First played January 15, 1967, at the Los Angeles Coliseum, the Super Bowl was initiated to match the champions of the then-rival American Football and National Football Leagues. With a dominating defeat of their coun-terpart, the AFL’s Kansas City Chiefs, by a score of 35-10 in Super Bowl I, the Packers laid the foundation for what would become a tradition of Super Bowl success. Just a year later in Super Bowl II, the Packers emerged with an equally impressive 33-14 conquest of the AFL’s Oakland Raiders. Twenty-nine years later, Green Bay made its long- awaited return, appearing in Super Bowl XXXI and beating the New England Patriots 35-21, and making the franchise a perfect three-for-three in the renowned title game.

In commemoration of the those triumphs, each time the Packers went through the process of developing and purchasing a unique, customized ring honoring those within the organization who had contributed to the team’s ultimate success.

SUPER BOWL I CHAMPIONSHIP RING

Designers: Vince Lombardi, the team’s head coach, Bob Skoronski, the team’s starting left tackle and at the time a part-time Jostens sales representative during the off-season, and Ken Westland, a representative of the Jostens

Corporation.

Features: On one side is the NFL logo and shield; above the shield is a ribbon with the scores from the Packers’ NFL Championship and Super Bowl victories, the first one reading, ‘Green Bay 34, Dallas 27’ in the upper left and the second one, ‘Green Bay 35, Kansas City 10’ in the upper right; below the shield was a crown with the three-word inscription, ‘Harmony, Courage, Valor’; on the

other side was a ribbon for the person’s name, a Green Bay Packers helmet and a football. The top of the ring had ‘WORLD CHAMPIONS’ spanning the upper and ‘GREEN BAY PACKERS’ spanning the lower with the words broken up by a ‘19’ on the left and ‘66’ on the right. Within the white gold insert in the center on the top is a 1.00 point full-cut brilliant diamond. As an interesting anecdote, it is said that the specific nature of the diamond being exactly 1.00 pt. stems from the extremely precise, detail-oriented head coach, Vince Lombardi. Full-cut brilliant diamonds can range in size from .93-1.07 points, but according to those involved with the design, Lombardi demanded that the diamonds all be exactly 1.00 pt. The Packers produced approximately 45 of these rings for players, coaches and select staff members.

SUPER BOWL II CHAMPIONSHIP RING

Designers: Lombardi, Skoronski, and Westland.

Features: On one side of the ring was a shield that held within it a Green Bay Packers helmet and two crowns, one honoring the 1966 championship and then another for the 1967 championship. Above the shield are banners commemorating all of the titles that had been won under then-head coach Lombardi: 1961, 1962, 1965, 1966 and 1967. Above those banners is a ribbon similar to the one

from the previous year, featuring the scores of the Packers’ two victorious championship games that closed out the season. The first is, ‘Green Bay 21, Dallas 17,’ in remem-brance of the historic NFL Championship known forever as ‘The Ice Bowl’ and the second reading, ‘Green Bay 33, Oakland 14’ from Super Bowl II. Below the shield reads the word, ‘Challenge.’ The other side of the ring fea-tures a ribbon with the person’s name, and a large crown that has ‘NFL’ inscribed on one side and ‘AFL’ on the other with the crown sitting on top of the globe to signify the world championships. Below the globe was the inscription, ‘Run To Win’. The Packers produced approximately 45 of these rings for play-ers, coaches and select staff members.

SUPER BOWL XXXI CHAMPIONSHIP RING

Designers: Bob Harlan, the Packers’ President and CEO, Ron Wolf, the team’s General Manager, and Mike Holmgren, the head coach, teamed with the organization’s seven-member executive committee and worked in con-cert with Jostens representatives Gary Rotherham, John Scarpellini, and Charlie Anderson, a championship ring artist, to develop the idea.

Features: The center-top of the ring boasts a raised ‘G’ on a background of diamonds with the words ‘World Champions’ surround the logo. One shank (side) features the word ‘Packers’ over the year ‘1996’ above the word ‘Tradition’, while the other shank includes the recipient’s name, the Packers’ logo on a helmet, the team’s 1996-97 record (16-3) and the recipient’s number or position with the team. The ring contains 115 diamonds totaling 235 points or 2.35 karats. In a true testament to the expansion of not only the league’s roster limits, but also the front office and board of directors, the team produced 165 of the actual championship rings.

In addition to the rings themselves, Jostens designed several different sketches for the Packers, including a women’s ring for female staff and coaches’ and players’

wives. Each mar-ried player and coach received a women’s ring for his spouse and any single players or coaches received a yellow ‘G’ pendant with 87.5 points of diamonds in it.

