• Founded in 1985 prior to the
passage of the ADA.
• Goal is to help young people with
disabilities meet their full potential for
personal development and
independence
• Based on MENTOR’s Elements of
Effective Practice
• PYD’s model has been replicated in
numerous states, most recently
through a grant from the Department
of Labor, Office of Juvenile Justice
and Delinquency Prevention
PYD outcomes show:
PYD youth are excited for school, know more about their career-options, find their voice and gain a supportive community.
79% of PYD participants had a more positive view of themselves
PYD participants were 14% more likely to graduate high school than their peers
PYD participants were 15% more likely to attend a post-secondary school or class than their peers
PYD participants were 27% more likely to be employed in 2019 than their peers
62% of PYD participants express that PYD helped they feel more competent in their abilities in the workplace

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Detroit is an affiliate of
BBBSA our national organization.
● We are a 1:1 mentoring organization. 2-4 times per month.
● We serve between 850-900 youth every year and have
been doing so for over 45 years in Metro Detroit.
● Child safety and healthy relationships are our highest
priorities.
● Match Support sets us apart from most mentoring
organizations. We also have a highly structured and
organized process to enroll youth and volunteers.
● We offer programs at sites and in the general community.
