Pee Wee Soccer League This league is for children new to soccer.Participants will learn the fundamentals of soccer and how to play as ateam. The league will begin during the Summer 1 session and run throughthe end of the Summer 2 session.

Rock Monkeys A marvelous class for kids that are inquisitive about theworld of climbing. The cornerstone for an extended and riveting climbingcareer will be anchored as a result of this class. Kids will learn to climb, buildconfidence and increase self-esteem.

Stinger Soccer Learn the basics of soccer. The Y rookies philosophy isstressed... everyone plays, everyone wins.

Tiny Tigers Beginner - Parent/Child Program. Taekwondo is great fun forkids... and a great way to give kids a head start on life. W. Kim Taekwondomasters and instructors teach the positive benefits of self-discipline andconfidence, develop coordination and increase strength and flexibility.

PRESCHOOL GYMNASTICSYMCA gymnastics classes are designed to give a full workout whileimproving flexibility, coordination, balance and strength. We also work onlistening skills, following directions and social skills. Children use all of thegymnastics equipment at every level and receive exceptional instructionfrom well-trained instructors.

Gymnastics Parent/Child Open to boys and girls, ages 2-3.This is an introductory class to develop strength, flexibility, coordinationand body awareness while learning gross motor skills for gymnastics.All equipment is introduced. Gymnastics Tiny Tykes Open to boys and girls, ages 3-4. This is anintroductory class for preschool-age children ready to develop coordination,body awareness and gross motor skills while working on listening skills,social skills, and following directions. Children will use all gymnasticsequipment. Curriculum is progressive with a different gymnastics positionand concentration each week.

Gymnastics Advanced Tiny Tykes For girls, age 4, who are more advancedin skill, strength, flexibility and social skills. Must have taken a minimum offour sessions of Tiny Tykes and have an instructor recommendation to beeligible for this class.

PRESCHOOL DANCEDoes your little one love to move to the groove? Then a Y preschool danceclass is just for them. Whether your child is a living room leaper, bedroomballerina or backyard hip-hopper, our introductory dance classes exposeyour children to different techniques and ways to stay active, all whilehaving fun expressing themselves through creative movement.

Dance Lil Movers Girls aged 3-5 will have fun learning the basics of dancewith this introductory dance class. In this creative dance-based class, we'llwork on rhythms, coordination, flexibility, self-expression and confidence.We'll also teach listening skills and dance class etiquette.

PARENT/CHILD SWIM LESSONSOur parent/child swim lessons promote water enrichment andaquatic-readiness activities for children and their parents or othertrusted adults. In this program, the developmental experiences of eachchild are used to build the child's self-confidence in and out of the water.Parents learn from the instructor's example how to guide their childrenthrough positive reinforcement and appropriate praise.

There are four levels based on developmental abilities:

They are also taught general aquatic safety andpool games. Children will be taught with and without the use of variousinstructional flotation devices (IFDs). Classes maybe combined based onenrollment. Is your child just not ready to be alone for swim lessons? This isa transitional class where we wean your child away from Mom and Dad. Yourchild must be at least 3 years old at the start of the session. The next levelfrom here would be Pike.

Children are taught basic skills that are the building blocksof swimming, including water propulsion, floating, body awareness andindependence. Level 1: Pike (Ages 3-5) The first level is for beginning swimmers.Swimmers should be able to listen to instructions and follow directions.Swimmers will learn the basic paddle stroke on the front, back and sides.They will also learn kicking skills and grow comfortable with putting theirface in the water.

Level 2: Eel (Ages 3-5) Swimmers will learn to jump into the water withoutassistance and float on their front and back for 20 seconds with or withoutan IFD. Swimmers will also learn to paddle on front, back and sides for 25yards with an IFD and 15 feet without.

Level 3: Ray (Ages 3-5) Swimmers will learn to front and back float for 30seconds without an IFD; front alternating paddle with rhythmic breathingfor 25 yards with an IFD, and for 20 feet without. Swimmers will also learnfront symmetrical paddle with rhythmic breathing for 25 yards with an IFD,and for 20 feet without; do a side alternating paddle for 25 yards with anIFD and for 20 feet without; back alternating paddle for 25 yards with anIFD and for 20 feet without; and back symmetrical paddle for 25 yards withan IFD and for 20 feet without. Prerequisites: To enter this level, swimmersshould be able to jump in the water without assistance and float on theirfront and back for 20 seconds with or without an IFD. Swimmers should alsobe able to paddle on front, back and sides for 25 yards with an IFD and for15 feet without.

