“We’ve had an
amazing 5th year in
Logan. Loganites are
so welcoming and
friendly and there is
so much to do! The
classes were
wonderful.”
-- Summer Citizen
SUMMERTIME Welcome back to Logan! Summer is in full swing, and we
couldn’t be more excited! Many of our Summer Citizens
have already started to roll into Logan, so let the fun
begin! There are already so many activities going on,
check our website to stay updated on community and
program events.
Make sure you come to see us in the Eccles Conference
Center once you’ve gotten settled into your new
apartment. (See the map on page 7 of the program book
to find us.) Our offices are in the basement of the
Conference Center. We’ll have a welcome packet, a
coupon book, and a parking pass for you when you
come!
We hope you are ready for a fun summer with friends and
lots of new memories! We’re glad you’ve come to beat
the heat in beautiful Cache Valley.
In 2008, CacheARTs’ director Wally Bloss offered Wendi a side project to
research the history of the Ellen Eccles Theatre. She totally went down the
rabbit hole and emerged from Utah State University’s special collections
months later with a greater appreciation for the visionary investment of
Cache Valley’s founders in their cultural facilities and a hunger to know more.
She’s been collecting stories ever since. She looks forward to sharing them,
and probably picking up a few new ones in the new class “History of the Arts
in Cache Valley.” Wendi Hassan directs the Cache Valley Center for the Arts,
the designated local arts agency for Logan City and Cache County. They
manage three theaters in Cache Valley. When she’s not at the theatre,
Wendi is knitting, reading, or hanging out with her husband Dennis and her
four grown children, three of whom still live in Cache Valley. Wendi will teach
one class this summer: “History of the Arts in Cache Valley”.
Peg Neuber learned to knit in the 1970’s at an adult education
class and hasn’t stopped since. She has taught knitting at 2 yarn
shops and for Logan City Schools. She also spends time
working and teaching at Knit Unique Yarn Shop in Logan. She
has been a member of Northern Utah Fibers Artisans Guild for
35 years. She also spins her own yarn when she wants to take a
break from knitting.
Peggy will be teaching one class this summer: “Learn to
Knit”.
Terri Wesemann is a USU graduate student pursuing a dual master’s degree in
American Studies specializing in Folklore and Technical Communication. She
instructs a technical communication class and is collaborating with the Hill
Aerospace Museum on a World War II nose art exhibit. She has fond memories of
vacations where her family camped at National Parks around the country, which
inspired her interest in American history, the people, and culture. She has lived in
11 different states and traveled to 49 of the 50 states. She interned in the History of
Aviation in America class where she helped develop a new curriculum and
co-taught the Summer Citizen’s class on the History of Aviation in America. Terri is
married to a pilot and has spent half her life around aviation. Terri has lived in
Logan for three years and enjoys walking her Siberian Husky every day and wishes
for more time to read for pleasure. She has four boys, two of which are active duty
Air Force and two that work in computer science.
Terri will be teaching two classes this summer: “Traveling Across America
with Classic Literature” and “Soaring Through the Decades with Aviation
Films”.
“Writing the poets of Logan” class with Utah poet laureate
Star Coulbrooke. This is a unique opportunity to study and
write poetry with published poet and laureate for Logan,
Utah.
Class participants will have a chance to write and critique
some of their own poetry as well.
Don’t miss this amazing opportunity! The class will be $50,
the late fee will not apply to this class. Call our office to
register today! We will be taking registrations for this class
until June 11.
