FROM THE CHANCELLORrsquoS DESK

As Christians we each encounter unexpected obstacles each day As we seek to remain committed to our Lord Jesus Christ we come to realize that following Him is a lifestyle that builds on past lessons and decisions Perhaps the most important factor is our willingness to dedicate our lives to Him totally each day While we succeeded yesterday or last week each day God looks forward to our continuing to grow closer in our rela-tionship with Him Through our prayers we can seek His will to enable us to live with Him and include others as we journey to His eternal Kingdom Each new day is both a challenge and an opportunity Yes our faith will be challenged and we can use that challenge as an opportunity to grow in our relationship with God Jesus Himself said that those who wanted to be His disciples were expected to be in a continual attitude of self-denial and obedience to Him Heres how the Lord put it ldquoIf any want to be-come My followers let them deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me (Luke 923) As each day unfolds consider taking a brief time-out Yes pause and re-mind yourself that this is a day dedicated to God that it is to be used for His glory and that it is best lived with a continual recollection of what Jesus did for us on the Cross As we begin each day lets look at life this way and make a deliberate and conscious commitment to cling to Him Our lives as Christians began in the past but continue in the present when we dedicate every day to live for Christ and share with our families and others what He did for all of us That way our future is assured and we will know for certain the path to pursue which lasts forever +Fr George Tsahakis Chancellor

The Reading is from St Pauls Letter to the Galatians 216-20 BRETHREN you know that a man is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ even we have believed in Christ Je-sus in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law because by works of the law shall no one be justified But if in our endeavor to be justified in Christ we ourselves were found to be sinners is Christ then an agent of sin Certainly not But if I build up again those things which I tore down then I prove myself a transgres-sor For I through the law died to the law that I might live to God I have been crucified with Christ it is no longer I who live but Christ who lives in me and the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave himself for me

The Reading is from The Gospel of Mark 834-38 91 The Lord said If anyone wishes to come after me let him deny him-self and take up his cross and follow me For whoever would save his life will lose it and whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospels will save it For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his life For what can a man give in return for his life For who-ever is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful gen-eration of him will the Son of man also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels And he said to them Truly I say to you there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God come with power
