Summer 2018 Edition of the Whale’s Tale

There have been several fabulous OUTINGS since the last Newsletter!

ROY ROBINSON RV WIT Rally and Show & Tell June 1-3, 2018

The annual gathering at Roy Robinson RV was held June 1-3, 2018. This event is a way to give back to Roy Robinson RV for their support throughout the year, by attending and participating. Five coaches from around the area arrived on Friday, June 1, 2018: three from Evergreen Winnies and two from San Juanderers. (Guidrys and Madawis) There was an area set aside for the coaches to set up just like at an Outing. That evening, we were treated to dinner and drinks at the Village Restaurant in Marysville. On Saturday morning, the hot dogs were already cooking and we enjoyed a hot dog breakfast! Many other WIT members from around the state arrived on Saturday to attend the seminars and barbecue luncheon, provided by Roy Robinson RV. There were several Chapters represented. The San Juanderers had the most members in attendance Saturday. The seminars included: Northwest Trailer Parts, Zamp Solar and PIM Bicycles. After the fabulous barbecue luncheon and delicious cake dessert, Roy Robinson generously gave out many door prizes! During the afternoon, we enjoyed visiting with everyone that came for the day and some of us enjoyed dinner together.

3

On Sunday morning, those in coaches that camped out were treated to breakfast sandwiches. How generous and appreciative is Roy Robinson RV?! As you know, Roy Robinson RV provided $2,000 cash and $500 in door prizes for Washington State WIT Rally (WSWR) this year! We brought the Thank You Board that was signed by attendees from the WSWR in May, to present to RR. We also brought them several programs from WSWR and Rally pins. They can show the programs to buyers so they can see some of the benefits of joining WIT and to generate interest that will hopefully increase our membership. David Madsen, RV Sales Manager, chatted with us prior to leaving. He was disappointed with only five coaches staying over. He would love to increase that number next year! Let’s plan on having more members join in for the weekend next June, especially after all they do for us! Additionally, I am working with Evergreen Winnies on a joint flyer to provide to Roy Robinson RV customers who purchase new or used Winnebagos. Hopefully, we can increase our membership! I will pass around the flyer at our meeting. They would like us to add some pictures that show us at Outings and events having fun. Thank you Marganna, for providing some great pictures. They have been sent in to Amy at RR and they will pick from them for additions to the flyer. When you make plans next year, please remember to include Roy Robinson WIT Rally and Show & Tell in your plans. It is typically the first weekend in June. Respectfully submitted, Nadine Guidry

San Juanderers Outing Report Sun Country Golf and RV Resort, Cle Elum, Washington

June 24 – 28, 2018 Hosted by Tim and Liz Fagen, Pete and Mitzi Kerwien

The hosts arrived early

and were set up as seven other motor homes made the final descent down the hill to the beautiful valley below.

The Sun Country crew had lush green grass waiting for us with convenient hookups. San Juanderers attending were: Tim and Liz Fagan, Pete and Mitzi

Kerwien, Bill and Debbie Evans, Mary and Jeff Everest, Ray and Marganna King, Emily Davis and her friend Clarice Wilson. We also were graced with three SOB's (Some Other Brand) Steve and Emelyn Gallego, Michael and Peggy Dixon, Don and Judi Davidson. Without a motor home, because they live in the area, San Juanderers Mark and Norma Covey joined us. They brought a wonderful cake which was quickly devoured by the group. The usual assortment of dogs attended and for the most part

behaved. There was a lack of communication between a Boston Bull dog and an English bulldog. No blood, just a lot of noise. Sunday night the chairs were gathered around for a social hour. Golf tee times were discussed and those who were still hungry after ample hors d'oeuvres went for dinner on their own. Oh did we mention there were drinks?

Monday, mother nature threw everything she had except hurricanes (although on top of the hill it felt like one.) No tornadoes, unless you are describing some of the golf swings but from the comments after the round, all had a good time and the crew donated golf balls at

strategic locations around the golf course. Monday was all you can play day at the golf course; several finished a round and went out again. The good news was no windows were broken and there were no injuries except for pride. (Your reporter had a stare-down with a rabbit at our rig and won!) Tuesday there were no planned activities. The hikers made their annual

pilgrimage to Roslyn and a group had lunch at a Mexican restaurant which gave excellent service and food. Olson meats and Cle Elum bakery and Ruby's quilt shop also made the list of “must visit.” (edit: Tuesday - there was a big BBQ - We all brought our BBQ grills, steaks & a shared dishes to the covered area - you would not believe some of the steaks…)

Wednesday, the golfers headed out determined to improve their Monday scores. That evening we gathered at the Sunset Cafe where a very efficient waitress handled us with great dexterity. Drinks arrived quickly (that’s most important, you know) the food reminded me of Thanksgiving portions when I was a young lad. Heaping amounts of food. The bill arrived promptly, and I know this is going to hurt the ones who did not attend. It was FREE PIE NIGHT! Thursday We all headed for different destinations reflecting on a great time. We have reserved 12 sites for next year, June 23rd to June 27th. Call Time Fagan (206) 399-6156 if you want to book a site.

Howard Miller Steelhead Park Outing July 8-10, 2018

What a beautiful park! Thank you, VP Mike for arranging this for us. We ended up with seven coaches in “30 Circle”. We had a big tree that provided shade for us to gather our chairs and visit. We had plenty of room for our pets to roam, on leashes, of course. Thank you, Max & Ann Archer for hosting! They brought their friends Rich and Sue Wickersham to join in with us. (They’re on their 6th motorhome, currently in a Winnebago.) Also attending with the Archers and Wickershams were the Bentons, Gallaghers, Guidrys, Kings and Normans.

The Archers planned some fun games for us: the first night following appetizers and the business meeting, we played Right, Left, Center with quarters. Our big winners were Jim Benton and Rich

Wickersham. The second night following our hot dog bash and potluck, we played Pokeno with pennies. We had several winners!

11

Ann also prepared a puzzles and riddles contest. Winning first place were the Bentons, and the two second place winners were the Wickershams and

the Gallaghers. (Edit: you’d have to see the puzzle questions to truly appreciate the winners’ outstanding effort.)

We decided that this is definitely a place we would like to return to next year!

12

Such a beautiful park! We were there just after the 4th of July so it was quiet & very calm. We kept busy exploring some of the surrounding area that included a stop at a fabulous ICE CREAM stand. Snacks, business meeting, pot luck hot dog dinner, fun games & “party favors per Ann” made this a top notch Outing. Thanks, Ann & Max, Mike & all who participated.

The following last page of the Newsletter lists our remaining 2018 Outings. The list is NOT a thing of beauty for some strange

reason. One could say “if it’s not one thing, then it’s another” ~ so that’s how this list wanted to express itself. For a much more graceful one, refer to Nadine’s June 13th email with the Outings

link. And please take note there is now a “reminder check space” for those of us who cannot remember: “Did I call the park or not?”
