Ok so this week see’s the release of Avengers Assemble so in celebrat ion here is my preview of the summer of 2012

SUMMER 2012 THE BLOCKBUSTER

SUMMER

Page 2: Summer 2012 The Blockbuster Summer

Release Date: 26 th AprilDirector: Josh WhedonThis has been building for quite sometime as Marvels Avengers meet. There's not doubting all of the preceding fi lms have been fun but can this live up to the hype? A great cast and the man who brought us Buffy the Vampire Slayer suggest it can. It can defiantly said that Avengers Assemble will face the Dark Knight Rises for king of the Superhero's.

AVENGERS ASSEMBLE

Page 3: Summer 2012 The Blockbuster Summer

Release Date: 2nd MayDirectors: John Hurwitz and Hayden SchlossbergNo doubt as usual this summer will be dominated by sequels but comedy seems to have taken a back foot so maybe a return to THE teen franchise may help the genre continue its success. The biggest indicator that the fi lm could be a success is the sign that every cast member is back. There may even be some teary moments for those of us who grew up with the characters.

AMERICAN REUNION

Page 4: Summer 2012 The Blockbuster Summer

Release Date: 25 th MayDirector: Barry SonnenfeldAnother long awaited sequel, despite the let down of Men In Black II, from the trailers all seems as it was in the Men In Black Universe and it will be nice to see Will Smith back in one of the roles that made his fi lm career. It also must be said that by the looks of it Josh Brolin makes a jolly good Tommy Lee Jones. Can this be the sequel the fi rst fi lm deserves?

MEN IN BLACK III

Page 5: Summer 2012 The Blockbuster Summer

Release Date: 1st JuneDirectors: Ridley ScottThe excitement surrounding the release of Prometheus is the fact the fi lm is still shrouded in mystery. All the elements add up great cast, a superb trailer and most of all the fact this could be in the Alien universe. Of course like many of the fi lms on this list it could suff er from been over hyped but by the looks of it this could be the adult hit of the summer.

PROMETHEUS

Page 6: Summer 2012 The Blockbuster Summer

Release Date: 22nd JuneDirector: Nicholas StollerThe latest from fi lm from the director of Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Get Him To The Greek there was always going to be the hope that this will be the summers big comedy hit. It does have Jason Segal who very rarely appears in bad comedy so the question is can it be as bit as the duos previous work or could it even reach the level of Hangover and Bridesmaids? Who knows!

THE 5 YEAR ENGAGEMENT

Page 7: Summer 2012 The Blockbuster Summer

Release Date: 4 th JulyDirectors: Marc WebbDid Spider-Man really need to be rebooted? Most of me says no but when you look at the information there's signs that it could actually better the original. Yeah we’ve seen the story before but Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are two of the rising stars of Hollywood. Also Marc Webb’s debut 500 Days of Summer rocked so lets hope he can follow it up with a superior to the original reboot.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN

Page 8: Summer 2012 The Blockbuster Summer

Release Date: 13nd JulyDirectors: Steve Martino and Mike ThurmeierIce Age is the animated series of the generation that wasn’t Shrek but there's still a degree of excitement for the 4 th fi lm especially when the 3 rd was better then its rival in the Shrek series. There's great additions to the voice cast as well with Nick Frost and Glee’s Heather Morris coming aboard. And if they don’t live up there's still Scrat to keep us entertained.

ICE AGE CONTINENTAL DRIFT

Page 9: Summer 2012 The Blockbuster Summer

Release Date: 20 th JulyDirectors: Christopher NolanWhat more can be said about the most talked about movie of the summer. Expectations are ridiculously high for Nolan and Bale’s bow out but if anyone can pull it off it’s the people involved in this fi lm. Superior sequels are rather never mind sequels superior to both the original and the better sequel. Can they deliver? Everyone seems to think so either way its going to make big bucks!!

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

Page 10: Summer 2012 The Blockbuster Summer

Release Date: 17 th AugustDirectors: Simon WestThe great blockbusters slow down in August but for action fans there's always the sequel to the Expendables adeptly titled The Expendables 2. Don’t expect too much plot but do expect action, action and lots of swearing, hang on wait scratch that last one. So it’s probably going to be a 12 here but no doubt the all star cast will kick some arse.

THE EXPENDABLES 2

Page 11: Summer 2012 The Blockbuster Summer

Release Date: 21 s t September (US)Directors: Mark TonderaiSo there's no UK release date yet but from the trailer it looks like this could be the summers horror hit, especially after the relative success of Cabin in the Woods. There is one reason I’m excited for the fi lm and that the fact Jennifer Lawrence is the star, have I ever mentioned I’m in love with her? Ok so I’m not going to go on about this fi lm like the Hunger Games but I will defiantly be going to see this!

HOUSE AT THE END OF THE STREET

Page 12: Summer 2012 The Blockbuster Summer

Release Date: 14 th DecemberDirectors: Peter JacksonOk so it’s not strictly speaking a summer fi lm but how can you mention upcoming 2012 fi lms without it. Lord of the Rings introduced a whole generation to the magic of cinema and hopefully so will the prequel as well as keeping the devoted fans happy. Can you really believe it was 11 years ago that Frodo and Sam started their adventure? Lets hope Middle Earth hasn’t changed.
