THE THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT

The Third Sunday of Advent is known as Gaudete Sunday. Gaudete, translated from the Latin

antiphon for the opening of this Mass, meaning “rejoice”, is taken from St. Paul’s Letter to the

Philippians 4:4-5 “Rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say rejoice! The Lord is near.” Yes, we

rejoice as we know the nearness of the Lord’s coming, not only at Christmas, but even in the

mysteries of our daily lives. In Isaiah 61:11, the prophet gives us another reason for rejoicing for:

“As the earth brings forth its plants, and a garden makes its growth spring up, so will the Lord God make justice and

praise spring up before all the nations.” Let us be instruments of that justice as we treat one another rightly and be

instruments of praise as we give God glory and honor in our worship. Give thanks to the Lord for the many ways that

Jesus has blessed your life and then rejoice and act accordingly. May your face shine with joy!

PRAYER TO OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE

As we celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe on Dec. 12th, this weekend, I offer you this prayer which St. John

Paul II offered to Our Lady in 1979 at Puebla, Mexico:

O Immaculate Virgin Mother of the true God and Mother of the Church! You, who from this place revealed

your clemency and your pity to all those who ask for your protection; hear the prayer that we address to

you with filial trust, and present it to your Son Jesus, our sole Redeemer. Mother of mercy, Teacher of

hidden and silent sacrifice, to you, who come to meet us sinners, we dedicate on this day all our being and

all our love. We also dedicate to you our life, our work, our joys, our infirmities and our sorrows. Grant

peace, justice and prosperity to our peoples; for we entrust to your care all that we have and all that we

are, Our Lady and Mother. We wish to be entirely yours and to walk with you along the way of complete

faithfulness to Jesus Christ in his Church. Hold us always with your loving hand. Virgin of Guadalupe, Mother of the

Americas, we pray to you for all the bishops, that they may lead the faithful along paths of intense Christian life, of love

and humble service of God and souls. Contemplate this immense harvest and intercede with the Lord that He may instill

a hunger for holiness in the whole People of God, and grant abundant vocations of priests and religious, strong in faith

and zealous dispensers of God’s mysteries. Grant to our homes the grace of loving and respecting life in its beginnings

with the same love with which you conceived in your womb the life of the Son of God. Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of

Fair Love, protect our families so that they may be united and bless the upbringing of our children.... Thus, Most Holy

Mother, with the peace of God in our conscience, with our hearts free from evil and hatred, we will be able to bring to

all true joy and true peace, which come to us from your Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, who with God the Father and the

Holy Spirit, lives and reigns for ever and ever. Amen.

ORDINATION OF FR. ANTHONY EZEAPUTA

The Archdiocese announces the upcoming priestly ordination of Deacon Anthony Ezeaputa, stationed at Our

Lady of Fatima Church here in Albuquerque. The Ordination to the Priesthood will take place at the Cathedral

Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi Dec. 19th at 10:00 a.m. Please keep our ordinand in your prayers.

CASA ANGELICA COLLECTION

We will take up our annual collection for Casa Angelica next weekend, Dec. 19-20. Casa Angelica is a home for

profoundly disabled children whom the Canossian Sisters have served since its foundation in 1967.

Annunciation Parish has an equally long history of helping these dear children through our association with the

Canossian Sisters and their mission of serving those most in need. As we await the celebration of the birth of the

most precious Child Jesus, I invite you to join in supporting the work of Casa Angelica. Your gift combined with

those of your fellow parishioners makes a world of difference in the lives of Casa Angelica’s little ones. Thanks to our

Canossian Sisters for continuing this blessed ministry in our day!
