We have had really good feedback from families having the opon of paper as well as the ability to go on-line. Overwhelmingly the preps are scking to the paper, and Year 5/6 online emailing their teachers and receiving feed- back. We fielded many calls on the first day, but many teething problems were the home internet not coping with all stu- dents in the state on line, and mix ups with passwords. Our MEAs did a marvellous job fielding calls and allaying fears. The calls have reduced to almost zero this week. On Thursday we were able to loan laptops to all students who had indicated they did not have devices (but had inter- net) on the survey from last term. David Hodge emailed to see how we were going and I have asked him to see if he can source 13 dongles for families without. They can then also get the loan computers. We are pung videos up of messages and teaching points rather than face to face teaching for a number of reasons. Students can watch videos at a me that suits the family – many we have found are not up by 9.00 to start! One Year 1 girl watched her teachers message 5 mes. This is wonderful. Students and parents can watch a video explanaon of a maths concept as many mes as needed rather than missingthe lesson and being unsure. We will connue to work on more of these as the weeks connue. The staff are already preparing the week 3/4 packs that will be distributed this Friday. Instrucons for pick up and returning of work will be on Compass as well as guidelines on envelopes include in the new pack. All staff are ringing every student in their class every week, and some more oſten. Everyone is finding this very valua- ble. The social/emoonal connecon to our families is what will see us through above the academic work. We are all incredibly red and the remote learning is more and different work for all of us. We are all geng beer day by day, and could not believe at the end of Friday we had only been doing this for 3 days! No maer what transpires in the future I know our staff will do their absolute best while students are at home and once they return. John Hae, who is the professor we listen to around data, spoke on Friday and alerted us to the New Zealand experi- ence. Research on NZ earthquake schools in Christchurch: Kids missed a term No home school Some challenges Data across the board were higher growth than rest of NZ . REMOTE LEARNING I would like to acknowledge the incredible work all the staff put in to the remote learning packs. We have had really good feedback from families having the option of paper as well as the ability to go on-line. Overwhelmingly the preps are sticking to the paper, and Year 5/6 online emailing their teachers and receiving feed-back. We fielded many calls on the first day, but many teething problems were the home internet not coping with all stu-dents in the state on line, and mix ups with passwords. Our MEAs did a marvellous job fielding calls and allaying fears. The calls have reduced to almost zero this week. On Thursday we were able to loan laptops to all students who had indicated they did not have devices (but had inter-net) on the survey from last term. David Hodgett emailed to see how we were going and I have asked him to see if he can source 13 dongles for families without. They can then also get the loan computers. We are putting videos up of messages and teaching points rather than face to face teaching for a number of reasons. Students can watch videos at a time that suits the family – many we have found are not up by 9.00 to start! One Year 1 girl watched her teacher’s message 5 times. This is wonderful. Students and parents can watch a video explanation of a maths concept as many times as needed rather than ‘missing‘ the lesson and being unsure. We will continue to work on more of these as the weeks continue. The staff are already preparing the week 3/4 packs that will be distributed this Friday. Instructions for pick up and returning of work will be on Compass as well as guidelines on envelopes include in the new pack.

All staff are ringing every student in their class every week, and some more often. Everyone is finding this very valua-ble. The social/emotional connection to our families is what will see us through above the academic work. We are all incredibly tired and the remote learning is more and different work for all of us. We are all getting better day by day, and could not believe at the end of Friday we had only been doing this for 3 days! No matter what transpires in the future I know our staff will do their absolute best while students are at home and once they return. John Hattie, who is the professor we listen to around data, spoke on Friday and alerted us to the New Zealand experi-ence. MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

ANZAC DAY Unfortunately the current circumstances have seen the RSL have to cancel the usual service our choir would sing at. We will also be unable to conduct our usual school service at school. We can all however “remember them” on Saturday. I will still walk across and lay a wreathe from the school at the foot of the memorial in the roundabout. I will also place flowers at the school memorial in the courtyard. Above is a photo of my Uncle Bill. He served in New Guinea, Malaya and Burma. I have knitted 8 poppies in honour of my 8 uncles who all served in World War 2 and safely returned. On Saturday all the poppies will be on my letterbox to honour them. I have attached the very easy pattern if you would like to knit your own. Instead of the dawn service we have been asked to stand in our driveways at dawn and sound the last-post. There will be a televised service at the War memorial in Canberra at 5.30 am.

‘I would also like to point out that any material produced by the school, MUST NOT be shared, reproduced or published in any other way, without the written consent from the school. I ask that you consider our staff in this context. The learning tasks developed, accompanied by the videos is work that we have put a great deal of effort into. We do not post this work in the online environment for praise or public scrutiny – the only purpose is to educate your children. You can imagine how vulnerable and exposed our staff will feel if videos of themselves are shared (even if the intentions are to highlight how wonderful our lessons are) – just as your professional documents and files are not for public display, neither are our teachers – please privilege them their privacy. If I am made aware of this breach of privacy, I will be addressing this with parents/carers directly.’

POPPY PATTERN Use 8ply wool - Red and black 3.25MM needles Cast on 50 stitches in red

1st row. Knit into the back of each stitch 2nd row. *P2 K1 P2* repeat to end 3rd row . *K2 P1 K2* repeat to end Repeat last 2 rows 3 times Change to black K2 tog repeat (25 st) K2 tog repeat K1 (13 st) K2 tog repeat K1 (7 st) Thread wool through last stitches and sew together. YEAR 6/7 TRANSITION PACKS All Year 6 families have been posted their Year 6/7 Transition packs. Please fill these out and post or return to school as soon as possible. If you are having difficulty please ring the school for support. There is a new revised date for its return - revised due date of Friday 29 May 2020. YEAR 5/6 CAMP CANCELLED Unfortunately due to the current restrictions we have had to cancel the Year 5/6 camp in June. If we are unable to do anything later I the year we will organise special events for this cohort of students. SECURITY CAMERAS We were pleased to have all of our security cameras installed at the beginning of the holidays. We hope they will act as a deterrent to the vandals and / or information for police if vandalism occurs. We had many bottles, most broken, around the grounds from the holidays. If you see groups of people on site please ring 000. This is a breach of the social distancing rules and causes damage to our school.

INTERESTING FACTS Unless food is mixed with saliva you can’t taste it. The gecko lizard can run on the ceiling without falling because its toes have flaps of skin that act like suction cups. In web site address on the Internet ‘http’ stands for ‘hypertext transfer protocol.’

Kind regards Julie Gilbert
