ANDROMEDA SUPERFLEX STEEL SLINGS

Made from high tensileSuperflex steel cablewith supreme flexibility.

Suitable for straight,multi-leg, cradle andchoker lifts to maximumcradle lift WLL of 55.7tonnes.

Tapered steel ferrulesavailable upon request. These are thinner thanaluminium, suitable forunderground, marine orcaustic environmentswith no exposed wiretails for greater safety.

We have personally used Superflex Slings fromAndromeda Industries for almost twenty years. Duringthis time they have provided exceptional service, longevity and reliability in trying conditions. Theirconstruction is well suited to irregular shaped loadsfor both basket and choker configurations. The samecan be said about the more recently introduced FlatWoven Slings. Should you be looking for a qualityproduct that is more versatile than conventional wirerope and more robust than synthetic, we recommendAndromeda’s Superflex and Flat Woven Slings.

ANDROMEDA SUPERFLEX STEEL STROPS

Made from hightensile Superflex steelcable with supremeflexibility and grip.

Uses include chokingpower poles andaluminium billets.

Suitable for straight,multi-leg, cradle andchoker lifts to amaximum cradle liftWLL of 83.3 tonnes.

Aluminium ferrules oroptional steel ferrulesavailable suitable formarine, underground orcaustic environments.

I started as a tradesman with Norfolk IslandElectricity in 1987. To lift big loads in thepowerhouse we used very flexible wire strops. In1989 after becoming manager I enquired about thesame type of flexible strop for lifting powerpoles. Since 1987 we have used Andromeda stropsfor lifting heavy equipment in the generator roomand since 1989 for removing old power poles andlifting new poles in place. So in 2016 we arestill using plaited strops for general riggingand to lift power poles. I would recommend tothem to industrial users for general rigging andstanding power poles due to their secure grip, durability and good value.

ANDROMEDASTEEL FERRULES FOR SUPERFLEX

LIFTING SLINGSSafer and easier to use than aluminium ferrules

December 2016

The ferrule is 18 percent smaller in diameterthan equivalent aluminium (Talurit system).

The sling is entirely made of steel. Thus it canbe used in maritime and caustic environmentssuch as found in alumina smelters and similar.

Tapered end neatly covers the wire ends, eliminating the main hazard in using slings, that is cutting hands on the sharp wire endsprotruding from the ferrule.

Four inspection holes provide the capability tosee the wire ends from any side of the ferrule,as per the requirements of AS 1666.

The ferrule is also tapered at the working end,and chamfered at the throat end, thus providinga sling that has no sharp edges to catch in tightplaces.

It provides a centreline exit from the ferrule, improving mechanical and aesthetic designresolution.

ANDROMEDA FLAT WOVEN SLINGS

TYPE 1: Suitable forcradle lift roofsheeting, steel coilsand irregular shapesloads to max 48tonnes.

TYPE 2: Suitable forchoker lift of irregularshaped loads to max.18 tonnes.

Flat Woven Steel slings manufactured by Andromedaare very flexible as I’ve seen them basketed closeto capacity around steel beams with no kinks afteruse. Even FSWR slings basketed under moderateloads with packing around a steel beam shall getkinks and I would not consider using wire ropeslings in the same way as they would be kinkedeven with edge protection in use.

Australian Standard 1666.2 – 2009 specifies theminimum radius that wire rope slings should be appliedto is 1.0d, where “d” is the diameter of the wire rope.

Andromeda performed an in-house test on flat wovenslings around an oxy cut ninety degree steel edge with0.0mm diameter radii.

Minimum break force (MBF) was achieved meaningthere is no detrimental effect from this extreme loadingcondition.

When rigging relevant standards must be compliedwith.

ANDROMEDA LONGWALL CHOCK WINCH ROPES

What they are:Short Superflex cableswith an all steel eyetermination in one endand a plain compressionsleeve on the other end. They are fitted to thewinches of the chockmoving machines inlongwall miningoperations.

December 2016

Why are they used:They enable the winch to pull the chocks onto the forks duringlongwall mining operations. The compact bifurcated eye termination can accept Yellow PinShackles of equivalent strength.Flexible and strong this all-steel assembly is suitable forunderground mining operations.