At the NFL Spring Meeting on May 22, 2001, in Rosemont, Ill., NFL owners unanimously approved realignment, coinciding with the Houston Texans’ 2002 debut. The 32-team league calls for a harmonic scheduling rotation, in comparison with awkward formulas used in previous seasons. Each team within a division now plays 14 common opponents, as follows: u Each team plays home and away against its three division opponents (six games). u Each team plays the four teams from another division within its conference on a rotating three-year cycle (four games). u Each team plays the four teams from a division in the other conference on a rotating four-year cycle (four games). u Each team plays a pair of intraconference games based on the prior year’s standings (two games); i.e., first-place teams

in a division will play against the first-place teams from another division within the same conference, etc. (two games).

Wayne Larrivee and Larry McCarren enter their 11th season of broadcasts together across the Packers Radio Network in 2009. Though both are veteran broadcasters, the two were paired for the first time in 1999 to bring the color and excitement of Green Bay Packers football to fans throughout Wisconsin, Upper Michigan and three more-distant states.

L arrivee, who grew up as a fan of the Packers in his native Lee, Mass., enters his 32nd consecutive year broadcasting NFL games, having joined Green Bay’s

broadcast team after 14 seasons as the radio voice of the Chicago Bears (1985-98) on WGN and WMAQ Radio in Chicago. Earlier, he had done play-by-play of Kansas City Chiefs games for seven years (1978-84) on KCMO Radio in Kansas City. Known for his thorough preparation and his moderated, yet enthusiastic, call of the action, Larrivee’s more-recent credits also include play-by-play for Big Ten Conference football and basketball for ESPN Regional and Big Ten Network, co-host of the nationally syndicated Pro Football Weekly radio program the past 20 years, and Chicago Cubs baseball. He also served as play-by-play announcer of Chicago Bulls basketball on WGN-TV from 1991-2008 and for NCAA basketball on Westwood One/CBS Sports Radio.

Highly-decorated, the 54-year-old Larrivee was named Illinois ‘Sportscaster of the Year’ in 1997 and is a seven-time winner of the Silver Dome Award, presented by the Illinois Broadcasters Association, for best radio football play-by-play. He is also a four-time winner of a Midwest Emmy for Bulls basketball play-by-play.

A 1977 graduate of Emerson College in Boston, he was awarded the school’s Alumni Achievement Award in June 2005. Larrivee also has done play-by-play of University of Iowa football, Quad Cities (Iowa) Angels minor league baseball, University of Missouri basketball and Kansas City Kings basketball.

M cCarren first joined the team’s broadcasts in 1995, working his first four seasons with Jim Irwin and Max McGee. Inducted into the Packers

Hall of Fame in 1992, he also is a favorite among televi-sion viewers in northeast Wisconsin. Sports director at WFRV-TV in Green Bay since 1988, he additionally served previously as co-host of Inside 1265, the official television program of the Green Bay Packers. He four times has been voted Wisconsin ‘Sportscaster of the Year’ (1994, 1996, 2002, 2007) by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association.

An iron man at center for the Packers for 12 seasons (1973-84), McCarren played in 162 consecutive games — the fourth-longest streak in team history — helping him earn the nickname ‘Rock.’ He was voted to the Pro Bowl in 1982 and ’83. Earlier, he had been a co-captain at the University of Illinois as both a junior and senior. McCarren, 57, originally is from Park Forest, Ill.

R adio station WTMJ, which has been broadcasting the team’s games since November of 1929, con-tinues its long-standing role as the flagship station

of the Packers Radio Network. That designation continues into this century as the two parties announced an exten-sion to their radio broadcast rights agreement in 2002.

The Packers Radio Network is made up of 48 stations in 43 markets and five states.

ON THE AIR

The Green Bay Packers, Green Bay’s WFRV-TV Channel 5, the CBS station that is part of the Viacom Television Stations Group, and Milwaukee’s WTMJ-TV enter year seven of a comprehensive broadcasting partnership that runs through the 2011 season that provides year-round Packers programming, in addition to pre-season games, to fans throughout Wisconsin and the Midwest.

Regarded as an NFL model for year-round brand extension, the partnership produces the most com-prehensive and varied team programming in the club’s 80-year broadcasting history.

The agreement also provides for outdoor billboard advertising and other media supporting Lambeau Field as a year-round destination venue for family entertain-ment, dining and Packers football excitement.

