The Costume Room hasmoved! The new location is on the 3rd floor of the library. We are excited about this move because it has been a great opportunity to really organize all of the costumes and accessories in one place! Shelves are be-ing installed and the fun of finding a new home for everything has begun. We look forward to assisting students with their costume needs for all the upcoming plays. If you would like to sign up to volunteer, please call me Patti Parker @499-7117 or email [email protected].

Update by Ellen Bassett - Auction Publicity Team

Over the summer, while many of us were out enjoying the scorching heat, our excellent Auction leaders: Robi Brath, Dianne Neal-Blixt and Nancy Osborn were meeting to plan the exciting 2011 Summit Auction taking place on March 19, 2011. Auction Chair Nan-cy says, “We’ve taken into consideration the comments that Summit parents made on the spring survey and we’re designing this year’s auction to reflect those great ideas.”

The goal of the 2011 Auction is to support the gap in the Learning that Lasts Forever Capital Campaign. The campaign, which be-gan in 2007, has raised $10.5 million toward a $13.5 million goal. So all the money raised at the event this year will get us one step clos-er to the goal and parents will have a little fun at the same time! Auction Chair Dianne says, “we want to plan a great event that cel-ebrates what has already been achieved and moves the campaign closer to the finish line.”

The theme of the event is going to be re-vealed soon and we can tell you already - it’s going to be incredible. Several pre-parties are being planned, including one at Corporate Solicitation Chairs Scottie and David Neill’s house on Thursday, October 14. Robi says, “Our theme this year is going to be very fun and festive. It’s an acknowledgment of how far we’re come and how many good things there are going on at Summit now. Our fami-lies, our staff and our facilities and programs are all something to be celebrated.”

Look for some changes in the way the silent auction and raffle are being organized this year as well. Many auction items will be avail-able on-line for bidding before the big event in March. More on that to come ...

Volunteers from every grade will be helping to put on this mammoth school-wide event. Fourth grade mom, Betsy Wisenbakeris in charge of putting together the auction cata-logue. For the first time, the catalogue will be online-only. This will not only save time and money, it’s what 90% of survey respon-dents said they favored.

Elizabeth Hollan will be using her creativity to oversee the class projects while Grace Broughton and Janet Jones will be planning the fabulous food for the event.

Sixth-grade mom, Sarah McAuley, will be heading up the Auction raffle this year while Kathy Blackard will be looking for artists to help her with the Grandparent Valentine.

Joanne Coggins, Mary Lynn Sullivan, Angela Winterle and Robin Woodard have signed on to be our Solicitations Team. These ladies are already looking for Auction items that will raise lots of money and get the bidding going. If you happen to be Oprah Winfrey’s other best friend or have box seats to the Panthers, well, they’ll definitely want to talk to you. Summit School is incredibly grateful for the generosity of ALL the individuals and local businesses that contribute to our Auction.

Rebecca McKee and LaTonya Richardson will

be lifting weights this fall in preparation for their role as Set-Up Chairs.

Sixth-grade super dad, Guy Arcuri, will be in charge of transportation this year (and no, that does not mean Guy is the designated driver for the entire school on Auction night) while two very talented moms Sally Corpening and Ginny Thomas will be work-ing on the Decorations for the event. Many of you will remember the incredible paper flowers that Sally and her team created for the auction a couple of years ago.

Susie Tickle and Lisa Carter will be our Auction Treasurers and provide a great example of why Summit students need to excel in math.

And finally, your Publicity Team includes my-self, Elliott Turner and Shannon Wilson. Our job is to spread the word about all the in-credibly exciting events that are going to be happening during this Auction year. We’ll put information on Summit’s Facebook page, send out some Tweets, send invitations in the mail, use Evite, put news in the Matterhorn and send out info in the Thursday folders.

The Auction Chairs are ALWAYS looking for volunteers - so if you haven’t joined a com-mittee, now is the time.

Thanks everyone and we’re off and running! Note: If you have ideas or you’d like to vol-unteer, please e-mail: Robi ([email protected]), Dianne ([email protected]) or Nancy ([email protected])

The School Store is located next to the Parents’ Association of-fice on the ground floor of the T/LC- is open for business every day that school is in session.

This year we are very excited to launch a true partnership with the 9th grade that will allow the students to take on the role of lead volunteer each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning as part of their campus service commitment. In order to facilitate this worthwhile endeavor, we will be open as follows: Mondays and Fridays from 7:45 - 8:15am; Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 7:50 - 8:10am

Please Note: We still need Monday/Friday volunteers! Please contact Betsy Wisenbaker ([email protected] or 778- 2905) if you can help.

Update by Ellen Bassett, Ea$y Money Chair

Your Ea$y Money Committee is fired up to help Summit raise some cash. How can you help? We’d love for each of you to do four relatively easy things: 1) Start clipping Box Tops for Education; 2) Re-link your Harris-Teeter V.I.C. card to Summit School #1075; 3) Pull off your Campbell’s soup labels 4) Send your Box Tops and soup labels back to School. Here’s a little information for you:

BoxTops:We’ve decided to focus our efforts on Box Tops for Education this year because well, it’s really easy and those little (pink) Box Tops add up to a lot of money quickly. We’re psyched to make some easy money with Box Tops and we need you on the Summit team! Here’s what we’re doing:

1) We’ve bought new Box Top Collection Boxes that you’ll see around the school.

2) We’re going to start putting some fun “Collec-tion Pages” in the Thursday Folders – You simply cut out the little pink Box Tops, stick them on with tape and put the completed page in a collection box.

3) We’re asking everyone to go to www.boxtops-4education.com and sign up to track Summit’s prog-ress.

4) We’re going to start awarding prizes for top indi-vidual collector and top classroom. So the race is on!

HarrisTeeter:If you have a Harris Teeter V.I.C. card, it’s time to re-link it. Summit’s number is 1075. If you forget, don’t worry. You can now re-link online by going to the Harris Teeter website. And if you really have too much going on, let me just link it for you: e-mail me at [email protected] with your V.I.C. number, your first name and last name and I’ll do the rest. One more thing – please ask your neigh-bors, friends and grandparents to link their cards to Summit as well. You’d be surprised how much money we can earn just be re-linking these cards.

Campbell’sSoupLabels:We are still going to collect Campbell’s Soup Labels this year. Just put them in any of the collection boxes around school.

Look for more news about Ea$y Money in your Thursday folder. If you have any questions or com-ments, please e-mail me at [email protected]. Thanks, everyone!

The Office Support Team Needs You!Looking for a fun and easy volunteer job? Join the Office Support Team. We help with occasional projects such as copying and distributing the Matterhorn, distributing yearbooks, and performing other helpful tasks as needed. We also provide lunchtime office coverage enabling Martha Thompson and Cecelia Cauble to take a well-deserved lunch break. This volunteer opportunity is a great way to get to know Summit’s wonderful staff and administrators. And you can even schedule your office shift so that you also can have lunch with your child. What could be better than that? To learn more, or to join the group, contact Pam Bond at [email protected].
