Children are growing up in a time known as the

“Touch Screen Generation”(10)

theoretically could be kept in the parents’

Now parents are handing over an iPad whenever

they don’t want to have to entertain their kid. (10)

Kids even know how to navigate an iPad BEFORE they know how to tie a shoe!

Parents want their kids to “swim expertly in the digital

stream” but also worry of the negative side effects. (10)

With constant attachment it has created cyber-bullying

Amanda Todd, a BC teen, took her life after posting a video on YouTube describing how she had been tormented by bullying online and struggling with

Those with social anxiety find it difficult to fulfill a social need of belonging because of

their fear of face-to-face interactions. (8)

Another side effect of technology consumption is our ability to read instead of skim (9)

Studies show that it has become more difficult to sit down an read a book because so many people

are accustomed to skimming articles on their iPad (9)

technology… there are benefits of growing up in

Children and young adults growing up today with

access to a world around them that they can get

to with a click of a button…or tap of a finger (5)

Growing up today is nothing like it once was and it never will be again and it is important to embrace technology without

becoming consumed by it.