The Lambeau Field Atrium is the site of the Atrium Broadcast Center, a television studio that serves as a hub for regular on-site programming by WFRV-TV and WTMJ-TV, including news, sports and/or weather, throughout the year.

The broadcasting package includes:

uTelevising, by CBS Sports and WFRV-TV in con-junction with Milwaukee’s WTMJ-TV, Packers pre-season games over a nine-station network through-out the state of Wisconsin, Upper Michigan and Northeastern Minnesota, with CBS network pro-duction, personnel and the latest network-quality technology.

uA top-notch broadcast team that includes CBS’s Kevin Harlan calling the play-by-play alongside fellow CBS broadcaster Rich Gannon providing the analysis. WTMJ’s Jessie Garcia serves as the side-line reporter and WFRV’s Larry McCarren joins the crew for pre-game segments.

uAn informative half-hour show prior to each pre-season game.

uA half-hour preview show during training camp.uA Packers Inside Lambeau show Thursday nights

during the season, originating from Curly’s Pub in the Lambeau Field Atrium, that includes player guests.

uA half-hour holiday special highlighting the Packers’ extensive and ongoing community-relations efforts.

As well as a first-rate on-air broadcast lineup, the partnership boasts an excellent production team. CBS’s Ross Schneiderman, a six-time Emmy Award winner, serves as producer and Suzanne Smith, a three-time Emmy Award-winning producer and director for CBS, works as director for the game telecasts.

In addition to WFRV-TV and WTMJ-TV, the games are televised over WKOW/ABC, Madison, Wis.; WAOW/ABC, Wausau/Rhinelander, Wis.; WXOW/ABC, La Crosse, Wis.; WQOW/ABC, Eau Claire; WYOW/ABC, Eagle River, Wis.;

WJMN/CBS, Marquette, Mich.; and KQDS-TV/FOX, Duluth, Minn., and KGCW/CW, Quad Cities in Iowa.

An ancillary benefit afforded by the agreement are special programs about the Lambeau Field Atrium and the Packers Hall of Fame, plus the promotion of Lambeau Field and Brown County tourism on a regional basis through CBS/Liberty-owned TV stations in Chicago, Detroit and Minneapolis, in addition to Green Bay.

The partnership also provides the Packers an opportunity to salute Wisconsin’s high school athletes as well, through supporting messages during broadcasts of the WIAA basketball tourna-ments and other prep events.

MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION

WAIvERSThe waiver system is a procedure by which player con-tracts or NFL rights to players are made available by a club to other clubs in the League. During the procedure, the 31 other clubs either file claims to obtain the players or waive the opportunity to do so—thus the term “waiver.” Claiming clubs are assigned players on a priority based on the inverse of won-and-lost standing. The claiming period is 24 hours from the first business day after the Super Bowl through the last business day prior to June 1. FromJune 1 through the last business day prior to July 4, the claiming period is three days. From the first business day after July 4 through the conclusion of the regular season, the claiming period is 24 hours. If a player passes through waivers unclaimed, he becomes a free agent. All waivers are no recall and no withdrawal. Under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, from the beginning of the waiver system each year through the trading deadline (October 20, 2009), any veteran who has acquired four years of pension credit is not subject to the waiver system if theclub desires to release him. After the trading deadline, such players are subject to the waiver system.

ACtIvE/INACtIvE LIStThe Active/Inactive List is the principal status for players participating for a club. It consists of all players under contract who are eligible for preseason, regular-season, and postseason games. Teams are permitted to open training camp with no more than 80 players under contract and thereafter must meet two mandatory roster reduc-tions prior to the season opener. Teams will be permitted an Active List of 45 players and an Inactive List of eight players for each regular-season and postseason game. Provided that a club has two quarterbacks on its 45-player Active List, a third quarterback from its Inactive List is permitted to dress for the game, but if he enters the game during the first three quarters, the other two quarterbacks are thereafter prohibited from playing. Teams also are per-mitted to establish Practice Squads of up to eight players who are eligible to participate in practice, but these players remain free agents and are eligible to sign with any other team in the league.

In addition to the squad limits described above, the overall roster limit of 80 players remains in effect throughout the regular season and postseason. The overall limit is applicable to players on a team’s Active, Inactive, and certain Exempt Lists, players on the Practice Squad, and players on the Reserve List as Injured, Physically Unable to Perform, Non-Football Illness/Injury, and Suspended by Club.

