Summer Abroad Community Service

1
MY COMMUNITY SERVICE EXPERIENCE My name is Alicia Whittle and I am from Atlanta, Georgia. I am currently a graduate student at Kennesaw State University. The degree I am pursuing is a Communication degree. This summer I had the opportunity to do a practicum abroad at the Zechbau Company in Frankfurt. The practicum allowed me to learn how Germans conduct business and experience a whole new culture. The biggest highlight of my study abroad opportunity, was serving the local church of Lich. During my time at the church, I got to help out the children's program by assisting in rehearsals, arts and crafts, and snack time. Also, I was able to serve the church by participating in the baptism ceremonies. Furthermore, I had the chance to serve the local refugees each Monday for a few hours. We cooked meals for them, played games, taught them German, and provided any type of service they needed. Lastly, I became friends with an Ethiopian refugee and we are now friends on Facebook.
