Information for parents about Sunday Kids@Home Activity Booklet Each week we're planning to put together some activities for children to complete in place of Sunday Kids. These activities can be printed out and independently completed while adults are watching the sermon. There should be a range of activities which kids from K–6 can complete. If you don’t have access to a printer at home, booklets can be collected from The Factory. Please call ahead. The Sunday Kids@Home booklet follows the current sermon series. A small section of the sermon passage has been selected for the kids to focus on. After you have watched the sermon, it would be good to take some time to discuss with your child what they have learnt about God, the other characters in the story and how this passage might apply to their lives. Share with them what you learn too! If you have any suggestions or feedback on this resource, please don't hesitate to email Adam Condie: [email protected] Thank you for your patience as we adjust to these new systems. For Sunday Kids @ Home, today you will need: - A printed copy of the Sunday Kids @ Home Booklet - Coloured pencils - A bible (CEV if possible) - A stopwatch - Any craft materials you might have to decorate a Joseph’s coat - Lego (optional) - iPad to make video of NEWS report (optional) Lego Where you see a picture of a Lego Brick, it means you can make a scene from Lego!

Share what you’ve made in your service FB group! We would love your child/ren to choose the activity they are most proud of and for you to post a picture or video in your services Facebook Page. It could be something they’ve made out of Lego today, a craft or colouring in sheet. We would love for you to share with us, and each other, to help your children feel as connected as possible!

Colouring In This is Joseph (Jacob’s favourite son, Isaac’s grandson and Abraham’s great grandson). God gives Joseph two dreams that one day his family will bow down to him. This makes Joseph’s brothers very angry. Today we see what happens after the dream.

Today’s Passage – Genesis 37:1–11 (CEV) 1 Jacob lived in the land of Canaan, where his father Isaac had lived, 2 and this is the story of his family. When Jacob’s son Joseph was seventeen years old, he took care of the sheep with his brothers, the sons of Bilhah and Zilpah. But he was always telling his father all sorts of bad things about his brothers. 3 Jacob loved Joseph more than he did any of his other sons, because Joseph was born after Jacob was very old. Jacob had given Joseph a fancy coat 4 to show that he was his favourite son, and so Joseph’s brothers hated him and would not be friendly to him. 5 One day, Joseph told his brothers what he had dreamed, and they hated him even more. 6 Joseph said, “Let me tell you about my dream. 7 We were out in the field, tying up bundles of wheat. Suddenly my bundle stood up, and your bundles gathered around and bowed down to it.” 8 His brothers asked, “Do you really think you are going to be king and rule over us?” Now they hated Joseph more than ever because of what he had said about his dream. 9 Joseph later had another dream, and he told his brothers, “Listen to what else I dreamed. The sun, the moon, and eleven stars bowed down to me.” 10 When he told his father about this dream, his father became angry and said, “What’s that supposed to mean? Are your mother and I and your brothers all going to come and bow down in front of you?” 11 Joseph’s brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept wondering about the dream. Joseph’s Two Dreams In Genesis 37:1–11 Joseph had two dreams. Later when Pharaoh had two dreams, Joseph said this. “God has given you two dreams to let you know that he has definitely decided to do this and that he will do it soon” (Genesis 41:32). Draw a picture of Joseph’s two dreams or make one of both of them using Lego.

Make an acrostic poem Joseph had two dreams (Genesis 37:5 and Genesis 37:9). We learn from later on in the story that God was the one who gave him the dream. Use the letters from ‘dream’ to make an acrostic poem about what God is able to do. Family tree In our passage last week, we learnt about Jacob (God changed his name to Israel). Find Jacob in the Family Tree below and colour him in blue. Today’s passage focuses on Joseph, Jacob’s favourite son. Joseph was his favourite son because Rachel (Joseph’s mum) was Jacob’s favourite wife. (Note: How strange it is that Jacob had four wives! This caused him and his family lots of problems!). Find and colour in Joseph purple and Rachel red. In this week’s passage (Genesis 37:1–11) Joseph tells his brother about his dream. Find each of Joseph’s eleven brother and colour them in green (note Benjamin has only just been born, at this stage in the story he’s only a young boy). Find Benjamin and colour him in orange. You should have:

- Coloured Jacob (Israel) in blue - Coloured Rachel in red - Colour Joseph in purple - Colour Joseph’s eleven brother in green - Colour Benjamin in orange

Joseph’s Roller-Coaster Life - Genesis 37:1 and Genesis 41:57 Read each of the following verse summaries. Once you have read them all, plot a line graph below of what Joseph’s roller-coaster life looked like (maths style!) As a rough guide: Gen 37:3 might be 100% and Gen 37:23 might be 0%.

- Jacob gave Joseph a fancy coat (Gen 37:3). - Joseph had a dream that his family will bow down to him (Gen 37:5) - Joseph’s brothers took his coat and threw him into a dry well (37:23) - Joseph’s brothers sold him to some Midianite merchants who took him to

For those who like to write Write a NEWS article about one part of the story. What happened? How did it happen? How were people feeling? What might happen next? If you have an iPad, you could turn this into a recorded NEWS report.

Where did they come from? Where did they go? Read this section from Matthew 1. Look to see which names you can see in both Matthew 1 and Abraham’s family tree below. Jesus Christ came from the family of King David and also from the family of Abraham. And this is a list of his ancestors. From Abraham to King David, his ancestors were: Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Judah and his brothers (Judah’s sons were Perez and Zerah, and their mother was Tamar), Hezron; Ram, Amminadab, Nahshon, Salmon, Boaz (his mother was Rahab), Obed (his mother was Ruth), Jesse, and King David. Record a video of what you’ve noticed.

Colouring in – We are (still) the Light of the World

Even though we are at home now. We are still the light of the world, a town on a hill who cannot be hidden. Pray for your friends from school, that

through this time you may be able to tell them about Jesus. If you have a chance, call a friend from school and tell them about what you’ve learnt

today. Feel free to share these activities with them!
