KEEPING UP!

CALL TO WORSHIP Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with

gladness: come before His presence with singing. Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise: be thankful unto

Him, and bless His name. For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting; and His truth endureth to all generations.

OLD TESTAMENT READING Exodus 14:1-7 (NKJV)

1Now the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: 2 “Speak to the

children of Israel, that they turn and camp before Pi

Hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, opposite Baal

Zephon; you shall camp before it by the sea. 3 For

Pharaoh will say of the children of

Israel, ‘They are bewildered by the land; the wilderness

has closed them in.’ 4 Then I will harden Pharaoh’s heart,

so that he will pursue them; and I will gain honor over

Pharaoh and over all his army, that the Egyptians may

know that I am the Lord.” And they did so. 5 Now it was

told the king of Egypt that the people had fled, and the

heart of Pharaoh and his servants was turned against the

people; and they said, “Why have we done this, that we

have let Israel go from serving us?” 6 So he made ready

his chariot and took his people with him. 7 Also, he

took six hundred choice chariots, and all the chariots of

Egypt with captains over every one of them

NEW TESTAMENT READING John 5:1-8 (NKJV)

LEADER: After this there was a feast of the Jews,

and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, which is called in Hebrew, Bethesda, having five porches.

CONG: In these lay a great multitude of sick people, blind, lame, paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water. For an angel went down at a certain time into the pool and stirred up the water; then whoever stepped in first, after the stirring of the water, was made well of whatever disease he had.

LEADER: Now a certain man was there who had an infirmity thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, “Do you want to be made well?”

ALL: The sick man answered Him, “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.” Jesus said to him, “Rise, take up your bed and walk.”

Love Lifted Me

I was sinking deep in sin, far from the peaceful shore, Very deeply stained within, Sinking to rise no more; But the Master of the sea Heard my despairing cry,

From the waters lifted me—Now safe am I.

CHORUS: Love lifted me, Love lifted me, When nothing else could help,

Love lifted me; Love lifted me, Love lifted me, When nothing else could help,

Love lifted me.

All my Heart to Him I give, Ever to Him I’ll cling, In His blessed presence live, Ever His praises sing.

Love so mighty and so true Merits my soul’s best songs; Faithful, loving service too To Him belongs.

Souls in danger, look above, Jesus completely saves; He will lift you by His love Out of the angry waves.

He’s the Master of the sea, Billows His will obey; He your Savior wants to be-Be saved today.

Every Christian should strive to learn how to be a cheerful giver. When we give what does it actually mean? It simply means we cheerfully give back to God our tithes and offerings.

When we celebrate Black History Month,

we recognize, honor and acknowledge

the contributions and achievements

of those who went before us.

Vivian Carter Mason (February 10, 1890 – May 10, 1982) was born to George Carter, a Methodist minister, and Florence William Carter, a music teacher, in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania. She moved to Auburn, New York during her childhood and attended public schools, before attending college at the University of Chicago in 1925 where she studied political economy and social welfare. While at the University of Chicago, she met her husband, William T.

Mason of Trinidad, West Indies. She was inspired at an early age by her mother's advocacy of women's rights and her father's moral and spiritual values. Vivian was a staunch advocate for gender and civil rights as well as an ardent supporter of universal education. Vivian Mason founded the National Committee of 100 women which served as a free summer camp for underprivileged children. On April 17, 1945, Mason jumpstarted the Women's Council for Interracial Cooperation (WCIC). This group represented females from all different racial backgrounds and ethnicities. Later in 1945, Mason was chosen to represent the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) at the first meeting of the International Women's Democratic Federation in Paris, France. She served as vice president for the American affiliate. Mason is remembered as a leader of the feminist movement, civil rights movement, and labor movement during the 20th century. Throughout her life, she served on many boards concentrated in New York and Norfolk, Virginia. She was determined in changing her community to promote unity amongst people of all genders and races. She broke history by becoming the first black woman leader of more than one organization.
