Greetings from the...

New Lenox Community Park District!

Greetings from the New Lenox Community Park District! We all should be grateful that this past

winter was not nearly as bad as was previously forecasted.

The mild winter has given your Parks Maintenance Department extra time to focus on getting all

the machinery and equipment in tip-top shape in order to maintain and improve your 30+ parks.

Speaking of parks, the redevelopment of Countryview/Royal Meadows Park is right on schedule.

The cost of this redevelopment ($744,000) is being made possible with a 50% funding grant from

the Illinois Department of Natural Resources OSLAD Program. As I have stated before, without

“outside” sources of revenue such as OSLAD grants, the development of new and redevelopment

of existing parks would be financially impossible. So a great big “Thank You” to your park staff

who prepares the grant application for submission, and to our local elected representatives who

provide their support for our grant efforts down in Springfield.

To further highlight our parks, I want to stress that your Parks Department is diligently enforcing

our S.T.O.P (Stop Trashing Our Parks) program. Your parks cost an extraordinary amount of

money to build and maintain. We cannot afford to tolerate vandalism at your parks. Anyone

caught doing so will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. All residents are encouraged

to contact the New Lenox Police Department at 815.485.2500 to report any illegal or suspicious

behavior they witness at any of the parks. All individuals can report these activities anonymously.

Hopefully, this will be the last time I have to mention this negative subject.

On a brighter note, what’s new with your Recreation Department? Aside from the numerous

programs and events that they provide every summer, this summer they will offer a new

“combined” day camp and summer adventure club program. Our new “Camp Wewannago” will

provide a safe, structured and fun environment for children in 1st through 7th grade. This program

provides various activities and games, while also treating your child to new field trips every Friday!

To accommodate working parents, we offer “Early Risers” before camp and “Night Owls” after

camp programs. This will allow for your child to be cared for before and after Camp Wewannago.

Full details are available for these programs within the Camp Section of this catalog.

Lastly, I must mention our annual Proud American Days festival. This year’s festival will be held

Thursday, July 26th through Sunday, July 29th. This year we will again feature six bands over the

four days. When you consider the music, food, carnival rides, and various events and activities

for everyone in the family; it’s no wonder that your Park District’s “Proud American Days” is one

summer activity that you do not want to miss. Please mark your calendars and save the date!

As a final point, please take a moment to look through this catalog to see what programs you and

your family would like to sign up for. You’ll be glad you did!

Be Healthy and Stay Active!

Early Childhood Program Requirements• Children must be the correct age by 9/1/12, unless otherwise specified. In order to provide your child with the best possible recreational and/or learning experience, all of our programs are planned according to the ages listed in our brochure.

• Classes are for child attending only, except for classes with an adult. Parents should not remain in the classroom or gymnasium after dropping off their child. This is in the child’s best interest, as continual interruptions tend to affect participant’s attention span and inhibit the establishment of peer relationships.

• All children must be potty-trained, unless they are attending a class where an adult stays with them or otherwise stated in the class description. Diapers are not permitted in independent classes unless stated in the class description.

• Please do not bring food to any class, unless previously arranged.

• For your children’s safety, all children enrolled in preschool- age programs must be picked up from the specific classroom or program site by their parents or designated guardian. No child will be released from the classroom to anyone other than these individuals.

• A mandatory sign-in and sign-out procedure for all participants is required for all Park District Programs.

Kiddie Kampus 2012-2013 Ages 3-4 (as of 9/1/12)Open Registration began on March 24, 2012What does Kiddie Kampus offer its participants? Children learn many things before going to kindergarten. The New Lenox Community Park District offers preschool classes designed to develop social, emotional and physical skills to ensure school readiness. A child’s separation from parents and involvement with a non-family member is one of many major steps towards his/her development. Kiddie Kampus provides a safe and supportive environment for your child’s first school experience while increasing his/her self-esteem and confidence through age appropriate instruction. Covered during the year are color, shape and number recognition, an introduction to number concepts and letter recognition. Your child’s quest for learning will be nurtured through creative play, building friendships, working individually and cooperating as part of a group. These activities promote patience, sharing and the awareness that there is a whole world of people surrounding and supporting them. Songs, stories, activities and games are used for reinforcement and fun.

What requirements are necessary for Kiddie Kampus registration?1. A copy of your child’s birth certificate MUST be provided at registration. A child must be four (three for the 3 year old program), on or before Sept. 1, 2012 and must be able to handle bathroom hygiene independently (potty trained, no diapers). It is very helpful if the child is able to zip/button independently.2. A $50.00 non-refundable registration fee, $10.00 T-shirt fee and first month’s tuition will be collected on the day you register your child.3. A voter’s card or tax bill is required at registration for verification of residency.

S.T.O.P. stands for Stop Trashing Our Parks. This beaver character is designed to increase awareness of a community effort to deter park vandalism. This program offers cash rewards for any information provided which leads to the apprehension of park vandals. Any individuals providing information are not required to identify themselves. It is our hope that kids of all ages can relate to this “friendly mascot” and understand that he is trying to protect the parks. Our park district now offers an introduction to this program which can be presented to schools and civic groups.

What is the S.T.O.P. PROGRAM?
