The Do More guide has been dropping through your letterboxes for 7 years now!
This summer, Redbridge parks and open spaces have everything from sports, arts events, festivals, volunteering work days and regular walks for you to get involved with. For Love Parks Week specific events, watch out for LOVE PARKS WEEK as you look through the brochure.
Many of our parks and open spaces also have outdoor gym equipment or trim trails where you can exercise for free. So if you don’t want to commit to costly gym memberships, get a group of friends together and motivate each other back to fitness!
If you've been bitten by the Wimbledon bug, Redbridge tennis courts are free to use and you can get free coaching on our open day on Saturday 21 July! See page 30 for more information.
And finally, don’t forget to vote for one of our nine green flag parks in the People’s Choice Award when voting opens on 1 September.
13-20 July
But how many of you still hang on to your paper copy or are you searching for things to do online?
With more and more of our events and activities to be found online via our website and Social Media channels, what are your thoughts on Do More going green and going digital? Any comments good or bad we would really like to hear from you, please email [email protected]
2018 is the 12th Anniversary of Love Parks Week and there are lots of events taking place up and down the country to celebrate.

Walking Netball is a slowed down version of the game of netball, designed for anyone looking to exercise in a relaxed, supportive and friendly environment. Every session contains a gentle warm-up. See what previous participants have had to say:

Thousands of people have rediscovered the joys of playing football again thanks to a slowed-down version of the game, where any player caught running concedes a free kick to the opposition. Walking football aims to inspire people back into exercise as it’s played at a more leisurely pace and is kinder to the knees! It is also perfect for people who are recovering from a long term injury and want to continue to enjoy playing football.
The rules are much the same as its speedier cousin, however there are some differences. The squads are smaller (between five and seven-a-side), free kicks are indirect, kick-ins replace throws, there are no offside, the ball must be kept below head height and, of course, anything so much as a jog is prohibited.
Come and give it a try Sessions are open to all abilities. For more information call 020 8708 0955

Eastside Heritage Exhibition of Ilford Camera and Film Ilford Limited is a big name in photography, and their films and cameras are used all over the world. However their move away from Ilford in the 1980s means many people now don’t realise the town of Ilford in Redbridge is the birthplace and namesake of the company - Ilford camera and film!
Ilford Limited began life in the basement of a house in Cranbrook Road, but its success allowed them to move onto a new site in Roden Street which is today occupied by Sainsbury’s. The exhibition tells this story - and also tells the story from local people who once worked for Ilford Limited. This informative exhibition will be on display for all to learn and enjoy.
Redbridge Central Library FoyerExhibition will be showing from Wednesday 6 June until Friday 22 June

Reminiscence/ Memory Session Reminiscence, poetry, stories and more. Reminiscence Therapy can be a powerful aid to assist wellbeing by promoting use of long and short term memory. The aim is to help people to engage socially, prompt recall and share their life experiences through pictures, music, textures etc. This in turn promotes discussions which can help to validate a person’s life history and often gives carers, both personal and professional, a better understanding of the person.

Technological Advice for Visually Impaired PeopleTechnology can be a very valuable tool for learning and communication for people with various degrees of sight loss.
By using a device with appropriate software you can have access to multiple resources, for example magnification capabilities can help to access an online newspaper and text to speech software can allow a person with no sight to produce and read emails and use the internet.
Almost all smart phones have magnification and speech output so they can be used by people with low or no vision. If you are visually impaired and need help accessing and maintaining your device, Graham Page, an Access Technology Advisor at East London Vision, can assist you. He can help you decide what technology would be best for you and offer you training on how to use and maintain it. For more details, call Graham on 07779 441000 / 020 3697 6464 or visit www.eastlondonvision.org.uk

Different Pasts. Shared FutureThis year, stand with refugees and help mark 20 years of Refugee Week. To celebrate, everyone is invited to do one (or more!) of 20 Simple Acts – one for each year of Refugee Week. Simple Acts are things everyone can do to show support for refugees, find out more about refugee experiences and make new connections in their communities. Anyone can take part in Simple Acts. Find out more www.refugeeweek.org.uk/simple-acts-2
Will you stand with refugees and celebrate 20 years of Refugee Week by joining the Simple Acts movement? You could come along to a number of events we’ve planned to mark the celebration:

Tuesday 19 JuneShare a Story Reading GroupA refugee can be anybody. People have been forced to leave their homes throughout recent human history, and refugees are part of the fabric of British history and culture. Einstein was a refugee. So is Rita Ora, Isabel Allende and millions of others who are not famous but who each have something to give and a unique story to tell.
If you enjoy reading and being read to, then come along and discover the story of one or more refugees as we read aloud stories as a group, followed by some discussion. You are also welcome to bring along relevant poems to read.
