The workshop will be held on Wednesday 24th August in the Oblate Room. Morning Tea will be served from 8:45am and the workshop will commence at 9:30am. To RSVP please contact 02 9644 3555 or email [email protected] by 17th August. Dear Parishioners, There is an unusual and intriguing phrase said by Jesus at the conclusion of todays gospel as recounted by St Luke. Jesus says From everyone to whom much has been given, much will be required; and from the one to whom much has been entrusted, even more will be demanded”. It is difficult to decide whether it is a life-giving promise or an impending threat. The statement is made in the context of Jesus speaking about the trust between a master and a servant and is in the context of the rewards promised to a faithful servant and the punishment due to an unfaithful one. Most, if not all of us, have been blessed and endowed with the graces and gifts of God in a thousand different ways from our lifestyle and prosperity to our families and upbringing. As we look around our world it would be difficulty not to feel a little spoiled by God when we see the misery and suffering of so many others in the world today. Needless to say we all experience the inconveniences and difficulties of life, we may not be as healthy as we would like, our faculties may not be as sharp as they once were and there may even be many others whom we may foolishly envy because of the level of their wealth or the lavishness of their lifestyle. But deep in our hearts we know this is the pettiness of human nature to which we are all prone to, no matter how much we may have. But if we look around at the world at large, and, more especially if we see ourselves in the shoes of so many of the less fortunate, we cannot but count our blessings in a thousand different ways. If we are honest with ourselves we may have to admit that we are part of that cohort that Jesus is referring to when he says to whom much has been given, of them much will be expected’. I find myself having to examine my own life in the realisation of how much I personally have been given. I wonder where I will sit in relation to the return I have made on God s generous investment in my life. Having been given so much will I be found to have given God a fair return? Such testing questions from todays gospel ! Readings

This Week: Wis 18:6-9 Heb 11:1-2, 8-19 Lk 12:32-48

Next Week: Jer 38:4-6, 8-10 Heb 12:1-4 Lk 12:49-53

The Charitable Works Collection

Once again this weekend we have one of the three annual; collections laid down for all parishes of the Archdiocese. These special collections are taken up in all of our parishes and are for the purpose of financing the various charitable and social works undertaken by the Archdiocese. Each parish is asked to raise a certain total as the result of the three collections. Our parish of The Immaculate Heart of Mary is asked to contribute to this fund annually to the tune of $13,200. What may be lacking from the three collections is made up from the parish general funds. This is seen as perhaps the fairest way of endeavouring to ensure that all of us help to carry the burden and generosity of the Archdiocese in attempting to alleviate the needs of the less fortunate within our care. I am very appreciative of the generosity of our parishioners in responding so faithfully to the many calls on their generosity. They are rarely if ever found wanting. Thank you.

Parish Council

There will be a meeting of the Parish Council on Wednesday 17th August at 7:00 pm in the Parish Oblate Room. Topics for discussion will include the continuing Church renovation and also such things as our Parish Christmas Party 2016. We are also planning to discuss the employment of two part-time Youth Leaders hopefully from within the parish community.
