CHANGE IS ALWAYS NEEDED Clearly, change is needed in our society. The disturbing events that we saw play out on our screens this week is all the proof we need. Change is needed in the law, in policing, in public policy, and in the citizenry. We need laws and policies that make it easier to swiftly act against police brutality. We need policies in po-lice departments and police unions that end the blue code of silence that allows bad officers with multiple vio-lations of conduct to remain on the force. We need city leaders to adopt policies that prioritize the protection of property and business in poor neighborhoods as well as in rich ones. We need to make greater efforts in the citizenry to foster better relations between law enforcement and the citizens, and to develop ways to in-crease respect for authority among our young people, especially the men and women in law enforcement that put their lives on the line every day to keep them safe.
Change is needed. But truth be told, a lot of those things I mention have been done. I know it because I played a small part in trying to bring change as a pastor in the so-called badlands of West Kensington. Our parish was involved in community organizing and intensive policing, where we focused on safety and quality of life issues in the neighborhood. District captains, lieutenants and city representatives attended neighbor-hood meetings in the churches, where they answered questions, heard complaints and explained their strate-gies. Catholic Social Services was active with Beneficial Bank in renovating twenty abandoned homes and making them available at an affordable price. Local clergy, accompanied by the police, rallied together and went from door to door to encourage residents to take advantage of city services, to speak up (anonymously if necessary) when they saw something, and to pray on the street corners for the families who lived there. In the 24th & 25th Districts clergy did “ride-alongs” in cruisers as a way to get to know the police officers and to be supportive of them. I am sure that such efforts by good, dedicated people continue to take place today in the inner city neighborhoods of Philadelphia. And yet, Philadelphia erupted in riots and burned last week.
The change that is needed to foster peace and justice must be ongoing at every level. We cannot pass a law, participate in a march, and elect new leaders and think that the problem is solved. It will never be completely solved this side of heaven, because human beings are sinners. Accepting this reality, we realize that the most important change that is needed is in the heart. Good laws, policies, sensitivity training, and an abun-dance of social services will not transform a city and make it just without an ongoing change of hearts. As good and necessary as they might be, programs and regulations cannot heal self-hatred, prejudice, despair and anger. The healing must come from God. Too many social activists, in my opinion, ignore this reality. What is needed is a change of heart, and the power to change hearts is of God. When a person has a seri-ous encounter with Jesus Christ, he or she can no longer look upon others as enemies, obstacles or sources of exploitation. God has the power to undo bad human formation, to heal painful memories, to renew a per-son’s self-worth, and to move him or her to forgiveness. He can heal and liberate both the victims of racism and its perpetrators. When a human being accepts God in the heart, he or she no longer looks at a man or woman as black or white, as rich or poor, as educated or ignorant, but first and foremost as a person of infi-nite worth.
Differences matter, of course, and they are willed by God. But they should not enter into our fundamental val-ue judgments about another person. Cardinal Bevilacqua wrote in a pastoral letter on racism twenty-two years ago that “Differences in races need to be valued. Jesus, however, calls us to transcend the differences of races and find our true human identity in our unique but common human nature.” Experiences, upbringing and environment have a powerful effect on a person’s world view. They do not, however, have to determine it. St. Paul wrote, “From now on, therefore, we regard no one from a human point of view” (2 Cor 5:16). The grace of God is able to heal the pain and deformation of bad experiences and upbringing and negative socie-tal influence. Cardinal Bevilacqua asked, “Why, after all this time and after so much effort, is the grave evil of racism still so much with us? Our Lord's answer remains the same. It is only through a more profound com-munion with God achieved through prayer and sacrifice that we can truly be healed of this evil.”
Change will always be needed because human beings are imperfect and they create imperfect conditions in institutions and society. The change that is needed more than anything is an ongoing conversion of heart that is prompted by the Holy Spirit. If this does not happen, all our efforts at improvement will fail.

