We are pleased to offer an array of professional development sessions for support staff of Park Hill School District. The purposes of support staff professional development are:

• to provide an avenue for staff to expand and refine job skills and knowledge that will further their career opportunities within the district; and

• to build the job skills and knowledge of staff that are needed in order to accomplish the mission and vision of the district.

There are options for every support staff member to consider:

1. Online classes: A wide array of online, job-related classes are available through Ed2Go, a district partner. Online classes cover topics related to instruction, the workplace, and technology. Each online class takes six weeks to complete. A list of possible classes is included in this booklet, with more options listed on the Ed2Go website.

2. On-site training: Sessions offered within the district using our own experts or outside consultants are available. Sessions, dates, and times are included in this booklet.

A registration form is located in the back of the booklet. Supervisor or principal approval is required and space may be limited. Please see the “Frequently Asked Questions” section for more information. If you still have questions, contact Linda Kaiser in Human Resources at [email protected].

Frequently Asked Quesons

Question: What is the cost for employees to attend? Answer: All sessions are offered at no charge to employees of Park Hill School District. Question: Can I sign up for any online course that I want – even if it is not related to my job or to Park Hill School District? Answer: Online courses will be approved if they are related to the mission and vision of Park Hill School District, and offer an opportunity for the district to benefit from your learning. For example, a class on “Becoming a Veterinary Assistant” would not be approved. A class on “Guided Reading Strategies” would be a great class for staff that work with students. Question: What if a training session occurs during my work shift? Answer: Your supervisor will need to approve release time from your job for you to participate. While supervisors will attempt to support your learning, it may not be possible to grant all requests. Question: Will I be paid to attend training? Answer: In many cases, yes. Exceptions:

• Support staff will be paid to attend CPR/AED training only if their particular job requires such training. The training is offered at no cost to all employees.

• Support staff will not be paid for time spent on online courses outside of normal work hours. If work load permits, support staff may work on online courses during work hours.

All other sessions are paid. Your supervisor may adjust your work schedule to prevent an accumulation of overtime. Question: Should I “clock out” through Kronos before I go to an in-district training session? Answer: No. In-district training is paid time for all hourly-paid employees. Question: What if I don’t successfully complete an online course? Answer: You will need to reimburse the district for the cost of the course if you do not successfully complete the course. The costs vary depending on the course, but they range from $89.00 to $199.00. Question: How many classes can I take?

Answer: Please limit your selection to two online classes per year. The number of courses you are approved for beyond that are up to you and your supervisor.

Each course has a 6-week, 12-lesson format that can take up to 24 hours to complete and can be accessed 24/7. Once a course is approved through your supervisor, employees will be sent a passcode via email to register online at no cost. Staff are expected to successfully complete any course for which they are registered. Employees will be required to reimburse the district for the cost of any course that is not successfully completed within the allotted time frame. There is a limit of two online courses per year per person.