Level 4: Starfish (Ages 3-5) Swimmers will learn to do a standing dive,basic front crawl rotary breathing for 25 yards, basic breaststroke for 25yards, backstroke for 25 yards, elementary backstroke for 25 yards, basicsidestroke for 25 yards, and tread water for 1 minute.

PRESCHOOL/EARLY LEARNINGPreschool is an exciting time as children embark on new adventures in theworld of learning. At the Y, we regard each child as a unique individual whoneeds to be understood, guided, encouraged and appreciated. Y programsencourage children to explore their creativity through multi-sensoryexperiences and create a language-rich environment to promote and fostera love of reading. Preschool Full Day The Buehler YMCA is proud to offer a new year-round,play-based Full Day Preschool Program that provides care and educationfrom 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. Our preschool programsencourage children to explore their environment as they develop creativity,problem-solving and skills related to cognitive, physical, social andemotional growth. Students are introduced to literacy through a phonemicapproach that includes the Jolly Phonics curriculum as well as math, scienceand social studies concepts taught through hands-on activities.

Additionally, children in our Full Day Preschool Program participate inspecial activities including music, games and fitness activities in the gym,and swim lessons taught by instructors in our Aquatics Department eachweek. Trained early childhood educators undergo continual professionaldevelopment to ensure best practices are being used in the classroom.Teachers utilize the center's method of small-group instruction, and thecurriculum is based on the Illinois Early Learning Standards. Our preschoolprograms are also licensed by DCFS.

We offer Level 1, Level 2 and a pre-K classroom, as detailedbelow. Children may enroll at any time, assuming there are openingsavailable. Full Day Preschool does not operate on major holidays includingNew Year's Eve, New Year's Day, Memorial Day, the 4th of July, Labor Day,Thanksgiving Day, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and ChristmasDay. Preschool Level 1 (age 2 by June 1, 2016) T/Th and M/W/F class optionsare available. In addition to preschool class, students who are 3 years oldhave the opportunity to participate in weekly 45-minute swim lessonstaught by instructors in our Aquatics Department. Preschool staff transferstudents to this coordinating program. To be eligible for Level 1 Preschoolduring the 2016-17 school year, students' birthdays must be between9/1/13 and 6/1/14.

Preschool Level 2 (ages 3-4) In addition to preschool class, students havethe opportunity to participate in once-weekly 45-minutes swim lessonstaught by instructors in our Aquatics Department. Additionally, registrationin our lunch/extension program can extend a student's day. Preschool stafftransfer students to these coordinating programs. To be eligible for Level2 Preschool during the 2016-17 school year, students' birthdays must bebetween 9/1/12 and 8/31/13.

The extension program runs from 11:45a.m. to 2 p.m., which includes lunch from 12-1 p.m. and enrollment in anenrichment class from 1-2 p.m. Daily enrichment classes include science,social studies, cooking, math, literacy and art programs. Participantsare billed monthly with their child care bill for this extension program.Participants may choose a one-, two-, three- or five-day option.

2016 SUMMER SESSIONSPRE-K PROGRAMS

Peek-A-Boo Preschool (20 months-3 years) Your almost-preschoolerwill experience a sneak peek of what a day in preschool is like. Thisdevelopmental environment will include circle time, arts and crafts, music,snack and opportunities to socialize through play. Parent participation isencouraged but not necessary. If a child is not potty-trained, parents mustremain in the building. Children can be transferred to and from drop-in childcare for this class.

Messy Monsters (18 months-3 years) This is a fun class where you andyour toddler will join in messy, fun, creative activities. The instructor willlead all sorts of sensory experiences with paint, play-doh, goo, bubbles,shaving cream, etc. Parents are encouraged to stay and get messy with theirtoddler. Mighty Math (Ages 3-5) Come and explore the fundamentals of math!Children will do fun activities and games that will help them to learn basicnumber and math skills. So whether your child is just learning to countor can already do simple math, the class will be designed to stretch eachindividual's skills. Who knew math could be so much fun!

Silly Scientists (Ages 3-5) In this fun, interactive science class,children will explore the world of science through hands-on scienceexperiments that will be messy, exciting and educational.

