Summer Camp’s

 To  all  Parents,  Students,  and  Leaders…   It is the desire of ENCOUNTER Camps to provide a positive environment of acceptance and spiritual growth for teens. Maintaining that atmosphere is a difficult assignment but one which must operate within boundaries that deal with cultural manners and Biblical truth. We want our Camp to be well-known for its positive attitude and demeanor toward teenagers. We believe that an atmosphere of Christ-like unconditional love and affirmation provides more motivation to grow and change than an atmosphere of bombastic criticism. Even so, we must recognize that for any Ministry to function, healthy parameters are important. Teenagers need structure and guidance to help them understand the expectations regarding their actions. Many teenagers deal with serious issues. When they come to camp they bring those problems with them. Our ministers and leaders are here to help guide students through these issues. In order for ENCOUNTER to run smoothly it is important for parents, ministers, and student leaders to approach discipline and guidance at camp from the same perspective. The following behavior guidelines have been developed, tested, and proven to be effective in maintaining group discipline and comprising the teachings of Scripture. We cannot and have not covered everything that may happen in these Students’ lives in this single handbook. We WILL take the necessary steps to maintain every rule and follow through with the necessary discipline.

What  to  Pack:  1.   Fantastic attitude & desire to draw near to God

2.  An outfit for “America” Day

3.   An outfit for “Star Wars” Day

4.  Color shirt/shorts/bandana/etc. for “Team” Day

5.   Linens for Bedding or sleeping bag and pillow

6.  Towels, washcloths, & hygiene items

7.   Spending money for snacks, tshirts, and cds.

8.  A light jacket (meeting rooms may be cold)

9.  A pair of closed toed tennis shoes

10.   Bible, Pen, Notepad, etc.

11.  Beach towel, and bathing suit for water events

12.   All water event participants, including swimmers, must wear a

shirt* and shorts.

a.  Ladies this means that you wear a shirt and gym shorts over your bathing suit

b.  Guys this means that you wear a shirt along with your board shorts or swim trunks.

*Dri-Fit shirts are best. Please no large size shirts. They become a hindrance to swimmers and cause fatigue.

 

       

What  NOT  to  Pack:  1.   Spaghetti straps, halter tops, or tube tops 2.   Tight clothing 3.  “Short” shorts, or skirts (stand with your arms by your side. If your

fingertips are touching skin your shorts or skirt should be longer for camp)

4.  Tobacco, drugs, alcohol, weapons, fireworks, water balloons, or skateboards.

5.   Clothing with questionable sayings, slogans, that promote alcohol, drugs, cigarettes, or any other inappropriate items

6.  Due to the wide variety of t-shirts, ALL t-shirts are subject to the discretion of adult leaders.

RULES  AND  GUIDELINES    

General  Rules  1.   Treat every person with respect, kindness, and courtesy 2.  Do not enter the cabin/room of the opposite sex, or hang around

their door. 3.   No fighting, name calling, aggressive behavior, or bad language. 4.  Only listen to Christian music 5.   Be where you are supposed to be when you are supposed to be

there.              

Dress  Every Student should dress for every activity to show modesty and push toward godliness. Therefore the following guidelines will be followed:

1.   Students will be expected to change inappropriate clothing without argument.

2.   Spandex, yoga pants and leggings are only acceptable if shorts are worn over them.

3.   Shorts and shirts must be worn at all meetings. 4.  Swim attire must fit the description above in the “What to pack”

Section.  Free  Time  Students will be permitted to spend their free time at summer camp only when:

They are in groups of no less than three (3)  Cell  Phones  Students will be allowed to carry their cell phones, unless:

1.   They are in worship, church group, or devotion time activities 2.   Their phone becomes a distraction or detriment to the group 3.   Their phone becomes the center of drama or other negative

activities…  Housing  Our Student group will stay in cabins at Camp ToknowHim. We must realize that we represent Christ everywhere we go and show respect for property and the rights of others staying in the same location.

1.   “You break it you buy it” 2.  No loud racket in your room from 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM      

 Affection  (Also  known  as  P.D.A.)  We believe that interest in showing physical affection toward the opposite sex is normal and a healthy part of maturing teenage relationships. Our adult leadership is instructed to notify students when their behavior is inappropriate or compromising. The following is always considered inappropriate:

1.   Cuddling in ANY form. (Excessive PDA) 2.   Compromising situations (Being alone) 3.  Making out (Anywhere)

 

Discipline  (“Sending  a  Teenager  Home”)  IF   AND   WHEN   A   TEENAGER   IS   SENT   HOME   THE  PARENT   WILL   BE   RESPONSIBLE   FOR   THE  TRANSPORTATION   OR   PROVIDING   COMMERCIAL  TRANSPORTATION  I.E.  THE  BUS.    

A Student may be IMMEDIATELY sent home for: 1.   Creating a dangerous action that places them or the group in

physical danger 2.   Sexual promiscuity

Parents have not assigned to church leaders the right to physically discipline teenagers. Therefore, leaders only make physical contact with a teenager in order to prevent a greater harm, such as during a fight or an attempt to harm one’s self.      

Medical  Attention  If a student has a medical emergency the parents will be notified immediately.

Parents: Please make sure that any medications and/or allergies are listed on the medical forms that have been provided.  

Authority  

Students who choose to go to ENCOUNTER Summer Camp agree to follow the instructions of adult leaders and this handbook. Teenagers must obey these guidelines and exhibit respect toward adult leaders

during the entire trip.
