The Summer Program

• Each year we get to spend a lovely time at Bridgewater State University

• Each year we hear afterwards about things you would have liked to do, and we want to get your opinions before

• With that being said there are some parameters for how you can design your own personal Upward Bound Summer Program!

Guidelines

• You are going to be given the opportunity to create your own summer program but it is important to remember there are some things that we do not have any control over.• You have to go to classes. This is not an optional part of the

program• Meal times are pretty set in stone. 7:15 Breakfast, 12:00

Lunch, 5:00 Dinner. You may be able to move them by 15 minutes, but don’t be doing much more than that

• You have to go do homework• Napping is not an activity

Guidelines

• Just because you give us a suggestion does not guarantee that we can or will use it• If you give us a suggestion that we believe is viable, than we

will do our best to fit it into the program this summer• We recognize that this is your program and we want you to

have a voice, that being said if we get something that suggests napping and 12 hours of free time we will not give it any thought.

• Take this seriously, this is your chance to give some direction to the summer program, and we would love to hear your genuine opinion.

Tell Us About Your Day

• After creating your proposed schedule we would like to hear about some of your ideas for the activities that we will run in our summer program.

• Create five activities that you would like to see run on some of your Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays

• All of these activities have to be something with value to advance you educationally, socially, or culturally

• You must explain in detail how they are run, so that in the future we will be able to utilize some of your ideas

Tell Us About Your Day

• Now that you have plotted out the day take some time to give us three of your best ideas for community service projects and field trips

• You can use ideas we have already used, but justify why you would like to do it again.

• If you write something down, be able to explain what it is. I don’t necessarily know what the name of everything is, and want to be able to do ample research.

• Explain why these activities are the best ideas for our summer program.

Parent Day Celebration

• We want to give you an opportunity to explain how you would like to celebrate with your parents

• The end of the year celebration should be a culmination of the successes we have had this summer

• With that being said we often do a talent show to exemplify our successes as a program

• If you enjoy that idea you can utilize it but you must explain why you think it is the most effective way to celebrate the end of summer

• If you would like to see something else done be sure to explain your idea, and why it is effective

• We will not accept something like we want to watch a movie because it would be fun… It needs to show off accomplishments of the students, and of the program.
