubborn hydrocarbon deposits

Cleaning of blocked systems is often very costly, time consuming and technically challenging. Production must be interrupted, and may sometimes require a complete shutdown for remediation cleaning.

Using techniques such as batch inhibition not only prevents internal corrosion, but also helps keep debris buildup in check. SureTHRU batch inhibition chemistry is specially formulated to have excellent film persistency properties to protect the pipe surfaces between treatments. Our team of specialists can help to design the most optimum treatment plan to prevent the need for expensive remediation options.

DECOMMISSIONING

This stage of the asset life comes with its own set of challenges, with the most critical challenge often being financial. Achieving the required cleanliness levels that meet environmental and regulatory standards in a cost-effective manner is key. In some cases, change of service or temporary mothballing may be more effective than complete decommissioning and abandonment. To help meet environmental and regulatory requirements, SureTHRU technology offers products to achieve these targets in the most optimum way possible. These products can

improve the speed of the cleanup process due to their ability to provide excellent dispersibility and surface tension reduction.

This SureTHRU family of chemicals used for temporary abandonment, mothballing and preservation is compatible with most potable and surface water – offering effective protection and, thus, eliminating potential integrity and operational challenges when the system is returned to service.
