Veterans Art Foundation

Join us on Spruce Street for a dazzling celebration of animation, illustration, photography, and painting accompanied by thesound-stylings of classical guitarist Liam Calhoun. Meghan Williams is an animator, illustrator, and designer with a wealth oforiginal characters. She develops narratives that explore philosophical themes—or just make people laugh. Patrick Stavensrecently earned his BFA in Painting from Maine College of Art. He draws inspiration from his father’s construction practice inwork that explores and subverts different facets of the male identity. With a passion for the moment and what her Nikon cancapture, Christiane Heller-O’Brien’s work is a reflection of herself: independent, strong-willed, and visually motivated. Afterovercoming childhood cancer at the tender age of four, Kayla Ferrell latched onto creative expression as an outlet to theworld where every- and anything is made possible. Her abstract forms and portraits are inspired by the music she listens to,the colors around her, and her thoughts and beliefs.

The Veterans Art Foundation closes out the 2016 Sundays at 4 Summer Series on the National Day of Service and Remem-brance. The Veterans Art Foundation was created by veterans for veterans, with the understanding that the arts can be used tocope with the traumas of war. In 2009, after returning home from his tour of duty, Iraq war veteran Michael Hawley found ex-pressing himself through film and photography helped him cope with his trauma. He established the Veterans Art Foundation(VAF) with the goal of assisting other veterans who were going through a similar experience. The mission of VAF is to proveprograms and services that allow veterans to heal through the arts. Whether it is through film, music, writing, photography, orpainting, the VAF is committed to helping veterans readjust to civilian life.