Around The World (Ages 3-5) Let your child use his or her imagination andtravel around the world in 5 weeks. Your child will learn fun facts throughstories and activities while collecting fun things for their passports.

Imagination Creations (Ages 3-5) Grab your smock and get ready toget messy. Your child will blend, mix, squish, squeeze and mash togetheringredients while problem-solving and working together with others.

Ready To Read (Ages 3-5) In this class students will work on pre-readingand reading skills, including letter recognition and sound, sight words andword patterns. The Jolly Phonics curriculum is used, as well as other funactivities to help cultivate beginning reading skills and a love for reading.Activities will be differentiated according to each student's abilities.

June 17, 2016 6-8 p.m. - Summer Kickoff:Activities will include pool games, outside family games such as kickball,Frisbee, Baggo. Volleyball and inflatables in the gym.

July 15, 2016 6-8 p.m. - Outdoor Movie Night:Come join us in the field with your blanket for a fun family movie andpopcorn. In case of inclement weather we will show the movie in the FAC.

August 19, 2016 6-8 p.m. - End of Summer Party:Activities will include fun family swimming relays, Minute to Win Itgames in the gym, Family Zumba, and much more.

SPECIAL EVENTS AND PARTY RENTALSBirthday Parties All parties include a room for the party, party leader,plates, napkins and forks. The YMCA will also provide plastic tableclothsand decorations for boys' or girls' parties. All parties are welcome to bringor order their own food. All pricing is based on a 2-hour timespan. Birthdayparty options include family activity center, sports, pool, gymnastics andclimbing wall parties.

Rentals The Buehler YMCA offers room and gym rentals to membersand community members for a basic fee. All groups will need to have acertificate of insurance prior to the rental date. A deposit is needed toreserve your rental date. All room and gym rental prices are per hour.Room/gym can hold all birthday activities except for maze options.

Youth Plyometric Training Plyometrics, also known as jump training, is atraining technique designed to increase muscular power and explosiveness.Originally developed for Olympic athletes, plyometric training has becomea popular workout routine for people of all ages, including children andadolescents. This class will also include exercises with a medicine ball.

Youth Tabata The Tabata workout lasts only four minutes (for one round),but it's the longest four minutes you'll ever experience. Work out hard for20 seconds, rest for 10 seconds and complete 4 to 8 rounds.

Youth Cycle and Core An indoor, stationary, 60-minute cycle class setto music. The instructor will lead you through a series of drills for a greatcardio workout.

Youth TRX® This class is for all ages. Wondering what TRX® is? Thisprogram moves through a variety of exercises, including warm-up, upperbody, lower body and core. Engage all your muscles with a non-stop, total-body workout. Ideal for people who are new to TRX® and who want a fun,high-energy experience.

GYMNASTICSYMCA gymnastics classes are designed to give a full workout whileimproving flexibility, coordination, balance and strength. We also work onlistening skills, following directions and social skills. Children use all of thegymnastics equipment at every level and receive exceptional instructionfrom well-trained instructors.

GYMNASTICS TEAMSTwisters Team: This is an invite-only gymnastics team for little girls whopass the twisters evaluation and receive an instructor recommendation.Twisters team is made up of gymnasts who are too young for pre-team, butshow exceptional listening skills, strength, flexibility, form and coachability.Twisters train for an hour and a half, two times a week.

USAG Competitive Gymnastics Team: This team begins with our pre-teamand goes through all USAG levels. Entry to this team is by invite only. Theteam competes in USAG meets as well as YMCA league meets. USAG is thenational governing body for the sport of gymnastics in the United States,designated by the U.S. Olympic Committee and the International GymnasticsFederation. Accelerated Recreational Team: The Buehler YMCA's AcceleratedGymnastics Team is another invite-only team. Dance Ballet (Ages 6-12) Ballet is the foundation for jazz, modern andlyrical dance. This class is open to girls will help students develop poise,posture, strength, flexibility and expressivity. Contrary to common thought,ballet is not always a slow-paced class. This ballet class utilizes a variety ofmusical tempos for beautiful turns, jumps and balances. Girls should wear aleotard, tights and pink ballet shoes.

Dance Ballet/Jazz Combo (Ages 6-10) This ballet/jazz combo class is opento girls and allows dancers to explore both ballet and jazz. Students shouldwear a leotard, tights and pink ballet shoes.

