A year of Prayer: A reflection on “Being a Missionary
Disciple In Your Parish”
It is the desire of the bishop that we become “a
mission-oriented Church that forms disciples of Jesus”. Being a
missionary disciple in our Parish, there are certain areas that the
bishop wants us to explore for a greater fruitfulness. Seek a
renewal of the Faith we proclaim and a personal
relationship with God—No matter how good you are in
playing golf you need a constant practice to keep up with the
level of playing. This is applicable to every sport and all walk of
life. We need to renew our faith by celebrating it through our
constant presence at the liturgical and other spiritual gatherings
of God’s faithful as a parish community. When we see our fellow
brothers and sisters in their quest for God, this can be a source
of inspiration and motivation to develop a more personal
relationship with God knowing fully that we are not alone on the
journey of faith. We can not live in isolation from one another in
the faith. It is not about competition, but support for one
another on the journey to Salvation. We can create time to have a
conversation with Jesus as a personal friend in prayer. He longs
for our attention as a loving and caring friend.
Full, active and attentive participation at each Mass—To
have a full, active and attentive participation at the celebration of
the Mass begins with our own preparation for the mass. Going
to Mass is not like going to sports arena or other places you may
think of. It is entering into the heavenly realm here on earth to
encounter the Lord in the community of faith, in the Scriptures,
in the Eucharist and in the Priest who is the ‘alter Christus’. It is
a spiritual gathering that has no equal and it requires a spiritual
preparation. “But in order that the liturgy may be able to produce
its full effects, it is necessary that the faithful come to it with
proper dispositions, that their minds should be attuned to their
voices, and that they should cooperate with the divine grace lest
they receive it in vain… that the faithful take part fully aware of
what they are doing, actively engaged in the rite, and enriched by
its effects” (Vatican II: Sacrosanctum Concilium, no. 11). It is the
celebration of the redemptive love of Christ along with other
brethren who profess one faith in God. To be continued….
We congratulate some of our children receiving their first Holy
Communion today. We thank their families and friends for their
support and guidance. May the Lord make his home with them
in their hearts and grant them the fullness of joy. Amen.
Fr. Augustine
This weekend , we celebrate Corpus Christi (Body and
Blood of Christ). It is a Eucharistic solemnity, which is
the commemoration of the institution of the Eucharist.
Below is a prayer that we can each reflect upon on this Special Day.
We thank You Jesus, for coming upon the earth for our sake, and
for instituting the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist in order to
remain with us until the end of the world.
We thank You for hiding beneath the Eucharistic species Your
infinite majesty and beauty, which Your Angels delight to behold .
We thank You, most loving Jesus, for having made Yourself our
food, and for uniting each one of us to You.
We thank You Jesus, for giving Yourself to us in this Blessed
Sacrament, and so enriching it with the treasures of Your love for
us. We thank You not only for becoming our food but also for
offering Yourself as a continual sacrifice to Your Eternal Father for
our salvation.
Finally, we thank You Jesus, for offering Yourself in thanksgiving
to God for all His benefits, spiritual and temporal, which He has
bestowed upon us.
Let us pray.
God our Father, for Your glory and our salvation You appointed
Jesus Christ eternal High Priest. May the people He gained for You
by His Blood come to share in the power of His Cross and
Resurrection by celebrating His Memorial in this Eucharist, for He
lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever.
Amen.
Have a blessed week.
