• You may have classes in the morning, in the afternoon, or both.
• International Gateways classes will be held in various locations across the SJSU Campus. Please look at the map on the next slide for the classroom locations. You also received a paper map when you checked in to our office.

GRADES AND ATTENDANCEGrades and attendance are very important in our academic programs.
F-1 Student Visa status –
Mandatory attendance to all classes.
That means you must attend all your classes, both your core classes and elective classes!

You will FAIL the class!
If you receive an “F” in any core course or elective course – you will not receive an “International Gateways Certificate of Completion” and you will be placed on Probation at the end of the term.

• Electives are the classes you choose in addition to your core classes.
• You will choose TWO (2) elective classes.
• Each elective class meets one time per week.

•Look for the Electives sign-up instructions on the first page of the Moodle.
•Follow the steps from the instructions as you sign-up.

ELECTIVES CHOICES•If you DO NOT choose your electives by the deadline (Tuesday, June 10, at 10:00pm), your electives will be assigned by the academics department
•If your electives are assigned to you, you may not be able to change your elective schedule.
•Choose your electives BEFORE the deadline to make sure you get the electives that you want.

• Many of your advisors are also teachers, so you will see them in the Gateways classrooms.
• However, if you need to discuss something with them related to advising, you should view the Advising page on the Gateways website for their contact information.

Instructions for activating your account will be given out during the orientation today. You can also pick one up any time at the Gateways Office.

COMMON QUESTIONS“When will my classes begin?”
All Core classes will begin on Monday, June 9th. When you view your schedule online, check the times your classes will be meeting.
Elective classes will begin the week of June 16th.
Check your schedule carefully for your class room numbers. Some classes will be on different sides of the campus.

COMMON QUESTIONS“Can I change my level?”
The teachers and coordinators work very hard to make sure you are placed in the correct level and classes so that you are able to learn and grow as an English learner.
After a few class sessions, if you have questions about your class level, ask your teachers what they recommend.

“Where can I buy my textbooks?”Spartan Bookstore (in the new Student Union building)
You will find out where the bookstore is during the Campus Tour.
You should be able to purchase your books next week.