Dance Hip-Hop (Ages 6-12) This class is open to both boys and girls.Hip-hop dance is usually danced to rap, R&B or electronic music. The firstdance associated with the hip-hop was break dancing, but now the genrehas developed into several styles including krumping, popping/locking, andlyrical hip-hop. Dancers will learn basic hip-hop moves and combinations.Students should wear comfortable clothes and athletic shoes.

Dance Jazz (Ages 6-12) Jazz dance is a highly expressive form of dancethat nurtures individuality while developing style and flair! This class forgirls starts off with an energetic warm-up and moves to progressions offootwork and turns across the floor, as well as various types of jumps andleaps. Class ends with a short center combination that will help to solidifythe lessons of the day. Students should wear a leotard, tights or leggings,and black jazz shoes.

Level 1: Polliwog This is the beginning level for school age children and isappropriate for anyone new to the water or with little formal instruction.Children will learn kicking skills, the basic paddle stroke on their front, backand sides, and will become comfortable putting their face in the water.

Level 2: Guppy In the Guppy class, swimmers will learn to front andback float for 1 minute; front alternating paddle 25 yards with rhythmicbreathing, with and without an IFD; front symmetrical paddle 25 yards;back symmetrical paddle 25 yards; back alternating paddle 25 yards; sidealternating paddle 25 yards; and kneeling dive. Prerequisites: To enter thislevel, children should be able to front and back float for 30 seconds with orwithout an IFD; paddle 25 yards on their front, back and side with an IFDand 15 feet without an IFD; jump in without assistance; and be comfortablein deep water.

Level 3: Minnow In the Minnow class, swimmers will learn to do a standingdive; basic front crawl rotary breathing 25 yards; basic breaststroke25 yards; backstroke 25 yards; elementary backstroke 25 yards; basicsidestroke 25 yards; and tread water for 1 minute. This 3-to-1 ratio class usesequipment appropriate for students needing extra support and assistance.Class instructors are trained adaptive aquatics instructorswith experience teaching mainstream, semi-private and private classesfor individuals with special needs.

SWIM TEAM AT THE Y!Do you love to swim? Do you love competition?Join our very successful and fun swim teams!

The Blue Marlins

Team Levels:

Turquoise Marlins This group is for all swimmers from beginner tointermediate, ages 5 to 13. Swimmers may not be quite ready to competebut want to be part of the team and work on improving their strokes.Swimmers must be able to complete two lengths of freestyle and twolengths of backstroke. Meets are not required but home meets arerecommended. Swimmers practice 2 days a week, 1 hour each practice.Swimmers should be able to complete 50 yards freestyle and 50 yardsbackstroke without stopping before joining this group.

Atlantic/Pacific Marlins This group is for intermediate swimmerswho have competitive swimming experience and knowledge of the fourcompetitive strokes. Swimmers must be able to complete the following setswithout stopping during each set: 6 x 50 Free, 6 x 50 Back, 6 x 50 Breast,6 x 50 Fly, 6 x 50 Kick, 4 x 100 IM. Swimmers in these groups practice 3days a week.

Striped Marlins This group is for intermediate to advanced swimmerswho have competitive swimming experience and have mastered the fourcompetitive strokes. Swimmers are expected to attend all home meets, 50%of away meets, and champion meets that they qualify for at the end of theseason. Swimmers must have achieved four of the six following times ina short-course, 25-yard pool. 50 Free: 35.5550, Back: 43.5550, Breast:48.5550, Fly: 44.55100, IM: 1:35.55100, Free: 1:23.05.

Black Marlins This group is for swimmers age 12 and older fromintermediate to advanced who have competitive swimming experience, canswim all four competitive strokes efficiently, have the ability to do pace andinterval training using a pace clock, and can commit to a rigorous workoutprogram including weights and dry land. Swimmers are required to attendall home meets, 50% of away meets, and all championship meets that theyqualify for at the end of the season. Swimmers must have achieved fiveof the seven following times in a short-course, 25-yard pool. 50 Free:29.55100, Back: 1:17.55100, Breast: 1:27.55100, Fly: 1:20.05100, Free:1:05.05200, IM: 2:52.05200, Free: 2:29.55. Kindergarten Extension Children attending half-day kindergarten atDistrict 15 schools including Hunting Ridge, Jane Addams, Lake Louise,Lincoln, Marion Jordan, Paddock, Pleasant Hill, Sanborn, Virginia Lake,Whiteley, Thomas Jefferson and Winston Campus can extend their schoolday to include the Kindergarten Extension program at the Buehler YMCA.Kindergarten Extension is a DCFS-licensed program taught by earlychildhood educators with a curriculum based on the Illinois Common CoreLearning Standards and includes Jolly Phonics and Guided Reading. Ourprogram also includes weekly work which focuses on number and letterrecognition, pre-reading and reading, writing and simple math. Studentsparticipate in educational, physical and social enrichment activities suchas music, yoga, CATCH, gym activities and swimming. Field trips and classparties are scheduled throughout the school year.

