People involved in the decision process were Jimmy (president), Ronald (large format manager) and myself (general manager). In the short list were The Oce/Fuji machine, the Agfa Titan, the Domin8tor by Gandy Digital. Ronald had found swissQprint on line but it wasn’t immediately in the running because we didn’t recognize it as being a major player in the U.S. market. After we had already made contacts with the other vendors to get samples, we decided to toss swissQ into the ring out of curiosity and due diligence. I sent an e-mail to swissQ. The response from Mike Frawley was immediate. Even though we contacted swissQ late in the game, Mike was actually the first representative to pay us a visit. He really got us interested by describing what was special about the machine in a way that appealed to our technical sensibility. He also managed to get Ronald and I out to NJ fairly quickly to demo an Impala. Interestingly, Agfa, our eventual runner-up, took longer to even get us preliminary samples. We kept a spreadsheet comparison going to keep track of all of our machine research. SwissQ was very highly rated in all of our important categories. The design of the machine and their approach to UV printing agree very much with our own views and experience. A few examples: the importance of precise alignment of dot placement (as opposed to a simplistic idea of picoliter size alone achieving quality), flexibility in customizing our own print modes and control of the machine with the GUI, ink options, special effects, speed in setting up many different jobs, and print speed achieved without introducing much banding or other problems. Mike, and later Keng Lau at the NJ demo, both did an amazing job of getting these concepts across and then proving the concepts with demonstration, samples, and testimonials. We added other machines to the comparison list, including CET and Screen, met with the other reps and attended other demos. One by one they each disqualified themselves on at least one of our important categories while swissQ stayed at the top of the list. We did, I am sure, more research than any of Mike’s other customers, looking for a reason to give one of the other vendors another look, but swissQ held fast. As time went on we came back with question after question. We came up with many deep and obscure things about the heads, print modes, and ink set. Mike serenely addressed each concern, either supplying the answer directly or channeling the information from others. He made several visits to introduce us to the local service technician, bring more samples, and keep us generally excited about swissQ. Mike helped us decide on the machine configuration that makes the most business sense for us, was up front and honorable in price negotiation, and has kept us up to date on the logistics of machine delivery. After a very long audition process, we look forward to finally having our Nyala on the floor to see all we can do with it. (I will be happy to provide specific information after we are up and running.) A significant thing that stands out in my memory is the way Mike got out to us so quickly to make the case, giving swissQ a strong early lead. Thanks, Steve Miller General Manager

Re: Sunrise Hitek Group decision to purchase a swissQprint Nyala printer

Comments on decision process:

We were doing research on a new UV-curable flatbed to replace our current Gandinnovations Jeti machines.
