Mama took him to the store, where he ordered a 3’ Sub sandwich. “It was $25 Mama. I hope I have enough.”

Mama told him, “That's why it's important to always have a list and a budget. It keeps you from overspending.”

Kirby knew he was going to have to be careful with the rest of his money. He looked at his list. He still needed chips and veggies. Plus, he wanted to get cookies and a football cake for dessert. He had more money, but he didn’t want to use it all for the party. He wanted to save it for later.

He grabbed a couple bags of chips with two kinds of dip. The chips were on sale. Two of the big family sized bags were $6. The dips were $3 each. He had only $13 left.

Kirby looked at the veggies. He bought carrots, celery and some dip. He could make his own veggie tray for half of what the store charged to cut it for him. His veggies and dip were only $6. He looked at Mama, “I have $7 left and still need dessert. I will have to ask everyone to bring their own drinks because I am out of money.”

Mama said she thought that was a good idea. They looked at the football cake it was $10. Kirby thought for a moment, then he saw the cupcakes. They were decorated in the team colors and had a plastic football ring on top. He could get a dozen for $5. He had $2 left. “Mama, I guess I won't get cookies this time.”

“Kirby, I have an idea. Why don't we go home and we can make some cookies together?” said Mama.

Kirby smiled, “that's a great idea, Mama. They will taste better too.” They checked out and headed home. Kirby was excited for his party tomorrow. He hoped his team won.
