The Dame Hannah Rogers Trust, or Hannahs as we are known, is a pioneering charity that has worked with and championed, disadvantaged and vulnerable children, young people and adults with a range of disabilities for more than 230 years.Hannahs was founded in 1767 through the generous £10,000 legacy of Dame Hannah Rogers – the wife of a Plymouth MP who had a passion for working with children. Although our proud history has always been varied, the aim has been simple: to help enrich, empower and advocate the lives of children and adults in need.

In 1925 and after much modernisation, Hannahs opened one of the UK’s first orthopaedic hospitals at Ivybridge, on the edge of Dartmoor National Park. Some 30 years later, we opened the doors to educate children with cerebral palsy. Since then, Hannahs has gone from strength to strength, continuing to offer lifelong support – we innovate and champion the education, therapy, independence and

integration of children and adults with profound physical and learning disabilities.

Students are taught English, maths, science and life skills using appropriate levels from the National Curriculum. Visual symbols, sounds,

Brightly coloured displays, mood lit corridors, interactive learning spaces, soft play areas, a trampoline room and a sensory music and light room, ensure all our students learn in a stimulating environment and have time out for fun activities.

We offer daily, weekly or termly education packages, with the additional offer of residential opportunities in our Ofsted registered Children’s home.

young people to live more independently and prepare them for community life. Hannahwood still supplies education, but the timetables are not rigid – they are tailored to meet the needs of the individual.

Hannahs at Seale-Hayne is an inspirational place of opportunity and experience for adults with a range of physical and learning disabilities. Our aim is to give our guests the chance to try different activities, ensuring real choice about what they access at Hannahs. This is done by offering free ‘taster’ sessions from where we can assess their needs and desires.

The majority of guests who access activities come in tandem with their support worker, all funded through the direct payment system. Hannahs can also offer trained enablers to

support individuals for a single session or entire day – either on a one to one or group basis.
