The Foundation for El Paso Community College (EPCC) is focused on promoting student success and degree completion. One way we can raise funds for our EPCC students is by selling the artwork that has generously been donated by the citizens of El Paso, artists, and Chase Bank. Some pieces were painted by local artists and are available for purchase. You are welcome to stop by and take a look at our inventory. We have plenty to choose from. The Foundation accepts EPCC Payroll deduction to Purchase Artwork, over 3-6 month payments.

Student Technology Services (STS), established in 2003, is a program based on student employment of the El Paso Community College instructional area. STS’s main purpose is to equip employees with skills such as decision making, budget management, and to provide customer services to faculty and students of the college. In order for this to be reached, STS employees are trained and placed in a department where they can not only gain experience but also grow in an area that will help them in their future career. This is a great way to earn while you learn. Eligibility Requirements Enrolled at EPCC with at least 6 credit hours Minimum 3.0 GPA Efficient Computer Skills Efficient Communication Skills 20 hours of community service per semester To Apply you need Letter of interest Resume Current Academic Detailed Schedule Unofficial copy of transcript Submit online at: www.epcc.edu/sts 9050 Viscount Blvd, El Paso, TX 79925 Administrative Service Center– Room A601 Phone (915) 831-6406

STS Interview

Debbie Aguilera, Manager Student Technology Services What partnerships does STS have? “We have the partnership with EPISD (El Paso Independent School District). We have a partnership with KCOS, a partnership with USO and also a partnership with METI, and METI is for

our students that after they graduate they can work with METI.” How did this program start? “It was a vision that the Vice President of Information Technology had, Mrs. Fabiola Rubio, she came to my office and asked me if I would be interested to start a program dealing with students.” Why is this department/program important to you? “Is it important for success of our students to give them the experience while they are going through school of a career of work, hands on experience.” Are there any upcoming projects STS is working on? “Just to open up more partnerships so that we can expand and give more students the opportunity to be under the STS program.” Any comments on Barbara Walker? “Barbara was a very good friend of ours, she also worked with CISCO when we started the Information Technology project. Since that day back in 2003, I can remember having lunch with Barbara and her writing us a check for the scholarship*, and so that is why we have a scholarship in the STS program for STS students.” * The scholarship it is called the Fabiola & Jacob Rubio Scholarship Fund.

STS Staf f

Amanda Gomez, STS Manager

What is your major and what department did you started with?

“I am currently a Business Administration major at EPCC and I started here in Guiding Path to

Success (GPS) department and student mentoring.”

Raul Ramirez, STS Manager and Administrative Associate

Do STS students get recognition for their hard work. Example, STS employee of the month?

“No, we don’t do that. What we do, whenever students finish their jobs at STS, we provide

them with a certificate of completion and of course with a letter of recommendation upon

request.”

Johana Herrera, STS Manager

What advice can you give to STS students?

“An advice to give to our STS students is to keep their grades up, also to put all their efforts in

their positions.”

Mariana Cardenas, STS Manager

Are STS students able to move up in position? What departments?

“We have different departments, for instance we have the Architecture department, positions

with the Counseling, Biology department, and Library as peer coaches. Yes, we have the

supervisor and manager positions available as long as students meet requirements to qualify for

them and positions are available, students can be considered to move up to these positions.”

Bernie Ortiz, STS Supervisor

How long are students allowed to stay employed in the STS program?

“I am one of the supervisors here at STS, as long as students are registered for six credit hours

which is two classes, they are able to work under our program.”
