What is Recovery?

Recovery is a personal journey and hence you may already have, or at least be developing, your own definition of what recovery is. There are however some themes that are generally common to recovery.

Recovery: has different meaning to different people. When we use this term we mean having the ability to live a satisfying and meaningful life, whether or not you have continuing difficulties with your mental health. Three of the key elements in the narratives of people with lived experience are hope, opportunity and self management and you will see references to these throughout this prospectus.

Hope: is central to recovery and getting through very difficult times can be extremely challenging, to help with this we may need something that gives us hope for the future.

Opportunity: to develop ourselves and help create meaning in our lives we need the opportunity to do so.

Self Management: is something we all do. It is whatever we do to make the most of our lives by coping with our difficulties and making the most of what we have.
