Shimla HistoryShimla dates back to the year 1819. Before that Shimla was under the rule of the Gurkhas. It was after the Gurkha War that the British soldiers founded a dense forest near the temple of Goddess Shyamala and gave it the name Shimla. But some historians contradict it saying that Shimla is derived from the word “Shyamalaya” meaning the blue house based on a house built by blue slate by a fakir. Shimla would not have been there if the Britishers had not discovered it. It was only in 1819, that the then Assistant Political Agent of Hill States, Lt. Ross built the first British residence- a wooden one.

St. Petersburg, History Ancient History :

St. Petersburg's history is rich and truly exciting. The city witnessed so many dramatic events that one can hardly believe that St. Petersburg is not even 300 years old. Founded in 1703 to be the most European city of Russia, it remains Russia's "Window to the West" - just like Peter the Great ment it. St. Petersburg has always welcomed foreigners and newcomers from other parts of Russia. Those people created the cosmopolitan atmosphere which made St. Petersburg so special.

Nightlife in St. PetersburgWhen the lights of downtown St. Petersburg begin to shimmer on the Gulf waters, St. Petersburg nightlife comes alive. With warm, subtropical nights and miles of gentle coastline, St. Petersburg nightlife has a romantic, beach feel. Jimmy B's on the boardwalk is an ideal nightlife spot for mingling with locals and listening to live music (every night of the week) while St. Petersburg's entertainment epicenter, Bay Walk, boasts a full floor of bars and clubs, including martini lounges and dance clubs. In downtown St. Petersburg, the jazz on Central is legendary—St Petersburg jazz clubs boast some of the best jazz in Florida. Just outside of downtown St. Petersburg, the "Trop" (officially Tropicana Field, home of the St. Petersburg's Tampa Bay Rays baseball team) hosts an active variety of St. Petersburg sports bars.

● Avrora: Avrora bills itself as an entertainment complex and certainly has grand ambitions. The complex features a bowl-shaped concert hall that can fit up to 1500 during concerts and a smaller and more intimate hall, B.B. King, which hosts smaller concerts and other events.

● Efir Club : This fashionable place makes great use of the building's unique space. The first room is occupied by a large bar area with full glass frontage to the street and space for lounging, while the second room hosts.

What to Eat in St. PetersburgDuring a recent tour of St. Petersburg, Russia’s second most populated city, I had a chance to sample many authentic Russian dishes. Here are six ‘must try’ delights along with a recommendation on where to find them.

● Borscht : Although borscht is considered a Ukrainian soup, it is associated with Russia and considered a staple by most Russians. The main ingredient, beets, gives borscht its signature reddish-purple coloring and earthy flavor. Unfortunately the rest of the ingredients vary as widely as the number of recipes passed down through generations of eastern European cooks. But typically, besides beets, borscht includes a meat-based broth, tomatoes, celery, onion, butter, carrot, and dill. Always garnished with a spoon full of sour cream, borscht is served hot or cold.

● Pelmeny : Pelmeny, or plemeni, is a meat-filled, paper-thin dumpling. Chicken broth and black pepper are a dominant taste. Garnished with dill and sour cream to add a little flavor, pelmeny offers a simple and tasty delight that first found its footing in Siberia.

● Blini : Blini, or Russian pancake, are a crepe-like favorite for any meal. The blini usually come with a filling – anything from sweet berry jams and condensed milk to mushrooms, meats and caviar. Round in form, the blini was said to symbolize the sun and the end of winter.
