SUNNYBROOK DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHIATRY Strategic Plan 2013 – 2017 Clinical Care Goals Strengthen engagement with Programs and community services external to the Department of Psychiatry. Improve delivery of quality care. Develop collaborations citywide in areas of strength such as geriatrics, youth bipolar disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder; and areas that are not a focus, like addiction. Strengthen linkages to research and education. Clinical Care Objectives Years 2 - 3 § Enhance availability of quality-based metrics of clinical care. Completion of a mental health executive dashboard. Improving access to all quality-based metrics on the Portal. Quarterly reporting to medical staff and full department. Incorporate ambulatory measures of volume and flow/access. § Complete at least two quality improvement projects in ambulatory service. At least one related to flow. At least one related to clinical outcomes. § Complete at least two quality improvement projects in inpatient service. At least one related to flow. At least one related to clinical outcomes. § Leadership on LHIN initiatives to enhance access to ambulatory mental health services. Implementation of eConsults. Enhancing access to consultants in the TC LHIN – Common Minimum Data Set and Physician Registry. Expansion of telepsychiatry – education and clinical care. § Collaboration with Mental Health and Addictions Acute Care Alliance initiatives. Education Goals Improve PGY-2 experience. Foster faculty excellence in a learning environment. Adopt a focus on IPE. Extend patient and family education opportunities. Deepen use of technology and other innovative practices in education. Develop required infrastructure. Education Objectives Years 2 - 3 § Maintain high rankings of PGY-2 rotations in the resident match and positive comments in the site feedback sessions. § Continue to nominate at least two Sunnybrook faculty for teaching and education awards each year. § List all teaching and education award winners on the Departmental portal (or on public website). § Increase participation in faculty development events/programs above the 2014 baseline (as documented in the ATF/ETF reports). § Maintain education scholarship activity (e.g., publications, presentations) equal to the 2014 baseline (as documented in the ATF/ETF reports). § Create an IPC/IPE leadership position and an IPC/IPE committee to pursue implementation of IPC/IPE initiatives. § Hold at least one Grand Rounds each year with a specific IPE focus or with an interprofessional team. § Use the videoconferencing equipment for at least one educational event in Year 2; at least twice for Year 3. § Hold at least one Grand Rounds this year on the subject of quality improvement. Integration and Collaboration Targets: § Initiate a “Meet the Investigator” lecture series, in which clinician scientists will communicate their research biographical narrative, and their future research plans. § Each researcher will have ≥1 non-Sunnybrook member of the U of T department of psychiatry, and ≥1 non-psychiatry Brain Sciences investigator as collaborators. § Collectively, the department’s researchers will have co-investigators in every program of the hospital and in every discipline of SRI. § At least one REB-approved study within the department at all times based on ICES data. Education Targets: § Departmental first points of contact will be identified in the following areas: neuroimaging, biomarkers, cognition, psychotherapy research, pharmacotherapy research, ICES, K/T. § Compile and maintain a list of on-site graduate students and post-doctoral research fellows, along with their topic of study, disseminate the list to the department, and include a trainee in at least one Grand Rounds and at least one Mood-Anxiety Rounds.
