The Storm Lake Heritage Tree Museum, located

in Sunset Park, is a unique educational and recre-

ational attraction for residents and visitors alike. A

walking path guides visitors through authentic, di-

rect descendents of trees that shaded the lives of

famous people, events, and places.

Because the planting of a tree is an investment in

the future, this museum offers a unique way to con-

nect both our past and our future.

The museum includes over 40 trees including a

Johnny Appleseed Apple Tree, a George Washing-

ton Sycamore Tree, General Sherman Maple Tree,

and an American Sycamore Moon Tree.

• Open year round

• No admission fee

• Located in Sunset Park on West Lakeshore Drive

• Phone: 712-732-8000

• Fax: 712-732-4114

• Audio tour available to download at

www.heritagetreemuseum.com

The museum was founded in 1987 through the ef-

forts of a volunteer group led by former Storm Lake

Mayor Wilbur Tucker. All of the trees in the Heritage

Tree Museum are seedlings from the original his-

toric tree.

This museum is free and open to the public

throughout the year, with the best times to visit

during the summer and fall. Each tree has an infor-

mational plaque with a brief history of the tree and

its lineage.

New in 2008, thanks to the efforts of Eagle Scout

Darren Johnson, the Storm Lake Heritage Tree Mu-

seum received a much needed face lift which rein-

vented the attraction and utilizes new technology

to enhance the visitor’s experience. These improve-

ments included expanded histories and an audio

tour.

Visit www.heritagetreemuseum.com to take a vir-

tual tour of the park and download the audio files

to your MP3 player for your next walking tour.

We invite you to spend some time traveling back

in history as told through the leaves and branches

of the Heritage Tree Museum.
