Christ Jesus, we give thanks with broken bread and cup of blessing, may your food strengthen us for our journey.

Christ Jesus, your Eucharist is a sign of love, may the poor and outcasts find a place at your table. Christ Jesus, you are the bread that fills the longing of our

hearts, may this bread deepen our longing for justice, Christ Jesus, you are the wine that satisfies our thirst for holiness, may this wine deepen our desire for You. Amen

OLV CYO Fall 2020 Sports Registration Open through June 30

2 0 2 0 - 2 0 2 1  O L V C Y O F a l l S p o r t s Registration  is now open at www.OLVAthletics.com  for incoming students and parishioners in grades 3-8 who are  interested in playing OLV CYO  Cross Country, Cheer, and Volleyball.   Football teams are combined with Our Lady of Sorrows and other neighboring parishes. Registration for CYO Northwest Catholic team can be completed at www.nwcatholicfootball.com.   See age  specifications and the rules of each sport next to each  sport under the  registration tab at www.OLVAthletics.com.   For planning purposes, we ask that all   Registrations are completed by  June 30, 2020.   The sooner we have commitments from players, the easier it is to solidify teams and secure our coaching staff.   Pending COVID-19 and government updates, practices are expected to start in the second week of August. Number of teams and grade composition of each team will be determined by number of registrants. Registration does not guarantee a position on a team and try-outs may be conducted if the number of registrants exceeds the number of openings.   A student must submit a current  health status/physical (dated after April 15, 2020) to be eligible and considered for a team prior to the first practice, along with full payment of the registration fee.   Visit www.OLVAthletics.com  to register.  Online payment is expected at the time of registration via credit (VISA, MC) or debit card. No account necessary and no checks accepted.  If the season or a team is cancelled for any reason, refunds will be electronically processed.   If you are interested in coaching any of these sports, please read the Coaches Info requirements on the left menu at  www.OLVAthletics.com  and apply online  under Player-Coach Registration. Coaching positions are assigned on an annual basis.

Our sacraments are “Doors to the Sacred” that we celebrate with distinct rituals each expressing a profound moment of God’s Grace in our lives. Each is a significant moment in our lives when we are in touch with the sacred realities that lie at the heart of faith and that move us to what lies beyond. In our Roman Catholic tradition, we celebrate 7 Sacraments or ritual actions in which we believe that grace, each in its way, is experienced:

• Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Eucharist, Confirmation • Sacraments of Healing: Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick • Sacraments of Service: Matrimony, Holy Orders

How Does OLV Celebrate the Sacraments?

MINISTRYSPOTLIGHT:COMMUNION

Communion is not simply about the act of partaking, but also about living a life which remembers the sacrifice of Jesus. Over the past few months, we had the opportunity to reflect on the importance of Mass, in particular, the significance of Communion in our lives. According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church (1324), the Eucharist is the “source and summit” of Christian life. It is what links us to the divine life and unites the People of God as Church. By receiving our Lord in Body and Blood, it not only unifies us with Him, but transforms us.

This time of physical absence from our Lord in the Holy Eucharist should have made us more aware of our true intentions. Receiving Jesus is a very intimate act of love; are we prepared for that? What is your relationship with Him that makes you want to be in communion with Him every week? Are you in love with Him? Are you in like with Him? Or are you not really sure how you feel about Him? With any relationship it takes time. Your best friend didn’t become your best friend overnight. And your BFF knows you best because of all the time you spend together getting to know each other. Your relationship with Jesus should be no less. What kind of time do you spend with Jesus in scripture and in prayer? The more time we spend on our relationship with Jesus, the deeper and more meaningful the Eucharist will have for us.

In a few short weeks our second graders will be taking that next step to a closer relationship with Jesus by encountering Him in the Eucharist. As parents, we need to begin teaching our children how to develop and nurture this relationship so it can withstand a lifetime of challenges as well as reflect a lifetime of service. The first is just the beginning of many beautiful encounters to come.

Please keep our First Communicants and their families in your prayers as they prepare to enter into a deeper more meaningful relationship with Jesus during the most challenging time.
