RFIDy RFID( radio frequency identification) is a system of small electronic tags

(comprising a tiny chip plus an antenna) that transmit data via a radio signal toRFID readers and related hardware and software infrastructure.

y How RFID use to apply with supply chain management?

y RFID system can use to help in supply chain by tag on the goods which it carrythe information and helping retailers provide the right product at the rightplace at the right time.

y In the very near future, the adoption of sensor-based Radio FrequencyIdentification (RFID) technology will allow the creation of the real-time,sensor-connected manufacturing plant.

y Many company adding RFID tags to every product, tool, resource and item of

materials handling equipment, manufacturers will be able to get betterdemand signals from customers and the market.

y One of the main drivers of RFID adoption has been the retail sector, led byWal-Mart in the US. Phillip J. Windley, an Associate Professor of Computer

Science at Brigham Young University, estimates that US retail giant Wal-Martalone could save $8.35 billion annually with RFID

    Advantages of RFID

    1. RFID tags are very simple to install/inject inside the body of animals, thushelping to keep a track on them. This is useful in animal husbandry and onpoultry farms. The installed RFID tags give information about the age, vaccinations and health of the animals.

    2. RFID technology is better than bar codes as it cannot be easily replicatedand therefore, it increases the security of the product.

    3. Supply Chain Management forms the major part of retail business and

RFID systems play a key role by managing updates of stocks, transportationand logistics of the product.

    4. Barcode scanners have repeatedly failed in providing security to gems and

jeweleries in shops. But nowadays, RFID tags are placed inside jewelry itemsand an alarm is installed at the exit doors.

5.The RFID tags can store data up to 2 KB whereas, the bar code has the abilityto read just 10-12 digits.
