Ruskin Education was commissioned via COBIS to support an independent school in investigating a possible expansion into Overseas Development and Branding. Ruskin Education identified that the College had issues of falling enrolments in the past, poor leadership, a poor marketing strategy and average results by over the last five years. We acknowledged together with the College the various areas of development, prior to considering what was next, strategically. Like all conservative independent schools in the UK, it was challenged to move from the traditional transactional model of leadership and management to that of an agile and transformational business model with a CEO, with both academic and business accountability structures, a focus on meeting its market, developing its income, investing wisely and ensuring its long term financial viability. The process of this investigation over two weeks included an introduction and briefing, an audit, a Visit tour, discussion and interviews, along with supporting research, report writing and feedback. The College was advised to consider taking in their investigation of a potential international business partner, via a solicitor and accountant familiar with school purchases and overseas contracts. Ruskin Education provided a comprehensive report to the happy clients that included a thorough analysis of the situation, prospects and brand advantages, along with recommendations, priorities and strategic implications, country research, international education models, overseas branding, due diligence, standards and inspection, marketplace analysis. Ruskin also provided a new school set up process and various current investment opportunities, allowing the College to plan carefully for its financial future. The College now has a much clearer understanding of the issues it needs to deal with in order to prepare for international expansion. There is a clear roadmap and recommendations which have helped focus the school management on the next steps of their journey to go international.