SUNDAY, JUNE 7, 2020 | THE MOST HOLY TRINITY
ENTRANCE ANTIPHON
Blest be God the Father, and the Only Begotten Son of God, and also the Holy Spirit, for he has shown us his merciful love.
FIRST READING EX 34:4B-6, 8-9
Early in the morning Moses went up Mount Sinai as the LORD had commanded him, taking along the two stone tablets. Having come down in a cloud, the LORD stood with Moses there and proclaimed his name, "LORD." Thus the LORD passed before him and cried out, "The LORD, the LORD, a merciful and gracious God, slow to anger and rich in kindness and fidelity." Moses at once bowed down to the ground in worship. Then he said, "If I find favor with you, O Lord, do come along in our company. This is indeed a stiff-necked people; yet pardon our wickedness and sins, and receive us as your own."
SECOND READING 2 COR 13:11-13
Brothers and sisters, rejoice. Mend your ways, encourage one another, agree with one another, live in peace, and the God of love and peace will be with you. Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the holy ones greet you. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with all of you.
GOSPEL JN 3:16-18
God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him will not be condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
COMMUNION ANTIPHON
Since you are children of God, God has sent into your hearts the Spirit of his Son, the Spirit who cries out: Abba, Father.
The Nicene Creed
I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

THANK YOU!! WELCOME BACK! OFFERTORY COLLECTION THROUGH MAY 24, 2020
For the 2019 - 2020 fiscal year our budget-ed Offertory income goal is $722,000. This is $150,000 less than needed to balance the overall parish budget. That deficit will be made up by the Annual Parish Appeal. Our offertory financial support during the week of May 17 was $2,247 under the budgeted amount. More than seventy-two percent of our regular weekly donors con-tributed. Despite the shutdown, our offer-tory collection is about two and a half percent ahead of our budgeted amount. Thank you. Keep up the good work.

This Summer, would you be able to spend an hour in Adoration?
With Thanksgiving to God, we will begin Eucharistic Adoration in the Main Church on
June 22nd, maintaining social distancing.
God who loves us more than we can comprehend desires personal time with you. Come just as you are. No special prayers or actions are required, just your love and devo-tion to the Lord.
The Eucharistic Adoration team needs your help to make sure that there is coverage at every hour. (Monday-Friday, after morning Mass until 7 pm) To sign-up or for questions, contact Mary Wharton by email, text or phone at [email protected], 302-388-3752.
Compassionate and Loving Father, In the face of confusion and concern
impart to us the calm of Your presence. In You allow us to find hope and healing.
Be with those who serve the sick and give them Your caring hands. Be with those who lead and give them Your spirit of wisdom. Be with those who have
fallen ill and give them Your comforting heart. Wrap Your arms around our world and hold us in
Your love. Allow us at this time of trial to then serve as instruments of that love to all we meet.
We ask this in Your Name. Amen.

Rest in Peace
Monsignor John W. Graf
Monsignor John W. Graf, our Pastor Emeritus, passed away suddenly on Sunday, May 24, 2020.
Monsignor was Pastor for more than twenty years. He was truly loved and cherished by many of our parishioners. He celebrated the Sacraments of Baptism, Communion, Reconciliation, Confirmation, and Matrimony with joy and compassion. Under his guidance, our parish began weekly Eucharistic Adoration.
As part of his legacy, our church on 300 State Road was designed, built and dedicated during Monsignor’s tenure as Pastor. His leadership and direction was vital to the Pastoral Council and Parish Finance Council during the development and implementation stages of our beautiful church.
Funeral arrangements are private. A Memorial Mass at Assumption BVM in West Grove will be celebrated for Monsignor Graf in the near future once the state restrictions have been lifted.
Monsignor was a strong advocate for Catholic education. His support for the school was relentless. A Memorial Scholarship will be set-up in Monsignor Graf's name and will be used to support families enrolled in ABVM School who have financial need. Monsignor Graf loved our Parish School and worked with many families to make Catholic Education a reality.

