Play with your windows! Close the curtains during the day to help prevent heat from accumulating inside your home.

Clean your air conditioner filters at least once a season. Your air conditioner will be more efficient while providing quality air.

Raise the temperature of your air conditioner by 2 degrees to reduce your energy consumption. You’ll just feel the difference on your bill!

Use a timer to limit the use of your pool heater. You can also install a pool cover to conserve the water’s heat between the times you’re not in the pool.

Enjoy the summer and dry your laundry outside! It will smell fresh and dry so quickly. You’ll also save money on your dryer’s energy consumption.

Have a hot drink instead of lemonade to refresh your body. Drinking hot liquid makes you sweat, which lowers your body temperature and cools you off.

Cook your food outside, on the BBQ. Your house won’t get hot from the stove or oven, and you can enjoy more of summer... even while making meals. Win! Win!

Renewable natural gas: an energy source for the future.

You may already know this, but for many years now Énergir has been involved in the research and development of renewable natural gas (RNG), which could help leverage energy transition.

RNG comes from a variety of sources: food residue from brown bins, agricultural and forestry residue. Instead of being buried, these materials are a source of renewable energy which some clients already use.

A recent study by Aviseo Conseil* showed that by 2030, 2/3 of the natural gas distributed in Quebec could be replaced by renewable natural gas.

* An independent Quebec firm, Aviseo offers organisations cutting-edge consulting services in strategic and economic studies.

in your home How efficient are your appliances? Compare... and consume less.

These efficient options are available for your home, and Énergir offers grants for them.

• Condensing tankless water heater

Your home requires energy all the time for important things such as heating, air conditioning and hot water. To meet these needs, you can choose from a variety of natural gas appliances, ranging from standard models to highly efficient ones. See how energy-efficient appliances can help you reduce consumption.

Let’s take two identical houses equipped with two different heating systems. The first has a standard heater with 80% efficiency. It uses 80% of the natural gas it consumes to heat the home. There is a 20% energy loss with a standard heating system.

On the other hand, the second house has a system with 95% efficiency. It uses 95% of the natural gas it consumes to heat the home. There is minimal loss of energy in this case.

A high-efficiency heater uses less energy to heat the same area.

Would you be able to detect a natural gas leak?Natural gas is odourless. However, for your safety, a strong smelling product called mercaptan is added. The smell is similar to rotten eggs, making it easier to detect when natural gas is in the air. If you smell this odour, there may be a natural gas leak, and you need to act quickly.

1. Keep away from the leak area if you are outside. If you are in a building, get out immediately. Leave the doors and windows open when you leave.

2. Avoid flames and sparks; do not use your mobile phone or flick a light switch, as they may cause sparks. Also refrain from smoking.

3. Call 911. If this service is not available in your area, call 1-800-361-8003.

Live outside... and get the very most out of the season. It’s summertime. The weather is beautiful. It’s hot. It’s time to enjoy your back yard with friends and family. You’re going to be hungry after an afternoon in the pool! And one of the best things about outdoor summer entertaining is the BBQ!

With a natural gas BBQ you’re always ready to cook – and impress your guests. It’s powered directly by your natural gas network, so it won’t let you down halfway through cooking. Simple cooking. Life is great!

Functionality Cultivate relaxation: set up a natural gas barbecue in your yard for effortless outdoor dining.

Lighting Build a mood: Install stronger lighting for the kitchen area, and soft, warm light for the dining or lounge area.

Environment Be original: Use the different natural elements in your yard (trees, shadows and sunshine, wind corridors) to really personalise your space.

Materials Think eco: Consider using durable, weather-resistant materials that fit in with your home.

Easy guidelines to get the best out of your back yard space!