RESERvE LIStThe Reserve List is a status for players who, for reasons of injury, retirement, military service, or other circumstances, are not immediately available for participation with a club. Players on Reserve/Injured are not eligible to practice or return to the Active/Inactive List in the same season that they are placed on Reserve. Players in the category of Reserve/Retired, Reserve/Did Not Report, Reserve/Exclusive Rights, and players who were placed in the cat-egory of Reserve/Left Squad in a previous season may not be reinstated during the period from 30 days before the end of the regular season through the postseason.

tRADESUnrestricted trading between the AFC and NFC is allowed in 2009 through October 20, after which trading will end until 2010.

tO BREAK A tIE WItHIN A DIvISIONIf, at the end of the regular season, two or more clubs in the same division finish with the best won-lost-tied per-centage, the following steps will be taken until a champion is determined:

TWO CLUBS 1. Head-to-head (best won-lost-tied percentage in

games between the clubs). 2. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played

within the division. 3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games. 4. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played

within the conference. 5. Strength of victory. 6. Strength of schedule. 7. Best combined ranking among conference teams in

points scored and points allowed. 8. Best combined ranking among all teams in points

scored and points allowed. 9. Best net points in common games. 10. Best net points in all games. 11. Best net touchdowns in all games. 12. Coin toss.

THREE OR MORE CLUBS NOTE: If two clubs remain tied after a third club is elimi-

nated during any step, tie-breaker reverts to Step 1 of the two-club format.

1. Head-to-head (best won-lost-tied percentage in games among the clubs).

2. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the division.

3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games. 4. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played

within the conference. 5. Strength of victory. 6. Strength of schedule. 7. Best combined ranking among conference teams in

points scored and points allowed. 8. Best combined ranking among all teams in points

scored and points allowed. 9. Best net points in common games. 10. Best net points in all games. 11. Best net touchdowns in all games. 12. Coin toss.

tO BREAK A tIE FOR tHE WILD CARD tEAM

If it is necessary to break ties to determine the two Wild Card clubs from each conference, the following steps will be taken:

A. If all the tied clubs are from the same division, apply division tie-breaker.

B. If the tied clubs are from different divisions, apply the following steps:

TWO CLUBS 1. Head-to-head, if applicable. 2. Best won-lost-tied percentage in the games played

within the conference. 3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games,

minimum of four. 4. Strength of victory. 5. Strength of schedule. 6. Best combined ranking among conference teams in

points scored and points allowed. 7. Best combined ranking among all teams in points

scored and points allowed. 8. Best net points in conference games. 9. Best net points in all games. 10. Best net touchdowns in all games. 11. Coin toss.

THREE OR MORE CLUBS 1. Apply division tie-breaker to eliminate all but high-

est ranked club in each division prior to proceeding to Step 2. The original seeding within a division upon application of the division tie-breaker remains the same for all subsequent applications of the procedure that are necessary to identify the Wild Card participants.

2. Head-to-head sweep (apply only if one club has defeated each of the others or one club has lost to each of the others).

3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.

4. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games, minimum of four.

5. Strength of victory. 6. Strength of schedule. 7. Best combined ranking among conference teams in

points scored and points allowed. 8. Best combined ranking among all teams in points

scored and points allowed. 9. Best net points in conference games. 10. Best net points in all games. 11. Best net touchdowns in all games. 12. Coin toss.

When the first Wild Card team has been identified, the procedure is repeated to name the second Wild Card (i.e., eliminate all but the highest-ranked club in each division prior to proceeding to Step 2.) In situations where three teams from the same division are involved in the procedure, the original seeding of the teams remains the same for subsequent applications of the tie-breaker if the top-ranked team in that division qualifies for a Wild Card berth.

The following procedures will be used to break standings ties for postseason playoffs and to determine regular-season schedules (NOTE — tie games count as one-half win and one-half loss for both clubs).

MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION / BIOGRAPHY INDEX

OtHERtIE-BREAKING PROCEDURES

1. Only one club advances to the playoffs in any tie-breaking step. Remaining tied clubs revert to the first step of the applicable division or Wild Card tie-breakers. As an example, if two clubs remain tied in any tie-breaker step after all other clubs have been eliminated, the procedure reverts to Step 1 of the two-club format to determine the winner. When one club wins the tie-breaker, all other clubs revert to Step 1 of the applicable two-club or three-club format.

2. In comparing records against common opponents among tied teams, the best won-lost-tied percent-age is the deciding factor since teams may have played an unequal number of games.