Students in AM Kindergarten at District 15 schools are transported to theYMCA to attend the Kindergarten Extension program until 4 p.m. Care canbe extended to 6 p.m. through enrollment in our kindergarten after schoolprogram. Students in PM District Kindergarten can be brought to the YMCAfor our AM Kindergarten Extension program that begins at 8 a.m. Beforecare starting at 6:45 a.m. is included. The students will then be transportedto their district school for their PM Kindergarten class. They can betransported back to the YMCA for after care following their District PMclass. Our programs offerthe highest-quality instruction and supervision, provided by trained andqualified staff members.

School Day Out We offer a School Day Out program for most schoolholidays, teacher institute days, and other student non-attendance days.Our School Day Out program, designed for children in grades K-8, offersa full day of entertainment including field trips, games, arts and crafts,and activities in areas of our YMCA facility like our pool, gym and FamilyAdventure Center. Care is provided from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Remember tobring a lunch, drink or water bottle, snack, swimming suit and towel eachday. MIDDLE SCHOOL/TEEN AFTER SCHOOLY Teen Leaders Club An afterschool program dedicated to helping teensgive back to their community. During Leaders Club, teens learn what it takesto be a good leader, and how to create, plan, organize, lead and evaluatedifferent service events. Our YMCA programs help teens learn how toexpress themselves, come together for a common cause and be active andinformed citizens. Leaders Club involves teens in community service projects,teambuilding activities and social groups while promoting positiveself-image and bringing out their leadership strengths. TEEN SPORTSThe Y is the starting point for many youth to learn about becoming activeand developing healthy habits they will continue throughout their lives. Youth Plyometric Training Plyometrics, also known as jump training, is atraining technique designed to increase muscular power and explosiveness.Originally developed for Olympic athletes, plyometric training has becomea popular workout routine for people of all ages, including children andadolescents. This class will also include exercises with a medicine ball.

Youth Tabata The Tabata workout lasts only four minutes (for one round),but it's the longest four minutes you'll ever experience. Work out hard for20 seconds, rest for 10 seconds and complete 4 to 8 rounds.

Youth Cycle and Core An indoor, stationary, 60-minute cycle class setto music. The instructor will lead you through a series of drills for a greatcardio workout.

Youth TRX® This class is for all ages. Wondering what TRX® is? Thisprogram moves through a variety of exercises, including warm-up, upperbody, lower body and core. Engage all your muscles with a non-stop, total-body workout. Ideal for people who are new to TRX® and who want a fun,high-energy experience.

Blue Marlins Masters

Blue Marlins Masters is a masters swim team for ages 18 and older.Swimmers do not need to have a competitive swimming background,but should have knowledge of the four competitive strokes: freestyle,breaststroke, back crawl and butterfly. Swimmers also need to becomfortable swimming in deep water and for an extended period of time.Limited to Buehler YMCA members!

ADULT WATER CLASSESFluid Running Fluid Running is a deep water running class thatprovides all the benefits of running on land and more without any impact.The benefits include burning up to 40% more calories than running on land.Builds muscular strength and endurance by working legs, core and arms.There is zero impact, so runners can participate even with many injuries.You don't have to be a runner or an athlete to participate. Floatationbelts are provided.

Adult Water Fitness Lap pool 3' to 10'. Must be able to swim 25 yards andtread water. This class is medium intensity. Moves from shallow to deep.

Deep Water Fitness Lap pool 10'. Must be able to swim 25 yards and treadwater to attend.

Evening Water Fitness Family pool 4' to 4'6". No swimming skills required.You pick your intensity. Good for beginners to advanced.

Prenatal/Postpartum Family pool 4' to 4'6". Medium intensity. Start assoon as you find out you're expecting and continue after the baby is born.

YMCA Arthritis Family pool 4' to 4'6". No swimming skills required.Low-intensity class, good for injury recovery.
