OBLIGATION TO ATTEND MASS Bishop McKnight has dispensed us from

the obligation to attend Sunday Mass

and Holy Days of Obligation until

September 11, 2020, provided that we

do one of the following:

† Watch a live-streamed Mass

from our parish, the Cathedral or

the Vatican, or

† Read and meditate on the Mass

readings of the day and pray the

rosary or the Divine Mercy Chaplet

The daily readings can be found at: http://usccb.org/bible/readings/071420.cfm

Those who are 65 years of age or older

and those with medical conditions are

highly encouraged not to go to Mass

when it is likely that there will be a large

number of the faithful in attendance or

if social distancing and the wearing of

face masks are not observed.

Next weekend I will be out of town

for a wedding. Please welcome

Fr. Jones back to the parish.

PARISH NEWS AND EVEN TS

PARISH SCHOOL NEWS

RCIA Are you, or do you know someone who

has expressed an interest in becoming

Catholic, who has a child over the age

of seven who has not been baptized,

was baptized Catholic as a child, but

has not celebrated the sacraments of

Confirmation and Eucharist, or is

interested in learning more about our

faith?

Our parish of St. Martin will be starting a

Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults

(RCIA) group very soon to help those

wanting to come into the faith, receive

Sacraments, or just learn more about

the faith. We will have two inquiry

sessions for those who would like some

more information about the process of

becoming Catholic and setting up

further meeting times on: Thursday

August 27th and Sunday, August 30th at

6 pm in the Cafeteria/Church

basement. (You only need to attend

one). If you or someone you know

would like more information please feel

free to contact Mark McGuire

at [email protected] or the parish

office.

PSR Registration is open for the PSR (Parish

School of Religion) Program. Watch the

bulletin for more details as they become

available. Registration forms are

available in the back of church.

Contact Mark McGuire at

[email protected] or the parish

office if you have questions.

CONFIRMATION Our next Confirmation Program will

be open to those in 7th-9th grade in

the 2020-2021 school year and any

other high school students who have

not yet been confirmed. Watch the

bulletin for more information.

THANK YOU Thank you to everyone who helped

make our Totus Tuus summer camp a

success. We appreciate those who

brought food for our missionaries and we

especially appreciate all of those who

attended the camp. Hopefully this was

a fun way to learn more about and

practice your faith with old and new

friends. See you next year!

It has been five long months since our

parish campus has had the laughter and

excitement of children but in three

weeks the children will be back and

school will resume. PRAISE JESUS! The

faculty and I have spent the majority of

the summer planning and working on

how the school day might look. We have

discussed many different scenarios from

the cleaning and disinfecting of personal

space to readjusting instructional

methods to meet the classroom and

virtual demands that we might face. To

say the least it has been a daunting task.

I am proud of every staff member. They

have worked tirelessly to ensure we

create the most academically, spiritually,

safe environment for all the students and

staff.

The global Coronavirus pandemic has

introduced a new level of risk for

in-person instruction and in-person

gatherings. Therefore, it is unfortunate

that this year we will need to restrict entry

into the school building to only staff and

students. If anyone needs to visit during

the day, they will be asked to follow

these protocols: make an appointment;

have their temperature checked and

complete a health survey. No

unannounced visitors will be allowed in

the classrooms. I am sad to say, we will

also be limiting volunteers to "no student

contact" jobs, such as helping prep food

in our lunch program. Volunteers have

always added such joy to our school

environment, it is sad that they cannot

be a part of our community this year. We

look forward to the day we can

welcome them back with open-arms.

If you would like to read the school's

complete Reopening Plan it is on the

school's website: https://

stmartin.diojeffcity.org/school/.

Thank you so much for your continued

trust, feedback, support, and prayers.

Your positive energy and the AMAZING

kids of this parish keep our faculty

moving forward. We really can't wait to

get our new year started. Our first day of

school is Wednesday, Aug. 19!
