Create templates using plastic template material. Make one for each template located on the two template pages. For hand piecers, use the solid lines on the templates that represent sewing lines. For machine piecers, use the dotted lines on the templates that represent cutting lines. Mark and cut out all pieces for the blocks. Make sure to reverse each piece following directions on templates. Instructions are for one block. Make two blocks for quilt.

Sew strips as shown. Press seams in direction of arrows.

Sew strips together as shown, pivoting gently at intersection of bottom of the E pieces and stopping 1/2” from top of the C pieces. Press seam open. Make 3 sections.

Crane Applique Instructions

Cut square around the cranes to be used on the quilt. Fuse Wonder-web to the

cranes. Fuse onto background as shown on picture of quilt. Finish edge with either buttonhole stitch or by stitching along the edge of the cranes.

Assembly Instructions

-angles from the dark part of the indigo fabric. Sew two rectangles together on the long side. Make two. Sew one of these units to the top of each Setting Sun Block. Press seam open.

Cut four 18 1/2” x 1 1/2” strips from the black sashing fabric. Sew these strips onto the sides of the three blocks. Sew the blocks together. Press seams open.

Measure quilt horizontally. Cut the black strip by the measurement just made x 1 1/2”. Sew to top and bottom of quilt.