June 16 at 7:00 PM Event: Zoom Presentation: Padre Pio and Pandemics
In the current COVID-19 pandemic, the faithful have been turning to St. Padre Pio—one of the world’s most prayed to saints—for healing. But did you know that Padre Pio’s ministry was directly connected to our last great worldwide pandemic, the Spanish Flu? In honor of the anniversary of Padre Pio’s canonization on June 16, join West Chester University professor and anthropologist, Dr. Mi-chael A. Di Giovine, for a discussion on the connec-tion between St. Pio’s stigmata, the pressures of his early popularity, and the Spanish flu. He will also talk about St. Pio’s devotion to Our Lady of Fatima, to whom he turned when struck with illness. Dr.Di Giovine, a parishioner of SS Peter and Paul Parish who has conducted decades of research on the saint, will also pray with us for St. Pio’s blessing through one of his relics. How to join: To access the meeting, you need to download the Zoom app on your computer or smartphone. After you do that, just click on the link below at the time of the event. The Adoration Chapel will remain closed to all activities and gatherings during the Yellow Phase,
except for Confessions on Saturday.
The Adoration Chapel may not be used for a cry room. The narthex (aka “foyer”) may be used.
DURING MASS
A collection will be taken up during the Offertory as usual using long-handled baskets.
There will be no Sign of Peace during Mass during the Yellow Phase.
There should be no holding of hands during the Our Father.

RECEPTION OF HOLY COMMUNION
There will be three Communion stations at the front of the church. A single file line should be
formed in the aisles. Please note that the Archbishop has suspended the offering of Communion
from a chalice.
Please maintain social distancing in the Communion line. Please keep several pews between yourself and the person in front of you while in line and when returning to your pew.
Remove mask immediately before receiving Holy Communion. Bow, receive Communion in the
hand, step aside six feet, consume the Host, and cover with your mask before returning to the
pew.
As is our custom, Communion will be brought to anyone who cannot easily come to the front of
church.
Please follow the instructions of the ushers regarding when to leave pew.
Gloves should not be worn when receiving Holy Communion.
Communion should be received on the hand if at all possible; anyone who feels they cannot re-
ceive on the hand must receive at the center aisle from the priest, who is required to sanitize his
hands after every reception of Communion on the tongue.
Please note that no one is required to receive Holy Communion when attending Mass and should ab-
stain if he or she cannot receive it comfortably due to any circumstances, including COVID-19 con-
cerns and the directives of the Archbishop of Philadelphia.
As always, everyone must confess serious or mortal sin before receiving Holy Communion.
EXITING THE CHURCH
At the conclusion of Mass, please exit the Church and proceed directly to your car. Please do not congregate for any reason.
Please take a parish bulletin home with you.
Anyone who would like a bulletin mailed to them may contact the parish office at 610-869-2722 or
[email protected]. It will also be available on our parish webpage.
Please leave your mask on until you exit the Church.

ADDITIONAL IMPORTANT MESSAGES
If you notice someone who is not following the directives do not correct or confront them but bring it to the
attention of an usher.
Please follow the instructions of the ushers at all times.
The parish office will re-open as of June 8th. Hours are: Monday thru Friday from 8 a.m. to 12 noon and 1
p.m. to 4 p.m.
Confessions continue on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
Prayer groups, Bible studies, communal rosaries and other activities may be celebrated in the church and the
Parish Life Center. Masks must be worn, and social separation must be observed. Beverages in single
serve containers are approved but no food is permitted. The leader or coordinator of the group is asked to
contact Father Scott for permission to meet in the church building.
The Archbishop will lift some of the restrictions indicated above when the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
declares a Green Phase for Chester County. An official announcement will be made at that time.
Please remember to pray for the sick and all who are “shut in.” We will not be able to bring Holy Commun-
ion on Sunday to residences until the Green Phase.
Please make a phone call or send a card to someone you know who might feel alone during this time.
Thank you for observing these directives. May God bless all of us!