3. To determine home-field priority among division-titlists, apply Wild Card tie-breakers.

4. To determine home-field priority for Wild Card qualifiers, apply division tie-breakers (if teams are from the same division) or Wild Card tie-breakers (if teams are from different divisions).

tIE-BREAKING PROCEDURESFOR SELECtION MEEtING

1. Clubs not participating in the playoffs shall select in the first through 20th positions in reverse standings order.

ASSISTANT COACH AVAILABILITYAll by request, through the P.R. department

u During training camp, all assistants generally will be available on the field – for both print and electronic media – upon request following the day’s first practice, in-person, on Tuesdays. Coordinators only will be avail-able on Thursdays under the same guidelines.

u During the regular season, assistants generally will be available in person on Mondays and Thursdays in the hall-way outside the locker room. On Mondays, this availability will be between 3-3:30 p.m. On Thursdays, this availability will be soon after practice (approx. 1:30 p.m.).

u Following games, coordinators will be available upon request, provided the request is made through the P.R. department (preferably by the two-minute warning and no later than the time the locker room opens to media).

u Coordinators – Joe Philbin (offense, pictured at top), Dom Capers (defense, middle) and Shawn Slocum (special teams, bottom) – will continue to serve as primary spokesmen in their respective areas.

u However, position coaches are available for questions on spe-cific players and the position group only. Broader interview topics need to be directed to the respective coordinator.

u Assistant coaches also are avail-able for interviews on more per-sonal subjects, such as Winston Moss on his NFL playing career.

u No assistant coach should be contacted directly by telephone (at his desk, home or on his cell phone), or by e-mail. All inter-views must be arranged through the P.R. department.

u Sarah Quick (920/569-7213) serves as the primary contact for assistant coaches. In her absence, feel free to contact either Adam Woullard (920/569-7214) or Rob Crane (920/569-7218).

PRACTICE ACCESS & PHOTOGRAPHY GUIDELINES

u During training camp, practices are open in their entirety to credentialed media. However, photography may not be allowed for some periods at the direction of the coaching staff.

u During the regular season, Wednesday-Friday practices will be open to state media who regularly cover the team for designated periods during the first half of each ses-sion, similar to previous seasons. Also as in previous years, photo opportunities will be limited to 1-2 periods at the beginning of practice.

u Regular-season practices will begin at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday, and at 10 a.m. Friday.

u The team reserves the right to limit photography to certain periods for competitive reasons. This restric-tion applies to both training camp and regular-season practices.

TED THOMPSON INTERVIEWS (PRESEASON)

u During training camp, General Manager Ted Thompson will be available weekly for group interviews in the Media Auditorium. These sessions are meant to meet the needs of electronic media, along with assisting print media. As needed, primary beat writers may continue to sched-ule one-on-one interviews at other times, over the telephone through Jeanne Bruette. All other requests should be directed to Jeff Blumb at 920/569-7210.

u Generally, these group sessions with Thompson will commence at 11:30 a.m., shortly after the completion of the open locker room period for player access.

u Please check with the P.R. staff in mid-July for a spe-cific schedule of Thompson’s press conferences.

MIKE McCARTHY PRESS CONFERENCES

u Head Coach Mike McCarthy will preview training camp in the Media Auditorium on Friday, July 31, at 4 p.m.

u During training camp, the coach generally will be available on the field once per day, following the first practice. On days with two practices, this press conference will take place following the morning session, at approximately 10:35 a.m. He also has agreed to make himself available for no more than five minutes following the evening practice. This brief evening session is not to be recorded for broadcast purposes. On days with one practice, McCarthy’s press conference will take place following the 2 p.m. session, at approximately 4:30 p.m.

u During the regular season, the coach generally will be available in the Media Auditorium Monday (12:15 p.m.), Wednesday (1:25 p.m.), Thursday (1:15 p.m.), Friday (12:10 p.m.) and after home games.

u One-on-one interviews with McCarthy should be arranged through Jeff Blumb (920/569-7210).

PLAYER INTERVIEWSu During training camp, the team’s locker room will open

once per day for 30 minutes, following the first practice. On days with two practices, this availability will take place following the morning session, from approxi-mately 10:45-11:15 a.m. On days with one practice, this availability will take place following the 2 p.m. session, from approximately 4:45-5:15 p.m. There will be no player availability following night practices.

u During the regular season, the locker room gener-ally will be open on Monday (3-3:30 p.m.), Wednesday (1:45-2:30 p.m.), Thursday (1:45-2:30 p.m.), Friday (12:15-1 p.m.) and following games.

u At the conclusion of all games, the locker room will be opened following the NFL’s standard “cooling off” period.

u Any requests to interview players other than at the aforementioned times should be directed to a member of the Packers’ public relations department.
