Summer School Credit Courses for Current Grade 8 Students July 27 – August 21, 2020 (REVISED) 8:00 am – 2:00 pm Summer School Credit Courses ALC1O – Integrated Arts This course integrates two or more of the arts (dance, drama, media arts, music, and visual arts), giving students the opportunity to produce and present integrated art works created individually or collaboratively. Students will demonstrate innovation as they learn and apply concepts, styles, and conventions unique to the various arts and acquire skills that are transferable beyond the classroom. Students will use the creative process and responsible practices to explore solutions to integrated arts challenges. Prerequisite: none BTT1O – Business Information Technology This course introduces students to the use of information technology in a business environment. Students will learn how to use information technology in a work environment, perform electronic research, communicate electronically, and use common business software. They will also explore possible future occupations in information technology. Prerequisite: none Summer School’s most popular course PAF2O – Health & Physical Education (DM, HC, LC) An introductory course that emphasizes a variety of physical activities that promote lifelong healthy active living. Learn movement principles to refine skills, enhance personal competence, fitness and health, examine issues related to healthy eating, substance use and abuse and the use of informed decision-making, conflict resolution and social skills in making personal choices. Prerequisite: none PAI 2O – Health and Physical Education (BT, SM, ND) An introductory course that emphasizes regular participation in a variety of enjoyable physical activities that promote lifelong healthy active living in a competitive environment. Through the achievement of the Ministry and the Ontario Catholic School Graduate expectations the student will apply movement principles to refine skills; participate in a variety of activities that enhance personal competence, fitness, and health; examine issues related to healthy sexuality, healthy eating, substance use and abuse; and apply informed decision-making, conflict resolution, and social skills in making personal choices. Prerequisite: none FSF1D - Core French (Academic) This course provides opportunities for students to communicate and interact in French with increasing independence, with a focus on familiar topics related to their daily lives. Students will develop their skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing by using language-learning strategies introduced in the elementary Core French program, and will apply creative and critical thinking skills in various ways. They will also enhance their understanding and appreciation of diverse French-speaking communities, and will develop skills necessary for lifelong language learning. Prerequisite: Minimum of 600 hours of French instruction, or equivalent. FSF1P – Core French (Applied) This course provides opportunities for students to communicate and interact in French in structured situations, with a focus on everyday topics, and to apply their knowledge of French in everyday situations. Students will develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills introduced in the elementary Core French program, through practical applications and concrete examples, and will use creative and critical thinking skills in various ways. They will also enhance their understanding and appreciation of diverse French-speaking communities, and will develop skills necessary for lifelong language learning. Prerequisite: Minimum of 600 hours of French instruction, or equivalent.
